Michigan will rebound eventually. It is way too good of a program for that not to happen. I worry that Rodriguez might be a mistake but the Wolverines will rise again regardless. Major alumni base, great recruiting potential. They'll be back....sooner than later.

I thought the same thing about Dexy's Midnight Runners.

And remember Nebraska? Man... I wish they were good again. As a Sooner fan I want to see the ol' Oklahoma vs Nebraska rivalry. It hasn't been the same since the 80's(I was way too young).

T-rock......why do you keep going there on this Randy Shannon do-or-die stuff? My buds in S. FL tell me it's not even a possibility. Everyone in Coral Gables is thrilled with his recruiting classes the past 2 years and he is in absolutely no danger of losing his job this year (unless the 'Canes just tank it). With that stud defense they have against a less-than-stellar ACC schedule, that ain't likely. Their first four games are murder but after that they should be able to contend for sure. There is no chatter at all in S. FL about this being a make or break year for Shannon. Even if they did let him go, I doubt that Gruden would be the choice to replace him.

Where are you getting this information or is it just some wild-ass fearless prognostication on your behalf???

Jagz, I speak from experience. I have seen situations like this many times before. I'll use my Trojans as an example here. When we fired John Robinson after his second stint at SC was nothing but mediocre, we brought in a highly credentialed assistant, Paul Hackett. It took us 3 years of "happy recruiting" before we realized we had hired the wrong guy.

What, exactly has Randy Shannon accomplished to NOT be on the hot seat? He has piled up embarrassing loss after embarrassingly loss. Miami is THE U, not Wannabe State. I don't know of any fan in today's college environment that would be happy with a program as prestigious as Miami that has done nothing on the field thus far.

Perhaps Randy Shannon should've pursued a lesser profile coaching job somewhere to "cut his teeth." Miami, USC, Texas, Florida State, Ohio State are not jobs where you really can "learn on the fly."

Not everyone is cut out to be a head coach. Ed Orgeron might be the best college recruiter/talent evaluator & DLine coach in America...but he's a lousy head coach. He flopped at Ole Miss and doesn't know shit about Offense. Ole Miss better hope Houston Nutt can maintain the recruiting level that Ed Orgeron brought there or else Ole Miss will be back on the bottom rung of the SEC.

The reason that Washington and Colorado have sunk down to squalor is the rise of USC. Washington and Colorado can no longer recruit the elite California prospects like the could in the 90s, when USC was shit. Pete Carroll not only locks up the elite California talent but he goes into Washington (Taylor Mays) and Colorado (LenDale White, Jeff Byers) for these states' best players....

Exactly.

A couple other sources of talent for USC are Hawaii and Latinos. For some reason, USC always gets the pick of the litter out of Hawaii. Generally first generation Latino immigrants prefer soccer and baseball, but their children become more “Americanized” and like football. This creates a huge talent pool that the Trojans dominate. If you look at the Trojan rosters the last several years, you see many more Hispanic names than you did 25 years ago.

Shannon only has 2 recruiting classes under his belt. The teams he has coached the past 2 years are Coker's players, not his. UM showed similar patience when Butch Davis was brought in following Erickson's departure and it paid off. They'll show similar patience with Shannon. As long as progress is steady, they'll stay the course. If they start to go backwards....well, that's a different story but so far that hasn't happened. Time will tell.

Coaches Poll out! Highlights: Ohio State underrated. Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Alabama overrated.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm

Ohio St. underrated? Come on! Everyone knows what Ohio St. and the rest of the Big Ten does once they arrive to the Championship game. How many times in a row did the Buckeyes get their ass kicked in the big game?

And I don't think OSU could beat ANY of the five teams you mentioned as being overrated.

Dude, it was tongue in cheek. I listed everyone ahead of OSU in the polls as “overrated”. I thought that was pretty obvious.

But to answer your question, the Buckeyes are 4-3 in BCS games (including giving up a last minute touchdown to Texas to loose in the Fiesta Bowl) and 1-2 in National Championship games. Oklahoma has more BCS losses than anybody including their last 5.

Agreed. Oklahoma has blown it many of times as well.

Why am I always reminded of this? It's like we're the Buffalo Bills of college football. But, I guess it better than not getting to the big games. Think about it... Oklahoma could have been the most dominant football team we've seen in a very long time. Now... we're the biggest chokers!

You are reminded of this because I have to throw the Sooner's under the bus to deflect negativity towards the Buckeyes...................sorry dude.

It's ok, I understand. I also wonder why people give Ohio State such a hard time. I guess we got a lot to prove this season.

The Big 10 is underrated! Come on, just last year Iowa beat Florida international, Penn St beat Oregon St and coastal Carolina, Wisconsin beat Cal poly, and Michigan beat Miami of Ohio.
