Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

Obama has zero knowledge about economics and geostrategy so I wouldn't make big hopes of him winning the presidency. Do you honestly think Germans like Obama and leftists in general???? Obama wants to be a second Kennedy that is for sure.

Actually, Obama is stronger than McCain when it comes to economics. At least from an average middle class Americans point of view. See my previous post and click the link to educate yourself.

Well at least Obama didn't say he knew very little about economics like McCain did. Most pundits give Obama the edge over McCain on the economy.

Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

Germans prefer American Democrats. The most recent Republican Prez we liked was Eisenhower.

what about ronald reagan? He is the one who really made America strong in the 80's.

Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

What are McCain's strengths, anyway? He's a Washington Insider who has flipflopped on every issue which had earned him the moniker "The Maverick" in the first place. He married a rich woman (which Kerry did). He seems to believe that he's "owed the presidency" because of his "great war record" a belief which Bob Dole also had but wasn't enough to capture the presidency. He authored 1 piece of legislation "McCain/Feingold" which ushered in Jack Abramoff and the K Street Corruption Machine (under the guise of "cleaning up Washington") he's stated publically that he is not strong on Economics and has no problem endlessly spending American Treasure to rebuild 2 countries in the Middle East (Iraq/Afghan) and isn't against having troops in that area for 100 years, "if that's what it takes"...

I think McCain is pretty much good at ruining government and not much else...he's another deficit exploder dressed up as a "budget hawk"....

Nah. This is not the kind of president we need now or ever....

After reading this , I get these ugly and regrettable flashbacks of when I was nailed for my first and last DWI :o :D 40 hours of "community service" on weekends.
What is he talking about with all of this "service" nonsense ? No . . no thank you . . I'm not interested in his new perfect socialist utopia. You see, it doesn't bother me to live in an ambiance where people have different (diverse) levels of aptitude, income and personal interests, OK ? So just butt out of my life. I control my destiny, not you, not the collectivist government and not society ! . . I DO ! My grandmother taught me never to envy the rich or pity the poor, BTW. F.U. !

[ . . and by the time I graduated from college, I was possessed with a crazy idea - that I would work at a grassroots level to bring about change."
Was ?

I wrote letters to every organization in the country I could think of. And one day, a small group of churches on the South Side of Chicago offered me a job working to help neighborhoods that had been devastated by steel plant closings. My mother and grandparents wanted me to go to law school. My friends were applying to jobs on Wall Street. Meanwhile, this organization offered me $12,000 a year plus $2,000 for an old, beat-up car. And I said yes.

Would he mind sharing some of the content of these letters ?

This is so typical of this guy, with all of his vagaries, ambiguities and embellishments, none of this is verifiable ! "small group of churches offered you what ? What could he possibly do to "help neighborhoods "devastated" by steel plant closings" ? he'd be another mouth to feed ! Storms, fires and earthquakes cause devastation what is he talking about ? Did he walk around to help pick up the pieces after this most catastrophic explosion of a steel plant closing ?

And what's all this about his special civilian police / security force that he speaks of ? Sounds almost like the SS ! Could he elaborate on this a bit ?

What is he going to do with those who resist and perhaps, wish not to "serve" in his hopeful and completely naive plan for America's future? :thefinger

Obama is the int'l #1 choice of despots, world wide. Yes, those very despicable tyrants who wish America harm and death, regardless of whoever the president may be. I guess they figure that they'd get something out of the deal in the end.

I will not be voting for any of these bums. Just disc this crop under and maybe hope that mr wonderful gets elected and serves a single term. Get it the hell over with already.
What a time to increase the size of more incompetent govt. ! This makes it all the more likely that he will not be a two termer. It's amazing the loyalty I have seen displayed toward this mystic. It's disturbing how easily many of the people can become captured by the powers of suggestion, persona and media !
Really Disturbing !

Since it seems to be trash daily on Obama with his background. Has anyone mentioned the "Keating 5" and "McCain?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

He was not charged, but quite poor judgement... He got very lucky!

