Sven really needs to take Lampard off the pitch. He had the majority of Englands chances, but was the definate weak link. He skied every ball that came to him, the one shot that was on target lacked any kind of power whatsoever and was never going to beat the goalie.

lol, you were the person who moaned at me for complaining about Lampards performance after the Paraguay game.

I really think when Neville comes back that it should be Lampard who is dropped and neither of Hargreaves and Carrick.

Beckham is simply bad, IMO. He has no left foot, he can't head very well and he can't run as much as the youngsters do. Also he said 99% of his passes get to their destination, he lied, today he was like 50%. England has enough free kick takers.

Good point on the set peices, Gerrard, Hargreaves and Lampard can all take them very well.

Problem is I can't see Sven dropping them. Hopefully McLaren will have the balls.

I stick by what I said because Lampard is a great player, he is just out of form. It would have been too early to get rid of him from the team in the group stages because his form could have picked up and he was the player who was getting most shots on goal. The problem is that his shooting skills have gone to pot. He still could come good, that's maybe why Sven has kept him in this long.

I think the problem is that both he and Gerrard play a similar game, but Gerrard is the one in form, so Lampard should make way for a more defensive midfielder so that Gerrard can move further up field.

I agee that Carrick would be a good substitute for Lampard, he has played really well. Beckham should be kept in the starting team as well. Even though his form is poor at the moment, his set pieces are a help to the team. He also works really hard for the rest of the team, he is all over the pitch.

Portugal v Holland

What a joke this ref is again, somethings got to be done about all these bookings and sending offs. It's ruining the games, this started out like it was going to be a great game. But then came the ref, throwing cards everywhere and at the moment 9 men Por, 10 men Hol. If it goes to extra-time we'll be down to 7 a side with this ref.

Ugly brutal game by both sides. Portugal got 2 red cards, Holland 2 red cards and in total Ivanov pulled out 16 yellow cards, which is the same as the record (16 yellow cards a game). An exceptional game that ended with 18 players on the field.

Back to football, Miguel did a great job on taking out Robben, which was probably why Holland couldn't win it. Van Persie, on the other hand, was good.

Portugal will play England next round but, unfortunately, they won't have Deco and maybe not C. Ronaldo who got injured early on in the game, and that sucks. On the bright side, I'll get to see Tiago play some more.

Soccer is a beautiful sport, but that My friends was an ugly game between Portugal and Netherland...it was more than ugly....it was FUGLY.
Some cards were warrented, some weren't seemingly, but worse, the referee seemed like he lost control and the players lost their collective cool...

Upside was that game was more exciting than the coma inducing game between England and Ecuador. I threw up like Beckham...it was that ill. But England pulled thru depite playing below expectations AGAIN. I like them based on reputation, but...they aren't playing nifty!

The Neatherlands deserved to lose 1000 x 0 by their behavior on the game. All started when Portugal was attacking and his player felt. After medical assiatance, Neatherlands didnt have fair play. Later, when the player who did the fault wich take out Cristiano Ronaldo of the game make another one and when he saw there was out of game, hit one Portuguese player on the face and after another in the arm. Ridiculous behavior from Neatherlands.

I agree that they weren't victims. But Neatherland's behavior was ridiculous and started the fight and was the one who attracted the attetion of fifa officer to the field. The fifa is there to act when there is no fair play and he was there advising neatherlands.

But still ridiculous the Figo's fault with no ball action and costinha and dado red cards. Portugal was into unfair play action too.

He missed Cocu pushing Deco when he sent Deco off, though.

What a shocker of an ending! The Australians couldn't get a goal in with more men on the field...and the penalty kick by Totti!

The Australians were robbed. I don't think that it should have been a penalty at all, but the Italians are notorious for diving, they probably practice falling on the floor during training.

I am absolutely gutted for the Aussies.
