Klinsman will, without a doubt, do a much better job with USA than Bruce Arena ever did but it's not just the coach, it's the brilliant players. USA doesn't have players like Klose and Lahm and Ballack.

I don't think in 4 years Klinsmann will create brilliant players, nor do we have any. But I do think he can bring a winning attitude and a certain amount of respect and a knowledge that we Americans just don't have about the game. We can produce very good players...can we not produce players on par with Japan? Ghana? Mexico?

This would be similiar to American coaches coaching baseball or basketball overseas. Klinsmann and USA soccer should look for more consistant play. Then comes the victories. Then the World Cup....much much later. Despite the FIFA 5th ranking, we played totally rank, finishing 32 in the tournament.

The goal is that by 2050, an android robot team will be able to compete with the human version on equal terms (so that explains England's form in the group stages.....:D )

Good job, Germany! :nanner:
I'm looking forward to the Germany - Argentina quarter-final and hope Germany will win.

Btw., watching the Argentina - Mexico game I thought that the mexican coach Ricardo La Volpe reminds me of someone.
Now I know: :D

Very interesting line up this, Rooney up front by himself for the very first time in his career. Also after just coming back from injury playing such a demanding role. But at least this formation 4-5-1 should release Gerrard AT LAST!

Good luck England!
I know I have Ecuadar going thru, but....on paper, I think you should win!

so, the France finally did it :)
it was hard and now I hope we will now have the bit of luck we need to win against spain and maybe also make the brazil falling in the 4th of final ;)

France played quite well through the 1st phase, but lacked a bit of realism at the end of each action...

can't wait to see what gonna happen in Germany - Argentina

Bad call by the coach if you ask me. You can't change formations and players EVERY DAMN GAME. Players need to player together for a while to learn to know each other.
Just look at Brazil, they played BAD the first 2 games and their subtitutes were way better than most of their starters but Parreira stayed with the same line-up and it payed off in the 3rd match.

I'm sorry to insult all the English fans but, at half time, the game is pretty much even when the only good attempt on goal was by Ecuador.

Poor game but Sven got it right. Despite Ecuador being the better team, it is ENgland who have progressed. Rooney lasted the whole game and played well. However for me the best player on the pitch was Hargreaves.

Agreed. Shame on whoever told me a few pages ago Hargreaves isn't good enough. If England stays with their 4-5-1 its Hargreaves who should play behind Gerrard and Lampard. Heck, just take Lampard out, he is sucking out there, whereas Gerrard played bad today but well in the last games.

YAWN!

Thank god thats over, well if there was a world cup for most boring team, we'd win that with ease:thumbsup:

No real attacking play or even desire as usual. With the usual bad tatics from Sven.

until now all the favorites wins but we will see what happens tonight with Netherland - Portugal ;)
I can't wait to be tuesday to see Brazil - Ghana and of course France - Spain :D

Who is the favorite?
I know Holland is considered better but Portugal finished their group with 9 points and, as we saw last night, Argentina isnt a whole lot better than Mexico.

Except that, Sven actually has no idea about tactics...
No surprise to see Steve McClaren doing all the scribbling on the notepad during the match.

Sven is basically a conman.
He came with little reputation, bedded half of the secretaries at the FA, been given a huge payrise when it was thought he'd leave and now is 'guiding' England somewhat precariously through this world cup, whilst showing all the enthusiasm of someone waiting for the last bus home after a night on the tiles.

It's kind of a pity we didn't lose to Ecuador, just so we could wave ta-ta to this clown.

Heres a idea, lets have a points system on this for the world cup. Then we would most certainly win that. But I can blame him on Farah or whatever her name is, I'd would have made a move for her too:thumbsup:

:nanner: :nanner: COME ON ENGLAND! FUCK THE HATERS :thefinger

I knew we would win. Carragher was the best midfield player on the pitch today but Rooney was really good, especially in the second half. If only he had some support at the top end of the pitch. The tactics let us down today, but at least we won.

Sven really needs to take Lampard off the pitch. He had the majority of Englands chances, but was the definate weak link. He skied every ball that came to him, the one shot that was on target lacked any kind of power whatsoever and was never going to beat the goalie.

We have made the quarter finals and will play either Holland or Portugal in the next game. I have every confidence that England's game will improve with the opposition, as is usually the case with England. Bet we go out on penalties at some point though.

I think that we will win the next game. The big game for us will be the one after that, as I suspect we will be playing Brazil, then maybe Argentina in the final?