I actually mentioned it but only breifly in regard to the current financial problems with banks and mortgage houses.I said this is reminiscent to the whole S & L crisis which was what the Keating 5 scandle which Mccain was heavily involved in was about.

In newer news on McCain he has flip-flopped again moving to the right. This time its on affirmative action.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/07/28/politics/main4299486.shtml

"McCain Backs Ariz. Affirmative Action Ban"

"(AP) Presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain said Sunday that he supports a proposed ballot initiative in his home state that would prohibit affirmative action policies from state and local governments. A decade ago, he called a similar effort "divisive."

McCain transcript

"Every so often in our nation's capital, we relearn this lesson when the excesses of traders and speculators, and the poor planning of politicians, catches up with them, and the troubles spread far beyond Wall Street and Washington. This has happened in recent months, at great cost to workers, small businesses, families, and homeowners across our nation. And calling these serious problems a "correction" in the market, or a "cycle" of the economy, doesn't make their situation any better, their jobs and homes any safer, their lives any easier."

Both candidates play up the support for the down and out factory worker..

Also the #1 choice for law abiding people from many other countries.

Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

Whether you like McCain or Obama, US policy in Iraq is failing when all 5 suicide-bombers are women.

When Iraqi women are willing to be suicide-bombers, the policy of US is done !

Because you are going to see a young boy less than 12 years old going to kill the American GI as a suicide-bomber.

You think you would still vote for McCain/Bush, hell NO !

I don't want another life to be wasted like that ! Let's get out in 2 years !

Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

^^^It appears the Surge didn't work afterall...notice McCain has shifted away from standing in grocery stores and demanding that Obama say the surge worked...

We did not send enough "Surge Troops" to protect and monitor every Iraqi and every situation in that country. Therefore, the Surge did not "work" longterm. It only tempered violence temporarily...A "proper" Surge would've gotten us to the 300,000 troops General Shinseki mentioned that we needed way back in 2002 as President Warmonger demanded this war....

Re: Barack McCain or John Obama?

I don't think a surge at the beginning would have helped. I think its been a cop out for my fellow Dems (HRC, Kerry, Edwards, etc) to claim that voting for the war was ok and it was the poor planning and management of the administration that failed. There was no way that our troops were going to be seen as liberators and not an occupying force.

It was completely inevitable that sectarian violence was going to break out. The invasion of Iraq was going to create winners and losers no matter what. Winners were going to be Iran, the Bush/Cheney re-election, Halliburton, Al-Qaeda recruiters, Bin-Laden, Oil Companies, Ahmed Chalabi, etc.

Neither ...

These guys aren't into leadership, they are into saying what you want to hear. Gets old. Especially for a realist like myself.

- Dems and 'Pubs fucked our environmental policy for 30 years, and aren't moving forward nearly enough (some are moving backwards, like Reid and Obama)

- Dems and 'Pubs increased spending for 30 years (sans 4 years under 'Pub Congress and Clinton, which was short-lived from 1995-1998)

- Dems and 'Pubs have overseen the "fake wealth" in the Stock boom, then the Real Estate boom, now the Commodities non-sense (don't get me started)

- Dems and 'Pubs have laden every damn law, policy and trade agreement with "special interest / money-in-our-pocket" non-sense

NAFTA is my personal favorite for those that haven't bothered to read it.
I did, and instantly understood what Ross Perot was trying to tell us.
"Ross Perot is mean" -- realists tend to be, especially when people lie their asses off (like Gore did in the NAFTA debate with him).

We're fucked. We've been fucked for a good 15 years now, and definitely been on the wrong track for 30 years.

The fact that Electrical Engineers (EEs) have been blockaded from solving our power and energy issues for the last 30 years by a minority of the public that takes advantage of the majority ignorance is something we won't solve.
The US' energy needs are at the heart of its problem, and no one wants to tackle that in any feasible way, but only in political ones.

Again, we're fucked.
