Are Federer's rivals pretenders to the throne?

With 16 grand slams and counting, he could afford to rest on his laurels, but while his challengers offer such an inconsistent threat the 28-year-old is making hay while the sun still shines.

IMO, only Rafa inmediatly.

Nole already proof that he's unworthy of the trhone. Roddick and Kolya are too old already. Murray should be winning majors by now, instead, he's struggling with people like Kohlscherieber and Tipsarevic.

But in 2-3 years, Delpo, Cilic and even Gulbis should be right there at the top. But the throne ??? well, that's a Roger-Rafa thing for now.

In fact, there's a HUGE chance that Rafa gets the No. 1 spot after Wimbledon (not after Roland Garros, where Roger must fall in QF and Rafa must won), so...
It's going to be a very interesting second semester of the 2010, since neither has too many points to defend.
London finals, anyone ? :)

top seed, Robin Soderling was eliminated of the ATP 250 of Nice, France, in hands of O. Rochus.

big surprise, if you ask me.

with this, and his performance in the 3 clay masters, he's no longer a threat in the roland garros.
not for rafa and roger, at least.

seed no.4, thomaz belluci was also eliminated.

good for gasquet, who reached QF and faces o.rochus for the SF spot. shouldn't be a problem for the french.

On behalf on the Royal Philological Society of California , I apologize if I haven't precisely distinguished between "cool" and "worshippable". While Sampras wasn't exactly "cool", he was the embodiment of tennis perfection, and I feel blessed that he gave me his autograph.

The Australian Open match between Sampras and Courier (I believe it was 1992) was the best match I've ever seen in men's tennis. And even if it wasn't, Pete Perfect was more of a character than everybody of the indistingiuishable lameducks on the tour nowadays.l

Ah, so you're speaking as a fan wanking over a great memory...rather than as a tennis critic. Sampras was a great champion and a worthy representative of American tennis. He delivered whereas Andy Roddick just whined and made excuses for his many losses.

But you also like James Blake :D Oiii, vey. Talk about overrated, nonfactors... His "game" is ugly to watch too :thefinger But, again, he's a nice player. I root for him, but I expect him to lose everytime he steps on the court....

Why is Nadal boring to watch? I would like an answer to that...

Is Nadal's style of tennis BORING?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090129145531AA3F1PZ

for the record, like i said before, IMO, Nadal style of play is NOT boring at all. On the contrary, it's spectacular as hell :thefinger vamos Rafa!

in other news,

ATP 250 of Nice (France) SF:

Gasquet-Starace (go Richard!)
Verdasco-Mayer (vamos Leo!)

Del Porto will never win another major again.

Injury Sidelines Juan Martin Del Potro: Will He Be a One-Slam Wonder?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/388546-juan-martin-del-potros-cause-for-concern

i disagree with you, PornLover33.

IMO, he will win several more majors, 'cause he got the game, and most important, the heart.

he's too young and have wrist problems for now. give him a year and he will be back in track.
in fact, if it wasn't for his wrist, he will be reached SF (or better) in australia and would be a favorite for roland garros.

VAMOS DELPO! :thefinger

the roland garros draw is out! let's see how it went:

first section:
big gun: Roger. Federer should not have any problem with people like Feliciano Lopez and Monfils/Wawrinka. He should be the QF spot winner of this section.

second section:
Cilic and Gulbis should face each other in the 4th round. Nice match! the winner of this one would face Soderling in another great match to watch. My guess is with Gulbis since he is in-form and robin is not, depite their rankings

1st QF: Federer-Gulbis

third section:
Murray has a very tough first round match against Richard Gasquet (ouch!) and he might fall, but i don't think that would happen. Then he would face Baghdatis in 3rd round and he again might fall, but again, i give him the benefit of the doubt. for now.
finally, in 4th round, he would face Isner or Berdych. And i'm gonna dare to say that Murray is going to win his section. I know, it's a long shot but i'll bet for him.

fourth section:
Youzhny would have no problems to reach 4th round, beating Robredo in 3th round. He will face Tsonga and will fall against the local boy.

2nd QF: Murray-Tsonga

fifth section:
Roddick would face Monaco in 3rd round. Nice match. The winner of this match would face Ferrer, who surely win that one.

sixth section:
Ferrero and Querrey in 3rd round looks awesome. the winner of this match would face Nole, but watch it with Giraldo in 2nd round... since Nole is playing bad and little, my guess is with Ferrero, a clay-court specialist and former champion.

3rd QF: Ferrer-Ferrero

seventh section:
Verdasco should have no problems in beating Almagro or Feña. After all, he's one of my favorites for the title.

eight secion:
Rafa should have no problems with people like Zeballos and Hewitt. In 4th round he will face Ljubicic of Belluci, and he will prevail.

4th QF: Nadal-Verdasco

so,

the Rafa-Fer match is definitely the match of the tournament (except the eventual Roger-Rafa feud, of course) and who knows, Fer is having an exceptional year and maybe, just maybe, would be finally able to get Rafa out of his head. Even if Rafa prevail, the SF is against a clay-court countryman again. Ferrer or Ferrero is a hard bone to eat in clay, even for Rafa. Conclusion: Rafa has a very tough draw.
On the other hand, Roger's draw is far more soft. Gulbis is playing great and all, but hey, this is a Grand Slam. It's a different world. A world where Roger has been the indisputably king. And Murray/Tsonga represent no harm for Fed.

Anyone else is freakin' excited??? ;)

Verdasco just beat Mayer in the Nice SF.
It's his 4 final of the year and his 6th in the last 9 months. Nothing bad.

Like i said two posts above (here), he's the favorite for roland garros (after rafa and roger, of course)

Prince of the Rotten Milk
Gasquet just beat Starace in the other Nice SF.
It's his 2nd final of the year (he lost against Baghdatis in Sydney).
He will try to get his 6th career title, first in 2 and a half years.

Against verdasco, he's 4-5, losing the last 5
they already played each other this year, in Barcelona

Decent writeup on Nadal and his physical breakdown these past 2 years..:crying:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/tennis/2010-05-20-rafael-nadal-french-open_N.htm

nice! ;)

thanks for that, TR.

i love the end:

"It's important that a guy like Rafa stays in the game," Federer says.

:thefinger

Off to go see where that little pansy Soderling is in the draw...muwahahahaha

about robin... he was looking much stronger in past months than now.
and i see no reason (at least a notorious one) for this.
too much pressure to be a top player maybe?
his level of play was temporary?
anyway, he will lose against Gulbis (or Federer at best) and lose a ton of points, ergo, will lose several rankings.

happy times for raFANs
