NFL '19 Season Thread

Hmmm. Not very much of an upgrade there in terms of talent surrounding. And unless he really shines Miami will probably be looking to pick a QB in the 2020 draft.

Well we'll see. It could have been a real steal or maybe they just ended up renting him for a year.

Arizona CB Patrick Peterson is reportedly suspended for the first eight games of the season due to violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy.

Today marks the halfway point in the offseason. It has been 107 days since the Super Bowl and there are 107 more days until the start of the regular season.

And Dez Bryant is still waiting for the phone to ring :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

"... wait, 21 million dollars?!?! Man, I thought you said doll hairs! So, like, yeah... can we still do that deal?"

Legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr has died. He won 5 NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowls as well being named MVP of both games (The NFL Championship games played in 1967, 68, 69 and 70 is what we today would call the NFC Championship. The first four Super Bowls were played between the NFL and AFL Champions respectively. Just wanted to avoid confusion). He was a member of the 1960s All-Decade Team and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.

99 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor Jason Taylor, Defensive End for the Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins and New York Jets. Taylor finished his illustrious career with 139.5 sacks, 8 interceptions, 47 forced fumbles and 9 touchdowns. He was a three-time First-team All-Pro, NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 and was selected to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017, his first year of eligibility.

Carson Wentz has signed a large extension.

Other interesting news, next year could see some history made in terms of NFL teams finishing with the best and worst record in a given decade. Unless the Patriots finish 2-14 (one can only hope), they will complete the 2010s with the best record in NFL history for a particular team in a given decade, supplanting the 1970s Cowboys. Conversely, if Cleveland wins 5 or fewer games, they will gain the ignominious honor of the worst record in a given decade which is currently held by the 2000s Detroit Lions.

88 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor Alan Page, Defensive Tackle for the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. Page was a dominant force as the leader of Minnesota's vaunted Purple People Eaters defense that terrorized offenses in the 1970s. He finished his career with (unofficial) 148.5 sacks, two interceptions, three safeties and two touchdowns. He was a six-time First team All-Pro and was NFL Defensive Player of the Year for 1971 and 1973. Alan Page was the first defensive player to win the NFL MVP award in 1971 and is one of only two defenders to have done so. Page was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988.

77 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor Willie Roaf, Offensive Tackle for the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs. Roaf was a six time First team All-Pro and was elected to the NFL's All Decade Team for both the 1990s and 2000s. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

Ray-Nitschke.jpg

66 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor Ray Nitschke, linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. Nitshcke was the anchor on defense for the Packers' dynasty of the 1960s which won five NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowls. He was a two-time All-Pro and was selected to both the 1960s All-Decade Team and the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. Nitschke was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978.

Seau.jpg

55 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor Junior Seau, linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. A dominant force on the defensive side of the ball, Junior Seau finished his career with 1,849 tackles, 56.5 sacks, 18 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles. Seau was an eight time First-team All-Pro, was named Defensive Player of the Year (1992), NFL Man of the Year (1994) and was elected to the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

RIP, Seau.

In unrelated Charger news: I support you, Melvin Gordon. You deserve better than the 5th year salary you have coming, and the Chargers are foolish to mess with the chemistry of what they have, their last best shot, with Rivers helming.

Riggins.jpg

44 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor John Riggins, running back for the New York Jets and Washington Redskins. Known for his powerful running style, Riggins holds the record for rushing touchdowns in a single season (1982) at 24 and was named MVP of Super Bowl XVII. He was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year (1978) and was elected to the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team. John Riggins was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992.

HTTR! Riggo!

In an unrelated development, the Detroit Lions have cut Theo "Fantasy Football Dual Threat Vulture" Riddick, to make room for another NFC North free agent incoming, former Packer D lineman Mike Daniels, to A Rod's chagrin. And because his nickname sucks.

A.J. Green better get his alligator arms bubble-wrapped until the season starts. Take that free advice the exploded NY Giant receiver corps would give you - whoa, Nelly!

NFC East DBs are all going to look a touch better than they might probably should, owing to the fact that Eli and the "Nice Kid, But Really?" are going to be throwing to :anonymous

Ka-ching! NO WR1 Michael Thomas signs a 5-year, $100 million dollar contract. Highest average annual salary for a non-QB offensive player EVAH!

Tony-Dorsett.jpg

33 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor Tony Dorsett, running back for the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. Dorsett was drafted second overall by the Dallas Cowboys and would win Rookie of the Year for 1977. He finished his career with 12,739 rushing yards, 77 touchdowns and was instrumental on the Cowboys' team that won Super Bowl XII. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994.
