Our first gold medal! :nanner: :nanner:
And a local girl too!
Let's see if we can get another in an hour or so.

Gällivare?

Guess her gold makes up for the unfortunate absence of another Gällivare Girl: Lina Andersson :), which was especially a 'drain' for the Team Sprint.

Canadians! They can't even drive a Zamboni! Grrrrr! Fly in Ben and Jerry to help you out, mooses!

Benjamin and Jerry Horne from Up North US of A? ;)

Not such a good idea: I'm afraid that their Zamboni will turn out to be the hiding place of another dead (female) athlete, wrapped in plastic.

And then Dale Cooper will have to cancel the entire Olympics, after uttering his disgust of Canadian Coffee.

Womens hockey is a joke. 18-0?? That's ridiculous. Who's going to win this year, Canada or U.S.A? There is a zero percent chance another country will win. Bronze is the best the other countries can do.

The sport itself isn't a joke, I think.
But the international competition level is definitely NOT sufficient to be of genuine Olympic Level.

Here in Europe it's the same with Korfball: looks a bit like basketball, played with mixed genders (YES!), but every international tournament is only a battle between Belgium and the Netherlands. Therefore not to be taken in consideration to become an Olympic Sport. But I guess that hockey has got a more powerful lobby: US of A & Canada, compared to the Lower Countries! :D

Lina Andersson wouldn´t be a part of the team sprint even if she were in great shape. The team sprint is in freestyle this year and Lina is much better in the classical style. The Swedish team will be Charlotte Kalla and Hanna Falk (if she´s injury free). If Falk can´t start it will be Anna Haag, Anna Olsson or Ida Ingemarsdotter who takes the last stage. A Lina Andersson in her best shape would have been one of the favourites in the individual sprint though.

She is from Tärendö in the neighbouring municipality, but she and Lina are working out together.

US did'nt look particularly great in the first period agains those amateurs from Suisse. I think two days (or was it one?) is not enough time for a team to gel. Oh well, all the teams are under the same rules. Canada will do everything in their power to take the gold. The country has said it's the one medal they would like to take gold in in all the events. They will be hard to defeat.

Plus the roster for the US doesn't look like the one I had seen before. Where are Okposo and Martin?

 There's professional hockey in Europe. During the 2004 lockout...

wikipedia said:
The majority of players who agreed to play in other professional hockey leagues were playing in Europe. During 2004–05 season 388 NHL players played in European leagues. The most popular countries were Russia, with 78 NHL players, Sweden, with 75 NHL players, the Czech Republic, with 51 NHL players, Finland, with 45 NHL players and Germany with 22 NHL players.

Switzerland's league is pro, too.

I'm well aware of that. But nothing compares to the NHL. Not even the KHL can mess with the NHL.

Noone said that, right? But the Suisse league is a professional sports league...but okay, Canadians think they stand above all when it comes to hockey. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...you gonna watch the "tre kronor" take the gold...:nanner:

Anyhow, our second medal, silver, Biathlon pursuit...yeah!!! And Sweden's got their second gold, Björn Ferry.

My cous' plays in the AHL and he could be on that Suisse team. In fact he'd probably captain that team. He was captain on a DI team for three years.

The Yanks' played poorly in the first game. Too many first timers. We needed at least a Modano or a Guerin or somebody to anchor that team. No, they didn't look too good.

Another gold medal for Canada! Booyah!

I thought the Americans played a decent game against the Swiss. Third period was bad, but it seemed to me that, no matter where the Swiss had the puck, an American was always right there.
