This has been the best year in college football from a fan's standpoint; when was the last time there has been so many upsets and teams clawing their way to the top of the polls?

My Top Ten Teams, week 12, end of the regular season in a year that there were so many different schools in the top ten...

1. West Virginia 10-1 - The Mountaineers were all over My top ten, at the end of the season, they sit at the top; is that a blessing or a curse?

2. Missouri 11-1 - The Tigers had one of those magical seasons, and their win against Kansas put them into My Championship game against WV.

3. Ohio State 11-1 - The Buckeyes were #1 at one point, but they end the season at number three, and not so convincingly.

4. LSU 10-2 - The Tiger's losses were in OT, but they cost them so much, especially the New Classic against Arkansas.

5. Hawaii 11-0 - Schedule/conference be damned, the Warriors went undefeated in a year everyone lost.

6. Kansas 11-1 - Jayhawks hopes shattered tonight.
7. Georgia 10-2 - Bulldogs don't even get to play for SEC title.
8. USC 9-2 - Don't call it a comeback, The Trojans expect more.
9. Oklahoma 10-2 - 2 bad losses cost the Sooners more than any team...
10. Florida 9-3 - ...Except for the 3 losses the Gators have: They could beat any of the teams ahead of them.

Thanks for the fun season: South Florida, for getting sooooooooo close to being number one!

What the fuck happened to you? goes to: Nebraska, for suffering a season where they self-destructed worse than Notre Dame.

Heisman Trophy: Tim Tebow, QB Florida - a season for the ages.
MVP QB: Dennis Dixon, Oregon - Without him, the Ducks suck.
MVP RB: Darren McFadden, Arkansas - The New Eric Dickerson (talentwise lol)
MVP WR: Mario Manningham, Michigan - As he goes so go the Wolverines
MVP Offense: Oregon - When everyone was healthy, they were SCARY
MVP Defense: USC Trojans - The offense let them down, not the Defense.

Congratulations sp00ner! - but remember, being ranked 1 or 2 has not been a good thing this year, and you've still got one more game, and it's against Oklahoma, and you're still Missouri ;)

Karl Dorrell's ass is on the line..

Rightfully so.

if he can beat Oregon today..maybe he saves his neck.

And so they did, and his kids played hard. But Oregon's offense is decimated, and I'm thinking UCLA still needs to beat SC for him to stay around. The program would likely be better off, in the long run, if they don't.

The Bruins are going to get humiliated against the Trojans next week.

It's too bad UCLA isn't heathy at TB and healthier at QB or I think that would be one heck of a game. SC is definitely on the upswing, though a bit too late - if only they hadn't lost that game to Stanford.....

Satyr - I agree USC has got an excellent defense. As for Hawaii, I wouldn't put them in my top 10 (nor even 20) - not even in this crazy season.

Not that I'm saying they deserve to be, but considering their rep & name recognition why isn't a one loss Ohio State team ranked above a one loss West Virginia and/or Missouri team? (maybe they will be in the BCS poll?)

This might be one of the best NCAA football years I can remember just because of the chaos that is happening in it.

I agree.

But it points to the fact that NCAA football desperately needs a playoff system - IMO.

But man, could the NFL ever learn about overtime. The Kentucky/Tennessee one was great (I missed the LSU/Arkansas one).

Hawaii wasn't one of those GREAT great teams, but they have a valid Heisman hopeful in QB Colt Brennan and, with him, an excellent offense. So far, they are this year's Boise State, a team that they took out to claim their first league title in their last game of the the season.

Thats a good question about Ohio State... I don't think there has been a team that went to number one with fans and experts fully expecting them to lose the ranking. While their name and rep is unquestioned, their play on the field this year, for some reason, seemed forgettable.

Yep

To a great extent, yes. I'm thinking Oklahoma's going to take down Mizzou, so despite appearing less than stellar OSU may yet make the title game even if they aren't ranked 1,2 at this point.

I forgot all about the Big 12 championship game. Here I was thinking OSU had no chance. But they definitely still do.
Not that I am rooting for them - I am not. I would love to see someone new win it all like Mizzou or West Virginia.

With respect, I don't think Hawaii's schedule has been nearly strong enough to justify a number 5 ranking. Though I do think they should be in the top ten.
And Brennan's coach is June Jones - the father(?) of the Run and Shoot offense. Any QB that runs that offense - especially in a weak conference like the WAC - and doesn't pile up a ton of yards and TD's is having a bad year, IMO.

