2011 Tennis Thread (Grand Slams, ATP World Tour, Davis Cup)

Roddick out to Lopez, it's becoming more likely that he will never reach a slam final again, let alone win one. Just hasn't got it anymore.
Zvonareva goes down to saucy Pironkova, I guess shrieky Venus will beat her next though.
She won alongside fellow shriekers Sharapova and Azarenka.

'Shriekers.' lol. That's proper.

Roddick is in Lleyton Hewitt land now; we will likely never, ever see him win another (my hope WOULD BE US Open). I honestly think he might have one more run at an Open title, but just maybe one.

Shit, I hate watching my heros like Hewitt falter like it always does to the greats.

Pironkova seems to like Wimbledon. She was in the semifinals here last year...and haven´t gone past round two in any tournament since then, and is now in the fourth round again this year. Weird, i have seen her play in some matches this year and she´s been absolutely awful (especially when she falls into the habit of using that useless poke/slice thing she does on her forehand).

I'm not really interested in Tennis, but I'm kinda sad that Görges is already out. She's cute. Oh and Petkovic.

Hope Lisicki is going to reach some more rounds. :)

Yeah its the German return to prominence :hammer:
Gorgeous Görges, Petkorazzi and Boom Boom 'Bine :nanner:
Two in the top 20, and the other probably returning there soon.

I've never even heard of Cetkovská, assuming Lisicki can beat her though.
The problem is Serena in the QF :uohs:

It's the middle Sunday break though, so no play today...

Both the Williams sisters and Wozniacki out all together
Draw really opens up for the other players now, like Sabine who beat Cetkovská...
Kvitova is looking good, only dropped 15 games in 4 matches so far.

Also Berdych is out to Fish, surprising. Tomas' two big results from last year (RG SF, Wim F) have not been defended but he will still be in the top 10.
Mardy gives himself some breathing room but with (probably) Nadal next that might be the end for him.
Same with Tomic who gets to about 70 in the rankings by beating Malisse, he will probably lose to Djokovic next.

Lisicki in the SF :nanner: with Sharapova, while Azarenka will play Kvitova.

Masha is playing very well so it will be Sabine's biggest test. It must be one of the best performances by a wild card in a slam. I know on the men's side at least Ivanisevic won Wimbledon as a WC, and Clijsters won the USO that way for the women...
Not sure how the other semi will go, but Kvitova probably has the higher level when she is 'on', blasting the players off the court, so I will go for her.

The mens QF's are is all Big Four vs underdog, it will a surprise if there are any upsets.
Tsonga is probably the best player out of the four, but he has to face Fed. Lopez and Fish don't seem likely and Tomic shouldn't have enough to beat Novak, although he might match up pretty well style wise.

Well it won't be Fed in the final, lost after being 2-0 sets up in a slam for the first time in his career
Tsonga was in amazing form, like AO 08 style - lots of big serving, super drop volleys and hard hitting. Deserving semi-finalist

Tomic gave Djokovic a bit of a scare too, hard to work real hard to get by in 4 sets

Nadal up a break early 2-1 and serving...

always sad when FED loses in a GS.
sad to see him slowly fade away,as all the other greates in the past.
but Jo was super today! when he's confident,he's unstoppable.
he's got amazing footwork,he's so athletic, fast, tough,he's got it all.it's only the consistency that's not there all the time.based on his skills,he should have won a GS by now.
let's see if he does win this year ;-)

Nadal is beating Murray's ass today. Looks like Murray isn't even trying. How many drop shots is he going to give up on?

Nadal just too strong for Murray! but it was always gonna be ...

tartanterrier

Is somewhere outhere.
True. After those 2 sitters he missed in the 2nd set, that was the beginning
of the end for Murray.I think Murray will end up like a Scottish Tim Henman :)

Before that FH that he missed that would have put him up 15-40 on Nadals serve in the second set, Murray looked like he could win. Then he just went into meltdown mode. As usual, his head gets in the way of slam success.
Nadal played great though, fifth Wimbledon final now against Djokovic, who will be ranked number 1 now even if Nadal wins thanks to that 43 match win streak to start the year.

He is #1 now.

Kvitova wins her first slam at Wimbledon  :hybrid: May be more to come
She is a ball-crushing winner machine when on form, more than Sharapova even. Hitting about 9mph faster than her on average in the match in the first set at least...and not a shrieker, lol. Only a yelp/bark kind of thing after she wins a point sometimes.
Maria still looks back to a high level after her injuries though, SF and F at the last two slams is good, she should be in contention in the future too.
Needs to cut down on double faults though obviously.

Only the Djokadal final to go now :hammer:

No. The Bryan bros are right now trying to win another major. Quite honestly probably the greatest duo in tennis history. :2 cents:
