Defeat for Dan Evans leaves Britain and Lithuania level

Dan Evans lost a thrilling five-set match against Ricardas Berankis to leave Britain's Davis Cup tie against Lithuania poised at 1-1 after day one.

A crucial win is needed here to get back to the world group with Ward making a great winning in straight sets but Evans losing in five to Berankis leaves the tie well poised for the upcoming doubles.

Heather Watson has continued her impressive form at the Tangipahoa Tennis Classic in Hammond, USA with a 6-4 6-4 win over the no.5 seed Monique Adamczak (AUS).

Following on from her defeat of the world no.177 Nicole Vaidisova in the opening round, the British Junior no.1 toppled another higher seeded player in the form of the no.149 to set up another tricky contest against the no.3 seed Shuai Zhang (CHN)

Watson is joined in the quarter-finals by Naomi Broady after her 6-3 2-6 6-4 victory over Kimberley Couts (USA). Broady, who like Watson, came through two rounds of qualifying to make the main draw, now takes on fellow qualifier Jamie Hampton (USA) with the winner meeting either the no.6 seed Kurumi Nara of Japan or Yi-Miao Zhou (CHN) who knocked out the no.2 seed Darya Kustova (BLR).

The pair also enjoyed doubles success in America, reaching the semi-finals where they play the American duo of Christina Fusano and Courtney Nagle. The Brits knocked out the no.2 seeds Jing-Jing Lu and Sheng-Nan Sun from China 6-3 4-6 [10-8] to reach the semis.

Mel South and Georgie Stoop join Watson and Broady in the other doubles semi-final match against the Chinese pair Yi-Fan Xu and Yi-Miao Zhou. This after the pair knocked out the no.1 seeds Darya Kustova and Anastasia Yakimova (both BLR) 6-2 5-7 [10-7].

Good sign atm with the younger female tennis players who are doing well in the states, coming on the back of Baltacha's recent rise in the rankings. Certainly Watson beating the likes of Vaidisova and Adamczak and enjoying doubles success bodes well for the future while it's good to see Broady matching her there atm and South/Stoop doing well in the doubles too.

Wow, nowadays German tennis is a disgrace to the once glorious days. And since we will win vs Slovakia, maybe we're gonna play each other...:nanner:

France won in doubles and defeat Germany 3-0

no surprises there either.

now it would face Spain/Switzerland (currently 2-1, with little chances for the Swiss, even if Wawrinka win tomorrow) in the QF.

Team GB move 2-1 up ahead of Lithuania

Lithuania wins 3-2.
Britain hosts Turkey now to avoid relegation to Tier IV.

My guesses were quite good, save for Swe-Arg and Aus-Tpe.

Next stop Indian Wells. The Williamses and Dinara are absent. Dinara is still struggling with her back injury. :( - no draws yet.

First I keep my fingers crossed for Daniela Hantuchova tonight. She could win her first title in two and a half years. :lovecoupl

where does the USa stand?

they just lose against Serbia. Isner fought hard against Nole, push him to 5 tight sets, but crack in the end, sadly i must say. I wanted USA to win.

now the QF:

Spain-France (with a healthy Nadal and Verdasco, they're favorites)
Russia-Argentina (Del Potro/Nalbandian vs Kolya/Youzhny!! awesome match-up! could go either way)
Croatia-Serbia (Dr. Ivo and Cilic are too much for Nole. Serbia)
Czech-Chile (probably) (Berdych and the Worm are too much for Gonzo. Czech)

Baltacha qualified for the main draw of India Wells in the womens event where she'll face Alexa Glatch in the first round while Anne Keothavong will face Chakvetadze in her first round match. All pretty winnable particularly Bally's but they'll be faced with tough second round draws if they get through tho. Andy Murray is seeded fourth in the men's event and has a bye in the first round. He will meet either Robbie Ginepri or Andreas Seppi in the second round.

It wasn't a massive surprise with Murray not involved and Bogdanovic not picked. Looks like there is going to be a big shake-up on the LTA after this.

The most disturbing thing is that Turkey has a fairly good player now (Marsel Ilhan, ATP rank 121). He alone could kick Britain into oblivion if they choose to field another team like that again.