I totally understand and can agree: Hawaii's scheduling sucks and I don't think that mid-tier teams will ever get the kinds of schedules that will allow them to play on New Years' Day or afterwards because the top tier teams won't risk a loss. My ranking them at #5 is obviously subjective and is totally based on them being undefeated in a wacky season in which better teams took a loss or two; I saw 3 of Hawaii's games and they are pretty fun to watch!

I'd like to see USC v Florida/Georgia in the Rose..assuming Ohio State goes to the National CHampionship. I do think Okie is going to beat Mizzou.

I think Washington is going to beat Hawaii. Hawaii is deserving of a good bowl game but not a BCS game. Hawaii is at a severe disadvantage when it comes to scheduling opponents. I think the Pac10 would be smart if it invited Hawaii and Colorado to join and expand the conference....

Darren McFadden, Chase Daniel and Tim Tebow are the Heisman finalists. I'm sad that Dixon is out for the season. He would've won it. I think Darren McFadden deserves to win it. Tim Tebow is a sophomore and no sophomore has ever or should ever win the Heisman.

BCS rules only allow two teams from a conference to make it in each year, so you can't have UF, UGA AND LSU all in. :nono:

As far as Hawaii goes I don't know how much control they have in setting up their schedule but it still would suck to go undefeated and not even have a Chance. That would mean there is nothing you would virtually ever be able to from the very begging.

Florida would be the team that misses out, and an at-large bid goes to... Boston College (Orange Bowl?) or Hawaii (Sugar Bowl?) And what of...Oklahoma? The Big 12 would have 3 teams in as well...Would another at-large bid go to Arizona State (a lock for the Fiesta Bowl)?

At ESPN, they project it as such:

BCS Matchups (If Missouri beats Oklahoma)
Allstate BCS National Championship Game
Missouri (Big 12 champ) vs. West Virginia (Big East champ)

The Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi
Ohio State (Big Ten champ) vs. USC (Pac-10 champ)

FedEx Orange Bowl
Virginia Tech (ACC champ) vs. Georgia (at-large)

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Kansas (at-large) vs. Arizona State (at-large)

Allstate Sugar Bowl
LSU (SEC champ) vs. Hawaii (at-large)

If OSU gets to the national championship...is it at all possible for USC to meet LSU in the Sugar?

This may be sacrilege but a USC vs Illinois Rose Bowl is about as exciting as attending a Needlepoint Convention..

The Big Ten will only put one team in this year, and Ohio State took that spot. West Virginia will probably bump OSU for the Championship game.

If Missouri loses then it's West Virginia versus Ohio State for the Title. I agree that the Big10(11) only deserves 1 team this year. The Rose Bowl committee are a bunch of blue hairs who wax nostalgic for Big10/Pac10 matchups...Illinois could move into Top12 if Missouri and LSU lose...

This is the type of season that people need to not only look at the Oklahoma-Missouri match-up, but the West Virginia-Pitt match-up, as well; I really like the Mountaineers, but there is an outside chance that they could lose the Backyard Brawl (don't say "no way! Satyr is on crack!" - this whole season has been dominated by crazy stuff).

So what if Oklahoma and Pitt win?
National Championship game:
Ohio State vs ....Georgia?

I wouldn't mind a USC/Illinois match-up in the Rose Bowl if Ohio State backs into the big game. I think the Illini have a fun offense to watch. But it would be awesome if Rose Bowl officials skip the Big 10 commitment and give an at-large bid to... Hawaii!

Lots of the non-BCS Bowls, non-New-Years day games will be really good to watch this year with so many possible match-ups between great schools...

Non-BCS Bowl Games on New Year's Day

Cotton Bowl
Oklahoma or Missouri (Big 12 #2) vs Georgia or Florida (SEC #3/4)

Capital One Bowl
Illinois (Big 10 #2) vs LSU or Tennessee (SEC #2)

Gator Bowl
Virginia (ACC #3) vs Texas (Big 12 #4)

Outback Bowl
Michigan (Big 10 #3) vs Georgia or Florida (SEC #3/4)

Insight Bowl
Texas A & M (Big 12 #6) vs Iowa (Big 10 #6)

Obviously the BCS committee will take the best for at-large bids...things get really wacky in the smaller bowls as they will snag many of the conferences #3-6 teams! Expect many cool match-ups!

I think they should go ahead and ship the Heisman Trophy to Florida for Tim Tebow.
