2009-2010 NCAA Basketball

Your Buckeyes won't be. :thefinger:hatsoff:

Actually they have a pretty good chance to be good this year even though they have had 5 one and done's in the last 3 years.

Also a very strong non conference schedule with games against North Carolina, West Virginia, Florida St, Eastern Michigan, Butler, Cal, and Syracuse.

Wow - it's only preseason B-ball for Michigan St. and they've already been hit with the injury bug; Raymar Morgan with a sprained ankle, Chris Allen with a groin injury, Delvon Roe with a mild concussion, and Korie Lucious is still recovering from a broken foot.

Big Ten hoops has looked good tonight. MSU overcame a sluggish first 10 minutes of the game and turned it into a blowout; I thought Purdue, Minnesota, and Illinois looked solid, too. Granted, these were just cupcake games these teams played tonight, but I certainly expect bigger things to come out of the Big Ten later this season.

It was really discouraging to hear about Northwestern star Kevin Coble sustaining a possible season-ending injury - the Wildcats IMO had a really good shot of making it to the Big Dance with the star forward entering his senior season.

Entertaining college hoops games from yesterday and today - UCLA getting upset at home; Kentucky avoiding an upset, and Michigan St. is going up against a good Gonzaga squad at the Brez tonight.

Paradise Jam champions, baby! Boilermakers beat a very tough Volunteer team tonight 73-72. This was a great game to watch. Neither team led by more than six points all night long and it came down to the last play. Both teams played extremely well and appeared to be evenly matched. I was curious to see how well we'd play against stiff competition, and I came away impressed. Even with our best player JaJuan Johnson in foul trouble all night long, the team played just well enough to win. What a great way to start the season! Boiler Up!

Great game by the Boilers indeed, especially when starting PG Lewis Jackson is still out with a foot injury. The only thing that mind-boggles me from that game was how Tennessee handled the last possession of the game - they should've attempted a field goal much earlier in the final seconds of the game.

How about Iowa making a legit game against Texas? Not sure if the Hawkeyes can pull the upset, but if they can at least make this a close game to the finish, it'll defintely put some positive vibes for the "life-support" hooked Iowa program.

Pretty good game on ESPN. Wisconsin beats Duke and the Big 10 wins the ACC-Big 10 challenge for the first time ever.

My Sooners also won, 67-47 over Arkansas. But we sit 5-3. :(

Kansas is still rolling.

Don't sleep on the Badgers this year - NEVER count out a Bo Ryan coached team.

Nice showing by the Big 10 conference against the ACC - I still expect that league to be very strong by the end of the regular season.

Big10 News Ya Can Use!!

--#4 Kentucky manhandles once scary but now not-so-scary Indiana 90-73. If only Bobby Knight could be there to spank Calbert Cheaney!! The WCs punished the Hoo's lackluster "Sit On It 'Round Five" D with 23 points from Fresh phenom Eric Bledsoe, and junior forward Patrick Patterson added 19 with 11 boards. At the press conference, Indy coach Tom Crean was overheard bumming a cigarette. Crean reportedly quit smoking in 1983.
--The highly-vaunted #13 Buckeyes were Evan-less, and thusly thwarted by # 22 Butler 74-66. Da Dawgs used tight defense, perseverance and soph Gordon Hayward outside the arc to nip the boys in scarlet. Nut coach Thad Motta was all praises when commenting about the Buts, saying, "Even if Evan had played, I still think we would have faced a tough Butler squad!" Way to tiptoe, Bojangles!
--#20 Wisconsin badgered the usually-reliable-but-down-this-season Marquette Golden Eagles 72-63 behind junior forward Jon Leuer's 24-12 game. One bright spot for the Birds was senior forward Lazar Hayward's 21-12 performance, which Marq coach Buzz Williams described as "phenomenally aggressive" and "full of bold taste." Of course, Buzz was buzzed on Bud at the time.
--How do the Boilermakers always manage to creep into the Top 10 in the middle of darkness, under the wire, while prison guards are watching? Why, it's by defeating up-and-coming teams like the Tide, 73-65, that's how! Now, mind you, this was in front of a hostile 'Bama crowd, and still Robbie Hummel scored 23 and the Tide was frustrated and scoreless over the final nine minutes. Hail the Purdue mighty D !! Anyway, Purdue coach Matt Painter could not be reached for comment, as he is preparing his game plan for upcoming powerhouse opponents Ball State and SIU Edwardsville.

Defintely give credit to Butler on that hard fought game against the Bucks. OSU defintely needs Evan Turner back ASAP if they want to stay afloat in the Big Ten this year.

It's been an up and down year for the mid-majors this season; Butler ranked, Creighton and Siena have been underachieving so far, Northen Iowa is on a good roll, and the West Coast Conference started off great, but have recently been tagged with bad non-conference losses lately.

Interesting games on tap this weekend:
#2 Texas vs #10 North Carolina @ Cowboys Stadium
#7 Duke vs #15 Gonzaga @ Madison Square Garden
Michigan @ #1 Kansas
Xavier @ #17 Butler

My upset pick of this weekend: Wichita State over #20 Texas Tech

If you haven't heard already, Bobby Knight spoke at an IU fundraiser and called out Kentucky coach John Calipari, saying these words:

"We've gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking and that's why I'm glad I'm not coaching; you see we've got a coach at Kentucky who put two schools on probation and he's still coaching. I really don't understand that."

If Calipari coaches your school, you'll love him; otherwise, you'll hate him.

That's what the $30 million Kentucky spent on Calipari has brought the school - a coach who will lure lots of great recruits, win countless big games, and hang banners while people ask whether Kentucky really expects those banners to remain after an inevitable NCAA investigation. Then Kentucky fans will yell about how Calipari wasn't tied to anything. Then everybody will roll their eyes and laugh. And around and around we go.

^
Calipari couldn't hack it in the NBA. He knows how to trash a college athletic department. Enjoy the ride Kentucky...:hatsoff:

What's with the Pac 10 this year? I've seen bits of games from Washington, ucla, USC and cal and only Washington looked like it could make it the Sweet16. Could the Pac 10 only get 2 or 3 teams into the Tourney??? Yikes....

The Pac 10 doesn't have a prayer this year, mainly due to the recruiting scandal @ USC with Tim Floyd plus the lack of recruiting @ UCLA; it's at best an average hoops conference this year, and that's just being generous.

I'm a USC homer--sorry, SC Hoops is usually on the fringe of the Pac10 race. No, we can't blame SC for the entire Pac10 meltdown this year. It is shocking that ucla's recruiting was so thin...as it turns out. They are a joke this year. Worse than SC!

Only Wazzu has turned out to be better than advertised...cal and Oregon really aren't doing much...

At this point, with only a few games left before conference season begins, it's hard to see how the Pac10 will make an honest case for 3 teams...max. :dunno:
