The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Kung Fu...I heard the entire SC team reads this board...they're probably going to track you down and come looking to smak you around a bit...Kung Fu Dude...the next SC Tackling Dummy!!:moon:

It's a good thing for KFD that 70% of the USC roster can't read.

I'll just have to kick some Booty, and take some names! That's what I do best, son.

It is pretty funny listening to the guys on ESPN talk about the BCS ranking system, none of them know how it works (neither do I). I still think that Hawaii should be #1 right now.

Southern Miss is looking for a new head coach, and the Golden Eagles play Cincinnati in the Papajohns Bowl. Why did they fire a proven winner?
We were picked to win the conference, and we finished fourth in our division. Included in that are getting blown out by Boise State, losing to RICE! at home, getting pummeled by UCF at home, and a suprise come from ahead loss to Memphis at home. Sure we finished 7-5, but we have lost 5 games the past four years, and the losses kept getting worse. Suffice it to say that change was needed. The handling of the whole thing was pretty damned shitty though. A lot of people are pissed about it.

Excellent explanation!
I always seen So Miss as an on-the-verge team/school that just hadn't made the big leap... but will the way that the coach's ouster was handled affect who they can bring in? What big name candidate wants to be possibly treated like that?

UCLA's candidates for the head coaching position are not that shock-and-awe worthy...

Big question for everyone:

What if Hawaii wins the Sugar Bowl? Would that be enough to split the national championship, at least in your opinion? They would remain undefeated and had knocked out a name opponent in a huge game...

These 3 choices aren't very exciting.

Agreed, although the Bruin boosters seem to be pretty high on Peterson. Lots of love for Neuheisel too, but apparently Guerrero doesn't want to go there. Mariucci is probably getting the third most support, but does he really want to work as hard as he'd be required to? Mike Price, Paul Johnson, John Gruden and Norm Chow have all been in the conversation, but more as asides, to date.

Mike Leach (ucla alum?)--if not, then why?

Nope, not an alum. Probably because considering the competition he's up against at that school in that state he's done a very good job at Tech.

Agreed, but are there any real shock and awe candidates out there?
Maybe, but not that I've heard of. Pete Carroll didn't fit that description when he came to USC. He wasn't even Mike Garrett's first choice (which figures - Garrett's not the sharpest tool in the shed) though he ended up saving Garrett's job. Either way Dorrell wasn't producing - a .500 coach excepting his one 10 and 2 season, which was basically a mirage (and the 2 losses were absolute blowouts) - so a change made sense. Just to underscore things, you should have seen the look on Carroll's face last Saturday (kind of a combination of wtf???? and jubilation) at a critical penalty Dorrell foolishly accepted. But in the post game interview Carroll went on to praise Dorrell for the coaching job he's done at UCLA; just like Bruin coaches used to praise Paul Hackett ;)

Christmas....you've just embarrassed yourself...the Illini trample the Trojans???

HAHAHA! No way. The SC DLine is gonna squeeze the Juice til he bursts...I bet Juice tosses 3 INTs and gets boo'd by his own fans!!!

Oh you! The Illini is a team of destiny, they got nothing to lose. Trojans secondary is weakass! Juice is going to open the lanes for Mendenhall. They are going to go out and play like gang busters. Cause they aint got nothing to lose.

Ok, so maybe they wont trample them. What's something a little less then that? Pee all over? Yeah, that's it! They are going to pee all over them!

^
If it weren't for their long layoff I'd take Illinois and the points.
I still might :)

Update: As of this morning Chris Peterson claims to have no interest in the UCLA job.

Yeah, four more weeks! Argh! I just hope it's a good game. It is going to be tough for the Illini realistically, but they have the tools to make it one interesting game!

The layoff though....argh!

WIN.

I'd like if UCLA gets an offensive minded coach, and seriously wouldn't mind if a lesser known name steps in and takes control of the program the way Terry Donahue did long ago; it just seems that school admin settles rather than pursues.

We all know of Southern Cal's aches and pains... but does Illinois have any players with injuries? I know that LSU has a TON of injuries to heal up...what about other teams?

GO ILLINI!!!
HAIL TO THE CHIEF!!!

anyway, lookin forward to the game. while the BCS certainly stirred some controversy, it made for a hell of an interesting regular season!

Just watch, as a backlash of karma we're going to have only one or two teams with a serious change for the next ten years now.

Pete Carroll begged Garrett for an interview after Mike Belotti/Dennis Erickson and Mike Riley all told SC to beat it. I won't say "I KNEW PETE WOULD BE AWESOME" because I was very pissed when Pete was hired. :thefinger;)

Chris Peterson has a good thing going in Boise. The quality of life in Idaho--the natural splendor, the friendly tax situation..all are probably the reasons he's staying in Boise.

The real candidate for ucla is Slick Rick Neuheisel. He's offensively focused. He's a great recruiter. He's an alum. I happen to think he got railroaded at Washington but look at them since he left...they are a shell of a program even under Ty Willingham.

ESPN just "speculated" cough, cough "reported" that Norm Chow is a candidate. If Norm Chow truly hates Pete Carroll..he'll take the job. If he's "moved on" I think he stays in Tennessee. Norm Chow would be a fantastic hire for ucla and a nightmare hire for USC.
