I'm just glad McCain isn't picking Palwenty, because then I would have been ****** to vote for him. Pawlenty has done some really solid work in MN having balanced the budget and stuck to his guns on some good issues like steps to combat ******* immigration and he is good on 2nd Amendment and C&C.

Agreed outstanding speech.Best I have seen in many years.

Obviously none of us knows for sure whether or not he'll make a good president, if elected. But I'm convinced he's a very intelligent, earnest fellow whose heart's in the right place.... and who might, just maybe, prove a transformative figure in these troubled times. The obstacles are major, and I don't agree with him on all points, but for the most part I think he's on the right track.

I'm not so sure I would go by what your hearing in the media.McCain camp could be just playing around to keep the big announcement secret.I was pulling for Romney lol as I think that would be a terrible pick for McCain.But my ******* who lives in MN was hoping it might be Pawlenty so they could get rid of him.

Your right all we really know now is he is an excellant speaker and as you say the intelligence level is obvious IMO.But as he said in his speech when the choice is the somewhat unknown and the unacceptable you have to go with the somewhat unknown.That is what his campaign is going to really be pushing till the election IMO, that continuation of the republican policys with the election of McCain is unacceptable.

McCain's going to get the holy roller vote no matter what, but if he chooses Huckabee every single undecided voter I know will flee immediately to Obama lol

In a thread I started on what happened since the bridge collapse in Minneapolis it laid out what Pawlenty had done in opposition to doing things to raise taxes to pay for needed repairs.Here is the link to that thread and the original story on what Palwenty had done is response.

Tim Pawlenty's veto of the $6.6 billion transportation spending plan, which raised the gas tax, local sales taxes and vehicle registration fees. The Senate then sacked his transportation commissioner, who had resisted the increased spending and higher taxes.

In June, a new commissioner outlined a $2.5 billion draft bridge improvement plan that would replace 11 major spans over the next decade using the new money. While some applauded in the thread his veto and not being willing to raise taxes, IMO some things must be done and paid for, and fixing crumbling infrastructure is one of them.Pawlenty thought no new taxes was more important than repairs but thankfully the rest of the govt in MN got together and did it without his help.

It has just been announced McCain is going with the female gov of Alaska as his running mate.That is actually a pretty smart choice on his part IMO.He is obviously trying to peel off some of the womens vote from the Dems.Romney,Huckabee,Pawlenty really would have not added anything to his chances I think,she does help probably.McCain is going to try to get some of the disaffected women who Obama will have to try to court and make amends with because he needs them very much in Nov.

I do applaud him for not raising taxes. Still, you have to give him credit on the MN deficit being balanced.

^ I agree.. McCain can no longer say that obama is inexperienced because he got a vp that is less experienced than obama. I also think his plan to get those clinton voters will back fire on him.. I think this basically seals the deal for Barack.

It got me thinking why dont British prime ministers ever give really great speaches, I mean the last primeminister to do so was Churchill and that was 60 years ago. Im sure the way US elections are run has something to do with it, their much bigger more of a spectacle, you wouldnt see Gordon Brown on a huge podium giving such a rousing speech, when you heard Brown talk infront of a large group of people its quite hard to actually stay awake.

Totally agree. American elections are way more engrossing. Can't wait for all the twists and turns, the political theatre, the debates and in 10 weeks time the climax - ELECTION NIGHT!!!

Over here the campaign season only last 3 weeks, it's all very low-budget and we're electing parties rather than individuals. Very very dull, but it works.

It's like a perfect storm with "Gustav" getting ready to slam into New Orleans Monday the same day the republicans were scheduled to start their convention.It will be a great reminder of one of the republicans biggest black eyes which was "Katrina" and the inept croonies they had at Fema who responded so poorly.Remember Bush saying "your doing a heck of a job Brownie".:eek: We will see if they do better this time round.But their convention will now almost be ruined,isn't that just a shame.:rofl:
Plus it will be a reminder of their anti-conservation anti-enviorment,in the pocket of the oil companies,drill everywhere failed policys.These new breed of super storms are directly related to warmer water temperature in the oceans which is being caused by the rise in global temps and the Co2 emmisions.Maybe McCain is better off though ,there was no way he wanted to try to follow the convention the dems had and the amazing speech Obama gave that was watched by 40 million.

I know Broder and he is a smart guy but yes I think the speech Obama gave was one of the best I have seen in a long time,Broder thought Gore's was better,so we just saw it differently.Many conservatives thought Obama gave great speech as well even though they would disagree with all of his proposals.It would have been fun to compare his speech and the dems convention to what the pubs and McCain were going to do.But ****** nature or god if you like is a democrate and says no.:1orglaugh

I just wasn't all that moved by the speech. It wasn't anything impressive to me.


I'm a few miles from the RNC right now. It's fucking crazy here right now. 50k about to march tomorrow against the war.

Well, just like 80% of the rest of the country i'm against that crummy war, but I don't know if I'm going to that crazy ass rally. :dunno:

I was driving around down there yesterday and saw a rally for the legalization of weed. Funny stuff...

Rage throws a free concert in Denver and charges $60 here. Those bastards! :crash:
