Two new coaches in the NHL today. Columbus signs Scott Arniel, and Tampa manages to land Guy Boucher. Stevie Y's first move is a good one.

So far the new Ligning owner has been great. Landing Yzerman and then Boucher is the best moves the team could have made. Now all we have to do is get rid of some players and bring in a good goalie ( sorry Mike Smith I'm not sure you can do the job anymore ) and we will be ok.

we're starting to look very dangerous.

it's been years since Tampa fans have been able to feel this good about the goings on with ownership and coaching. let's hope this eventually translates to a powerhouse team on the ice.

That would be awsome ! I'm sure Vinny and Marty will be very happy having a french speaking coach like Boucher.

The Tampa Bay Lightning added NHL veteran and Stanley Cup Champion Pat Verbeek to its professional scouting staff, Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced this morning. Verbeek joins the Lightning from the Detroit Red Wings where he had spent the previous four seasons as a professional scout.

“Pat brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience as a player and a scout to our staff,” Yzerman said. “His ability to identify and evaluate talent will be a great resource as we move forward and we are pleased he elected to continue his career with the Lightning.”

Verbeek, 46, spent the previous four seasons as a pro scout with the Detroit Red Wings, assisting the management staff as the organization both built from within and made key acquisitions from outside to build a deep and talented roster. He scouted select teams at both the AHL and NHL levels, providing key information to the Detroit coaching and management staffs regarding potential trades and free agent acquisitions.

A native of Sarnia, Ontario, Verbeek played for five different teams during a 20-year NHL career. He appeared in 1,424 games with the New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers, the New York Rangers, Dallas Stars and the Red Wings, compiling 522 goals and 1,063 points. He is the only player in NHL history to total more than 500 goals and 2,500 career penalty minutes. Verbeek also won the Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999.

Verbeek was originally drafted by New Jersey in the third round, 43rd overall, of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft.

I wonder which team is going to be better in a few years, Tampa or Florida?

After 21 NHL seasons, Rob Blake is calling it a career.

The veteran defenceman is expected to make an official announcement on his retirement as early as next week.

Blake, 40, played in 1,270 career NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks, scoring 240 goals and 777 points. His best season came in 1993-94, when he posted 68 points.

The Simcoe, Ontario native helped lead the Kings to the Stanley Cup Final in 1993 and won his first and only Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2001.

Blake also won the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenceman in 1998, was a First Team All-Star that same season and was named to three Second Team All Star berths. He played in three Winter Olympics with Team Canada, winning a gold medal in 2002. He also won gold at the IIHF World Championship in 1994 and 1997.

As captain of the Sharks this past season, Blake played in 70 games, scoring seven goals and 30 points.

i wouldn't be surprised if Teemu Selanne, Mark Recchi and Scott Niedermeyer call it quits too.

Going to seven games would probably not be in the best of interests for the NHL. The World Cup starts on the same day as Game seven.

Damn, is Niemi saving their bacon bits at the moment, or what?

Edit: less than ten seconds after this post, Philly (the fuckers) scored. :rage:

Well it's obvious that Buttman doesn't care about things like that. Why would you put a game up against the NBA Finals when you could have had an undivided audience by putting the game on in the afternoon on a weekend?
