While I can't say ...

Broder thought Gore's was better
While I can't say anything negative on Obama's stances, I can very much say I laughed out loud at the airport when Gore started spewing his junk.
I wasn't alone, especially those of us who have been watching Gore for decades.

I like fresh leadership like Obama, it's not quite nearly as tainted.
But after two (2) decades of Gore's political stints, I just found it completely entertaining.

I know this has been spoken off in other threads but no link has and this is really where all this political stuff on the election should be posted IMO.All these threads are hard to keep up with lol.

Palin says 17-year-old daughter is pregnant

I you read the story the "spin" is in full gear that this is not damaging to the pubs. But don't you beleive it, this is a nightmare for McCain and the pubs and I predict she will step aside as VP pick. But eithier way I think with how well the dem convention went, the way the pub convention is being pushed aside by hurricaine Gustav and now this about his VP pick and the way he I'm sure Mccain was caught by total surprise by this has probably sealed his fate in Nov.And I have not been someone who said before Obama would win easily or was guaranteed to win at all. I thought he would be better for the country but was still a long shot ,mainly due to the race issue. But now with all this I can't see McCain winning so that means Obama does win.

McCain Manager: 'This Election is Not About Issues'

"Rick Davis, campaign manager for John McCain's presidential bid, insisted that the presidential race will be decided more over personalities than issues during an interview with Post editors this morning.

"This election is not about issues," said Davis. "This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

Davis added that issues will no doubt play a major role in the decisions undecided voters will make but that they won't ultimately be conclusive. He added that the campaign has "ultimate faith" in the idea that the more voters get to know McCain and Barack Obama, the better the Republican nominee will do."

Guess they think the election being on the issues will not be the best bet for them to win so now are saying we can win in a battle of "cult of personality" with Barak.I want what they are smoking!:D

Or maybe just pointing out that a lot of people are drawn to Obama because of the "cult of personality" that has built up around him.
In reality, that's not far off the mark for a lot of people, or in any election for that matter.

I would not argue with that assesment at all Prof.To be honest I never got it really, but he is a bonafide phenomenom attracting unheard of crowds and excitement. That the McCain campaign guy points that out is something they have tried to do for a while with calling him a celebrity and all that. The thing I think he said that McCain will win the personality battle and gain the independents that way was what I think is probably a long shot for them. They need to try to say personality is not a reason to elect someone if they can, they are not winning on whose got the personality and charism at least by what we have seen how people react to the two so far.

Jewish voters may be wary of Palin

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13098.html

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Barack Obama has struggled for 18 months to lock down the support of a traditionally Democratic group, Jewish voters.

In the past week, John McCain may have helped Obama with his Jewish problem by choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate."

An illustration of that gap came just two weeks ago, when Palin’s church, the Wasilla Bible Church, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus.

Palin’s pastor, Larry Kroon, introduced Brickner on Aug. 17, according to a transcript of the sermon on the church’s website.

“He’s a leader of Jews for Jesus, a ministry that is out on the leading edge in a pressing, demanding area of witnessing and evangelism,” Kroon said.

Brickner then explained that Jesus and his disciples were themselves Jewish.

“The Jewish community, in particular, has a difficult time understanding this reality,” he said.
Brickner’s mission has drawn wide criticism from the organized Jewish community, and the Anti-Defamation League accused them in a report of “targeting Jews for conversion with subterfuge and deception.”

Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity.

"Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It's very real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can't miss it."

Palin was in church that day, Kroon said, though he cautioned against attributing Brickner’s views to her.

The executive director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, Ira Forman, cited the “cultural distance” between Palin and almost all American Jews.

“She’s totally out of step with the American Jewish community,” he said. “She is against reproductive freedom – even against abortion in the case of rape and incest. She has said that climate change is not man-made. She has said that she would favor teaching creationism in the schools. These are all way, way, way outside the mainstream.”

Huffington Post on Tuesday posted portions of Palin speaking at her former church, a politically conservative Assemblies of God congregation, in which she suggested that an Alaska pipeline plan reflects God’s will.

A spokesman for McCain and Palin, Michael Goldfarb, dismissed the notion that Palin would bring a Jewish problem.

“If this is going to be about who was at church on the day of which sermon, that’s not going to be an argument that the Obama campaign is going to win,” he said, a reference to Obama’s controversial former pastor, Jeremiah Wright."

Here is the most controversial thing the guest speaker who is a member of "Jews for Jesus" said.

"Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity."

While I agree it's not fair to assume Palin supports what was said at her church,I wonder will she be made to to comment on it as Obama was?
And no doubt the church she belongs to sounds every bit as controversial as Obama's.

Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

I watching McCain's speech right now and well it sucks! Obama is a way more better speaker. McCain looks like he is standing behind a blue screen and rambling about "the baby boomers".

Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

I understand that obama was interviewed / featured on the "bull oh, really" program this evening. It is also my understanding that this interview is to be carried over three separate programs.

Is this designed to boost the popularity of the both of them ?

I think so.

Slick ! Real Slick! you two.

McCain gave his speech without a flag pin on his jacket lapel!! He most not love his country.

Maybe he couldn't reach up into his jacket pocket to get it.:dunno:

aside - I will not be electing obama and I may not vote for mccane
With that out of the way, do you guys really get off in the personal attacking of the most left leaning republican member of the senate ? I can only conclude that you thought that it was an effective speech. I didn't see nor hear it.

I just found out that McCain has an adopted daughter from India. At first I thought maybe Cindy had an affair with a black guy.

Let me ask - Why obama ? cuzz the rolling stone said so ?
Let's hear where your influences are. They're certainly not out of thin air .

None of the Republican speechers last night wore a flag pin either. Sarah Palin didn't. She wore an Alaskan flag pin (I think) though I did at first think it was Libya's flag--there was this giant star in the center on a white background...

I agree with benDutta...the very end of the speech sounded like a "CALL TO ARMS" and it was VEEEERY Hitler-like.."Stand Up!" "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT FOR YOUR COUNTRY!"

Sorry..that sounds very warmonger/propaganda...

I didn't hear anything NEW in the speech. Just same 'ol same 'ol...I think after the 9th speech, I get that McCain suffered a lot in the Hanoi Hilton. I get it already...enough, please. It's getting to the point that if you don't have POW experience...then you don't have "real Military experience":(

Obama and Biden have some work to do just to bring McCain/Palin "out of the battlefield" and back to focus on "issues" and "solutions" There was hardly anything about the economy/unemployment (just more talk about unleashing the enterpreneurial spirit of America!)....it sounds like McCain/Palin are eager to jump in a tank and go smash stuff..

Sounds to me like that's an argument neither of them can win.
