I have nothing personally against Brett Favre. He is not my personal favorite QB--I put him ahead of Joe Montana on my "Greatest QB" list...but I don't particularly like either QB.

What has me nauseated today...is ESPN has become "THE BRETT FAVRE NETWORK" today...:weeping: Yes, I know some of you will say "what's new about that!" but c'mon....ESPN was begging for him to retire 2-3 years ago...now they are acting "shocked, shocked" that he actually did it and THAT MEAN GUY DIDN'T GIVE US THE HEAD'S UP:mad:

ESPN can be a vicious, petty network when they feel the sporting world and the superstars within it don't "pay Daddy his due" so to speak...

I clicked on the tube and already the "reporting and thoughts" by it's on-air talent consist of speculating: "It looks like No Moss, No More" or "I doubt he'll really retire. He'll be back in time for Fall Camp"...:1orglaugh

Yikes...I guess there have been so many phony retirements lately (Keyshawn is begging teams to get back into the league)...I guess ESPN doesn't really ever believe an athlete decides to retire on their own volition...

Stay away from ESPN today--unless your are a Brett Favre fan. Someone quick check to see if John Madden is walking to any large bridges somewhere...how will HE get along without his Brett Fahvray!?

Thus ends the long, drawn-out era of "Is Brett Farve Going To Retire?" speculation. I like Farve, think he is deservedly a Hall of Famer, but the last few seasons have been arduous for the Packers.

What's the over/under on how long this retirement sticks*?

I am giving a 76.5% chance that this retirement does in fact stick.

I think Aaron Rodgers will do well. He looked good when he came in for Farve during the 2nd half of the game against Dallas in November.

One half of play is NOT a good measure of how good a quarterback will be in th NFL. Do you remember Ryan Leaf?

I think this will be one of the worst drafts in modern times. No single player will matter much...oh sure...Glen Dorsey might be a Pro Bowler...but sorry..everyone else Matt Ryan...McFadden...even my Trojans that have been drafted thus far..all have the "feel" of starters...but not spectacular players.:dunno:

I think Rashan Mendenhall--the RB out of Illinois taken by the Steelers will be the Rookie of the Year.

McFadden is now a guaranteed massive bust. The Raiders...good grief. He'll be released in 2 years...

The players I like--Limas Sweed--WR of Texas. Interesting to see where he goes. I think he could be the steal of the draft. I like Antoine Cason--selected by the Chargers. I also think the giant QB taken by Baltimore...Joe Sacco..is worth watching. Is he just a big statue? Can he handle the speed of the NFL? Delware is a podunk program...and he's going to one of the worst offenses in recent memory....

Overall...I think the trades made this a memorable draft...but I don't see any "HOLY SHIT" Hall of Famers in this one...:dunno:

You know there aren't any real standout when teams start reaching for players, which has happen a few times already and we're just starting the 2nd round

^^^
Exactly. This entire draft process is strange and doesn't merit 1/3 the ESPN hype. We simply don't know how any players will perform until they play 2 seasons..

I wish Mel Kiper would "revisit" drafts every 2 years so we could see what he originally thought of these players and what actually happened once they played games....

Mel Kiper has about as much football and front office experience as I do. Who's to say I, or anyone working in a QuikiLube, couldn't do exactly the same thing that Mel Kiper does? (Which is basically watch tape, make decision, and then hype those decisions until they are taken as "facts" by the masses...)

I'd have more respect for Mel Kiper if he had the stones to do "draft revisits" to review his predictions...

Why hasn't a single team offered to make him a GM? I think Mel likes the TV time and the fame more then actually helping a team or caring about any of these players...

This draft class doesn’t have a big wow factor, but when you think of a lot of the great players throughout the years a large chunk of them were only above average or good in college. A lot of great college players have flamed out in the NFL also. Remember how a couple of years ago Reggie Bush was a once in a generation player and people were saying he was the next coming of Barry Sanders or at worse a Brian Westbrook type player. How's that turning out? I wouldn't write off all of the players this year to be nothing more than an average NFL starter just yet. A lot of the good front offices are the ones that can consistently pick up good usable parts in the middle and late part of the draft like New England and Pittsburgh. Even the team I like, the Bears, have been ok with drafting in the later rounds. Their problem is they can never choose a decent first round pick to save their lives.

thats because this was a heavy draft on O-line and D-Lineman
they dont exactly get all the glory....so they arent the "HOLY SHIT" hall of famers you're looking for

as for mcfadden....once he put the raiders hat on....his career was over
Felix Jones will be a good back, especially if barber leaves after this season
Mendenhall is a good complement to fast willie
Johnathan Stewart will be a very good back, provided he stays healthy
this was a weak QB and WR draft

and btw its Joe Flacco....and he was recruited and went to Pitt for a year, then transferred
he'll be better than people expect

My opinion is that Matt Ryan and will not be as great as the experts claim.I really don't get why they are riding his jock so hard. His TD to INT ratio is not very impressive and not NFL caliber. He's might turn out to be an Alex Smith like QB,lot of hype and no production, although he does have a better team around him.

