2010 Olympics in Vancouver thread

Vancouver 2010 couldn't have a worse start than this: a dead athlete, a major gaffe during the opening ceremony and now the men's downhill has been postponed.

Three strikes and your out! Canada has to be expelled from international sports.

1) Montreal: First major boycott in the history of the Games and financial desaster
2) Calgary: Scheduled in time for the Chinook season.
3) Vancouver: warm weather, a dead luger and Anne Murray!

Consider yourselves banished from the face of the earth, mooses!

We should have given the Winter Games to Dubai. We would have beautiful, climatized indoor slopes, smiling happy people everywhere, a skating rink of frozen gold, the best prostitutes from Russia for the enterteinment of IOC members and ice polo on camels as an Olympic sport. Israel would be excluded, but hey - you can't have everything!

Ski jump, normal size

1. Simon Amann (SUI)
2. Adam Małysz (POL)
3. Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT)

Man, Malysz is about to get his first gold medal ever after a long career, and on the last jump Amann comes in and ruins it.

Oi vey.

The sad part is there is no protective gears around the turns and bars in the luge when you are going to make a turn at 90 miles per hours. Someone has to die before the IOC and VANOC to make `some` changes !

I like the Japanese snowboarder. Kokubu? I am rooting for him. Snowboarding and any XGames sports really don't belong in the Olympics. They are in opposite of the money and the country-specific nature of the Olympics. XGames sports break down barriers and cultures which the Olympics reinforces.

I'm not sure why this snowboarder is catching flak for his appearance? He looks like every other snowboarder I've seen :dunno:

The Second-Hottest Man in my Mother's Basement
Man, I've been reading a lot of reviews for the opening ceremonies, and for the most part they are all positive. The only part I see that everyone doesn't seem to like was the young woman who sang the national anthem. Personally, I didn't like it at the beginning, but by the end it grew on me a bit. I would have prefered that she stuck to the original, normal way to sing it, but if she had to go and turn it into a power ballad, well I think she did a decent job.

Who was it singing? I didn't figure that out.

And MAN, did you just see Sven Kramer skate? That guy is a damn workhorse. Did you hear that one of the power companies in the Netherlands will give discounts for the next year for each gold he brings home? The Dutch are totally speed-skating crazy!
