2010 Olympics in Vancouver thread

Pretty much. I'm not questioning the legitimacy of all the sports in the Olympics, as they all require a great amount of skill and effort. Also, I respect what all the athletes do and applaud them for their dedication to their sport, but I just think it's funny how people can go 3 1/2 years without even thinking about bobsledding, or alpine skiing, or high dive, or badminton and then get all geeked about the Olympics like they are die hard fans.
I have a feeling you´re talking from an american perspective here. In europe are many olympic sports extremely popular. For example: in Sweden is Helena Jonsson (biathlon) by far the most popular swedish athlete.

I do see your point. I'm still excited. I think it is more than bobsledding (Bob sleigh?), or any individual sport. I know I'm naive, dumb, idealistic, a fuck-knob, whatever you'd like to say. I am excited anytime something this international happens. I don't think the Olympics are the way to world peace. I enjoy the peaceful things that often happen at the Olympics, however. I also enjoy seeing the sports - all of them. I don't want to watch them all the time. The novelty of the Olympics, these sports being shown only every four years (for most of us), adds to the novelty. I'd even be in favour of eliminating hockey from the winter Olympics - let's keep it outside of the realm of people making millions a year on NHL contracts. But that's just my $0.02.

Really, I'm excited to see it all - The only time EVER that curling was shown on television in the part of the country I'm in currently was the last Olympics. People were excited about it. They don't want to see it every day, but once every four years - that's cool.

So, meh. Don't watch if you don't like them. Let the rest of us glory in the Olympic spirit (whatever the fuck that is).

Winter Olympics are like the Summer Olympics (duh) except with tons of skiing instead of track and field. Really hard to tell the difference, or to remain interested, when there are so many different disciplines. Biathlon is pretty fun though.

The hockey will be great. Bob I don't mind either, and like lurkingdirk said about curling, it's a mocked, but once you get into it, quite funny game. Doesn't have the speed of other sports, but it certainly keeps me interested at least.

Some of us actually do follow those sports every year. :)

That's cool, I don't mean to attack anybody on here personally. I'm just speaking in generalities.

Hey.

It's hard for me to care about most Winter Olympic sports because I live in a part of Canada where there are no mountains for hours. The closest place to ski is about two hours away, and that's the only place I know in Saskatchewan to go skiing.

But hockey is sweet.

The Olympics are just a bunch of sports nobody cares about for 3 1/2 years.

ROFL. Like archery, or shot-putting, or wrestling?

Haha, dude, badmitton is a summer sport. Badmitton? Walking "races"? LOL. Archery? There are just so many lame ass events in the summer olympics. And BTW, hockey is the BEST sport on the planet, not filled with a bunch premadonna's and criminals like the other three major sports. :D

Hockey players are the toughest athletes as well, and none of them are dopers like Giambi, Bonds, McGuire and Rodruigez, and the rest of the cheaters in baseball, the druggies in the NFL and NBA.

But I will say this, there are some pretty dumb sports in the winter olympics as well.

Sorry to disappoint you but you won't see those girls in Vancouver. Not unless there's a last-minute entry for judo, sailing and field hockey. Those pictures were taken for the last Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Shhh. I know that, but I'm trying to build hype here.

you smelly bastard!

Will all Men's Hockey be played at GM Place? The day of the Preliminary Playoff Round (5th thru 12th seeds play - 2/23/10 is the date)- it says times are 12, 4:30, 7 and 9 pm PST- How are they going to play a game at 7- the 2nd game wont be over.