As for Rashad Mendenhall...Overrated.He's way too small at 6 ft. 190 lbs. to ever be a #1 starter on any pro team. He'll be a good second back or maybe even a punt and/or kick off returner, but he got lucky that the RB positions were thin this year because there really isn't any reason he should have went in the first round.

If I actually gave a shit,I would feel sorry for Mcfadden going to the Raiders. If he went to any other team he would have an awesome rookie season, and he still might, but Oakland is where careers die.I wonder if any teams tried to trade up for Oakland's pick to try to get him.Seattle could use him now that they cut the oft injured Shawn Alexander.

What might be the steal of the draft as of right now might be the Vikings getting John David Booty in the 5th round.I can't believe he dropped that low.

I love my Cowboys but when it comes drafting RBs they have problems.A couple years ago, they had to choose between Julius Jones and Stephen Jackson and what did they do?Now they take Felix Jones over Rashad Mendenhall.I do think that Felix will compliment Marion Barber better but I just think that Rashard will be a better player.I guess we'll have to just wait and see.

Have to give my hats off to the Steelers. THey have pwned this draft, imo. Loved every pick. Limas Sweed went there! Mendenhall is fast and looks like a solid RB. He's not exactly the next "Bus" but I think he'll do great for them.

I agree about Matt Ryan. He looks like a solid backup...but not a franchise QB. He's going to get pounded in Atlanta.

The interesting QB battle is going to be in Green Bay. Brian Brohm might actually beat out Aaron Rodgers.

As a Trojan homer...I hope JDBooty proves to be a steal...but...he's kind of small. He has a ton of passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. He also couldn't hit the long ball. He could complete short and medium passes with great accuracy though...

The Trojan that might get an early shot at domination...Keith Rivers in Cincy. They need him and he could be the next Lofa Tatupu.

I'm not giving up on Reggie Bush yet. I think Matt Leinart is in deeper shit actually and if he doesn't step up...I see the Cards getting rid of him. Reggie just needs to settle down and not try to make 50 yard gains out of every play. Sometimes you gotta take a 5yd play and just run back to the huddle.

I will be watching the Saints and hoping he becomes the jaw-dropping megastud I think he still is.

Mario Williams has proven worthy of being the #1 pick. How many sacks will he have this season? 15? 20?

sometimes its not about the best player, its about the right player
you dont want to have 2 power backs in barber and mendenhall, take a power back and speed back with Felix and barber.....its a good change of pace

rashARD mendenhall, like felix jones, is a good complement to willie parker
the NFL is becoming a 2-back league, meaning you need to be a number 1 back to be good.....marion barber made the pro bowl and he didnt even start

the raiders have a plethera of backs, i would traded the pick for more picks later, as they need to plug up other holes until they should START worrying about runningbacks

and Booty does have an opportunity to start.....i just dont think highly of tavaris jackson

I'm really not sure about Tavaris Jackson either.I'm kinda riding the fence on him. This year is gonna be a real test for him. He'll either flourish or flounder with the pressure of his backups ready to come in and take his spot.

Mendenhall a power back?:wtf:
Unless the stats I saw were wrong,6 ft. 190 lbs. ain't a power back.

I'm of the belief that unless a running back has huge star potential written all over him or if your team has an absolutely desperate for one that you shouldn't pick one in the first round. At least I would wait until very late in the first. They are too fungible, get hurt too easily, and there are a ton of mediocre ones that are cheap every year that you can get.

well mcfadden isn't the savoir al davis wants but he and justin vargas playing together might give jamarcus the time he needs to develop. john booty went to the best possible team he has no pressure to win the job and the offense and defense are solid to spectacular, adding jared allen to that line is so good.mendhall and sweed make the steelers nore interesting. Dallas is hopping that someone will deal them a disgruntled wr. matt ryan has 2 yrs to prove himself because if he sucks when vick is released there is going to be alot of pressure to keep vick in atlanta. kansas city might have had the best draft 3-5 of there players are going to start kc's record won't show that this year but next year watch out. the titians must hate vince young no help at wideout for a second straight year crumpler will help if his knee is sound
