Looks like Nebraska and Notre Dame are talking seriously about accepting B10 offers to join.

I hate the way these expansions are looking...why raid one conference for it's teams, traditional powerhouses and it's long standing rivalries??

Texas has been trying to get to the B10 for sometime apparently. Why??? The nearest school is over 800 miles away...

Sometimes when it's about dollars things don't make sense. Notre Dame would make the most sense but they would probably destroy their rivalries with programs like USC, Boston College and Stanford in so doing.

Today is supposed to be D-Day for USC. The NCAA is supposed to unleash ~HELL~ in terms of suspensions, fines, scholie reductions, vacated NCs, Reggie's Heisman, etc.

I think we all know why PC bailed to Seattle. He didn't want to coach at SC with the stigma of running a dirty program. Well, considering how many former SC players are being caught with various drugs now (my count is 5?) I'm guessing the dirt within the program ran way deeper than many thought.

Perhaps give the John Wooden situation at the moment, maybe SC will be sparred its day of reckoning one more week?

OUCH!!!

USC received a two-year bowl ban from the NCAA on Wednesday for infractions regarding former tailback Reggie Bush, according to a source within the university.

The university also faced a minimum 20-scholarship reduction and will need to forfeit games from 2004-05, the source said, but he would not elaborate on the number of games. The NCAA is expected to announce its findings today.

The university is expected to appeal the ruling and attempt to reduce the penalty to at least a one-year bowl ban.

"We got killed," said the source who saw the report but wished to not be identified. "There's no way we won't appeal this decision. One year would be hard to take, but two years?"

A source close to the situation said USC coach Lane Kiffin was livid with the decision, which could cripple his program from a recruiting perspective. USC has received seven commitments from the Class of 2011 in football, but none are binding.

The NCAA didn't add further penalties to the men's basketball program, which skipped postseason play this past season as part of its self-imposed penalties regarding former star O.J. Mayo.

USC spokesperson James Grant said Wednesday that reports the school would hold a news conference today to address the charges were erroneous, but that was the least of the concerns within the athletic department Wednesday night.

The two-year bowl ban is the worst penalty within the Pacific-10 Conference since

Washington received a similar penalty in 1993-94.

Well i was reading about Nebraska over on ESPN and they where saying that Texas was going to try and save the big 12 first before deciding to move to a different conference. wouldn't be funny if Notre Dame said no to the Big 10 and said yes to the Big12.
by the way this is all about money tradition means nothing nowadays

I have not had a chance to post here in a while due to long hours at work, but i have noticed the PAC-10 has fired the first shot in the rise of the Mega Conference anyway I was just wondering why the SEC has been very quiet about this I'm looking for them too make a move I have heard that they want Texas A&M :dunno:Go figure.I don't see it just what I heard they won't split them from Texas I don't think.

Yeah, it is a little weird for the SEC to be very quite about all the expansion rumors.

I expect very soon Florida State and Miami become rumored to join the SEC. I'm also hearing rumors about the SEC interest in A&M, but I doubt it happens. A&M isn't going anywhere without Texas, and supposedly, Texas looks down on the SEC because of their low academics.

I think Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will also be rumored to join the SEC.

That would seem pretty bizarre but the sticking point for the Big Ten is it only admits schools to it's conference that are Assoc. of American Universities members...of which there are only about 60 or so schools. Nebraska is one...Notre Dame is not. The talks with ND have almost always centered around that and the perceived financial and traditional stake ND has in remaining independent. ND could join the Big Ten if they wanted....But since AAU membership is by invitation only ND wants AAU membership then to decide if they will join but founding members in the Big Ten (Michigan and Wisconsin) will be against their membership without assurances they would join the conference.

It would seem unlikely ND would join the Big XII

Ironically enough Texas being the program to try and save the Big XII. Being an AAU member they first tried to join the Big Ten in the 90's but were turned down because of the distance.

The Big Ten and Pac 10 are attractive to programs like Nebraska and Texas because in the case of the Big Ten all of their members are AAU and most of the Pac 10s members are.

That said...from a pure tradition and rivalry standpoint it's sad to see some of the ways expansion could shake out.

Hey! Let's just put every college football team's name in a hat, shake it up, then create about...maybe...six conferences!!

Wait, wait wait. You wouldn't align them according to geography, would you? 'Cause that would make sense.

There's no sense in football!

I'm so sad for USC.

Wait, I don't give a fuck. Can't wait til UCLA passes them up.

And the Pac-10 getting Colorado isn't exactly groundbreaking. They're now 10th best in an 11 school conference. They should try to get Texas Tech (which is just as westward in Lubbock as CU) is, and try to use that as leverage to woo Texas. Likewise, the SEC should make a play for Texas A&M using the same strategy.
