The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
It's not fair. But let's not forget that the BCS is a joke to begin with. Hey, Illinois did knock off two top 5 teams this year. :2 cents:

Heeeeell yeeeeeeeah!!!

Let's not forget that Illinois was also the only team to beat the so-called #1 team in the country.

USC isn't all they're cracked up to be. They lost to fucking STANFORD for God's sake. I believe that Illinois has a good shot to beat them, fair and square. I just hope they're ready for a heavy dosage of JUICE!!!

Oh, I was just messing around man. Haters is just my theme for the evening.

I can see why some would feel cheated by Illinois moving into OSU's deserved Rose Bowl spot. Especially Mizzou.

Just like Ohio State benefited from the Big Ten not playing a conference championship, (and all the teams ahead of them losing in their conference championships), so does Illinois.

Illinois and Juice Williams can be a dangerous team; I was soooooooo mad when they went that 5 game winning streak, get ranked...then choke against Iowa! I thought that they finally got over the bump but they faltered...Right now, they are almost as hot as Georgia...

I might be talking Myself into liking the match-up against USC!

For everyone:
In the other bowls, what are your favorite match-ups? Who will win? Who will lose? :crying:

Coach Zook and the Illini offense will be fun to watch.

Correct me if I'm wrong because NCAA football isn't really my thing like other stuff but isn't Zook the one that always recruits well but can't seem to manage the actual game well to save his life? Or am I thinking of somebody else?

Missouri got hosed. #6 in the BCS rankings, Kansas at #8 and KANSAS gets the second Big 12 BCS berth ! Mizzou even finished ahead of Kansas in the AP, coaches, and Harris polls. And 2 teams that Missouri beat (kansas and illinois(who finished 13th in every poll :wtf: ) make BCS games.:thefinger

Should have made the Orange Bowl vs. Va.Tech or the Sugar vs. Georgia(who the hell did Hawaii play this year?) or even the Rose Bowl vs. USC (if they hadn't been so hell-bent on a Pac-10 vs. Big 10 matchup .... )

I don't even want talk about it right now. I had to vent. :scream:

this system is bullshit
please don't ask me why, you know why

agreed

Chief Illiniwek says, to Missouri, Kansas, and those pansy native american activists on the west coast that got him banned, "KISS MY ASS! I'm going to the Rose Bowl baby!"

You know the saying, what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger? Well that Iowa game made Juice Williams into superman against Ohio State!

Further proof that this is a wacky season!

About other Bowls:

Just how many teams are going into a bowl with either coaches that are stepping down or fired? Or have 'backed into' the game?

Michigan is looking for a new coach as Coach Carr leaves the Wolverines after their game against Florida in Capital One Bowl. Not exactly the easy way out.

Arkansas is also looking for a coach, and the Razorbacks play Missouri in the Cotton Bowl. Its a sordid end to a sordid saga, but great timing? No.

UCLA fired their coach, and the Bruins will play a rematch against BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl. Good scheduling there, guys.

Southern Miss is looking for a new head coach, and the Golden Eagles play Cincinnati in the Papajohns Bowl. Why did they fire a proven winner?

Oregon is up against former poll darling South Florida in the Sun Bowl, and the Ducks are have lost the last 3 games, and I fully expect them to lose this game.

Purdue lost their final 3 games but the Boilermakers still made the Motor City Bowl against Central Michigan.

Not that many cool match-ups in the other bowls than I was hoping for... The Chick-Fil-A Bowl, Clemson vs Auburn, looks great tho. Alabama Vs Colorado in the Independence Bowl and Tulsa vs Bowling Green in the GMAC Bowl looks fun, too.

I'm looking forward to those exact games as well as Florida State versus Kentucky. I'd love to go see that one in person. Could be fun.

Overall...this is the worst set of bowl matchups I can remember. We DESPERATELY NEED A BOWL SELECTION COMMITTEE to make attractive matchups for ALL NON-BCS BOWLS...I hate fucking ucla but even those shitheads don't deserve to play a team they already played this year and several times in recent years as nonconference opponents. C'mon. What a shit matchup.

The Holiday is a pretty good bowl It should be #3 Pac versus #3 Big12...I think ASU deserves a better game--better nonBCS game...like the Gator Bowl, for example..

Georgia Tech versus Fresno State is a rematch bowl game..I think they played in the last Silicon Valley Bowl Game....three years ago, if memory serves. This is going to a crappy game. Neither team or fans will be "jazzed" to go to Boise for this game. Terrible matchup.

Boise State got screwed too...they should have a much better opponent.

I think Maryland versus Oregon State is an interesting game. Could come down to a last second kick...

My vote for worst game goes to Indiana versus Oklahoma State...good grief. This one ha blowout snorefest written all over it...

Here are the bowls I'll be paying attention to and the teams I want to win:

Dec. 30 - Independence Bowl: Colorado

Dec. 31 - Chick-fil-A Bowl: Auburn

Jan. 1 - Capital One Bowl: Florida

Jan. 1 - Rose Bowl: Illinois

Jan. 1 - Sugar Bowl: Georgia

Jan. 7 - BCS Championship Game: LSU

Satyr....did you think Dorrell deserved to get sacked? Who do you think the gutties will hire? I think they're going to hire Slick Rick Neuheisel...

Seriously though! I mean, I am going to enjoy watching the Illini trample the Trojans....yeah, that's right! But something really needs to be done. And not to mention playing 6 weeks after the season ends.
But I doubt anything will change.

Christmas....you've just embarrassed yourself...the Illini trample the Trojans???

HAHAHA! No way. The SC DLine is gonna squeeze the Juice til he bursts...I bet Juice tosses 3 INTs and gets boo'd by his own fans!!!

titsrock:

The UCLA job is like fool's gold: it seems to be a cool idea, but it doesn't pay at all. I expect the Bruins to toss around a few 'name' names, then hire someone that takes their low-ball offer. They just don't spend the money like they do for basketball, and the reason you see people like Dorrell and Toledo as coaches rather than big name hires. Rick Neuheisel is a good idea...former Bruin, but would he take this job over a possible Penn State job down the line?

Yeah, the Holiday Bowl did score 2 excellent teams, Arizona State and Texas; thats one game I am definitely watching. Living on the west coast, I'm taking the Sun Devils in that one! They should be pissed off that they were passed over by the Fiesta Bowl!

The female fans attending the FSU-Kentucky game are going to ROCK, and I think the Wildcats roll in that one.

I think the USC Trojans of the last few weeks beat the Illinois Fighting Illini... if they play like mid-season (no offense), the Illini have a great shot at silencing peeps like Me that said "bring on a better team..."

While I SAY that the bowls could have been better I will certainly watch nearly ALL of them. I bet that there will be awesome games despite weird match-ups!

I wish they wouldn't have such a gap between the end of the season and the bowl games.

This is not necessarily the case. AD Dan Guerrero is on record as saying that he could have hired a "name" coach, at $2 million per, to replace Toledo in 2003, but went with his "gut" instead in choosing Dorrell.

Also, Neuheisel has been quoted as saying UCLA would be his dream job. If he's offered it you can bet he'll take it. However, it appears that offer is not forthcoming.

Apparently the three leading candidates at the moment (and subject to change) are 1) Chris Peterson, 2) Mike Leach, 3) Steve Mariucci

These 3 choices aren't very exciting. Peterson should go to a school like Texas Tech before a school like ucla. Mike Leach (ucla alum?)--if not, then why? He'd be horrible trying to recruit against SC. Mariucci seems comfy in the NFL Network studio. I doubt he'd leave that for another coaching job. He had a chance to be the Michigan State coach, to go home and be with his buddy Tom Izzo, when he didn't pursue that job I figured he's done...

I'm sure Dandy Guerrero has some other candidates in mind. Slick Rick would be a great hire. What about Mike Price as a scandalous but possibly effective hire??
