McClaren is a mini Sven. Be prepared for more of the same. I have said for the past 4 years England would never wina major championship with Sven in charge. Looks like I was proved correct.

Well first I said it ever since they appointed him over 5 years ago.

McClaren is nothing like Sven, take Boro's UEFA cup run last season. When things was going wrong and his team was losing. He made substitutions that actually changed the game, this by making bold sub's and changing the formation and tactics with it too. This is something Sven has never done in 5 years, example of McClaren was the Trinidad and Tabago game. England was playing poorly and not looking like scoring, McClaren talked Sven into putting two attacking wingers on. This then changed the formation from 4-4-2 to 4-2-4 and they scored 2 goals to win the match. So how is he like Sven again ?

Being number 2 to someone is nothing like been in charge. You have to work to their rules and tactics, most of the time. I still say McClaren wasn't my choice, but he's got the job now, so lets see how he does before we start slagging him off!

I know and I'm so depressed :)weeping: )....

McClaren sat alongside Sven when he made the (very odd) decision to give Theo Walcott a German holiday.
McClaren also sat alongside Sven during all his decisions throughout this World Cup.

I hope I'm wrong about McClaren, but ultimately I fear an opportunity to rebuild will be lost.
Instead, journeyman players will be hyped up to the heavens (again), the Premiership will be hyped as the best in Europe (again), when it is actually one of the best paid.

To quote from Chris Waddle, on the BBC website:
"We haven't played well, we had years to prepare and nothing's changed, we are a quarter-final team and no more".

i think the final will be France-Germany. Great play by Zidane this evening again, and to think he is 34 he still footballs like a master.

36 and yep Im feelin it too. hes nothing short of his 98 days and that can only mean one thing

I think with Ronaldo confirming the rumours about his desire to move to Madrid and his behaviour today he will probably leave Man United now. Despite accepting that Rooney was stupid, I do hope he lands one on Ronaldo before he leaves.

Ronaldo was actually brilliant today but this will never be remembered now by some because of his stupid behaviour trying to get a club team mate and supposed friend sent off.

As for England they have gone out to the first decent side they have faced and have been desperately poor. Svens decision making has been poor, however I think some of the blame has to go on to the players as well. Lampard has just been shocking and Beckham hasn't been much better either. All our best players apart from Joe Cole have been defensive one's - Ferdinand and Hargreaves in particular.

As for France vs Brazil, Zidane.....WOW!!!

I actually would like them to win now so that he can win another World cup.

What has a 40-year-old man NEVER seen?

England winning any major tournament!!!!!!

ZIZOU is the master. He will lift the cup and then disappear into the sunset, retiring from public life.He deserves to be a football legend, alongside Puskas,Pele,Cruyff,Beckenbauer and Maradona, the kind of player that men will be telling stories about,to their **** and grand ****.
And now? It's Euro 2000 all over again:France vs Portugal,Italy vs Host country. It's a bit déjà vu,don't you think?

True. Just to see this man play two more games is an absolute pleasure.

Ronaldo was brilliant - were you watching the same game as me. Ronaldo was ineffective for large parts of the game. Spent the whol ematch diving around trying to win free kicks and get other players sent off.
The reaction to Rooney incident. He thought his teammate had been stamped on so he tried to defend his teammate.
If Rooney hadn't then shoved him he would have got a yellow instead of the red he picked up.

If you think Ronaldo didn't play well you are deluded imo. He's an absolute cnut but he was excellent today. His running with the ball at his feet caused us all kinds of problems.

As I've said all along dont underestimate the Portugues, they were my pick all along, no matter what they do from here on they have impressed me and played great..Final 4..way to go guys..great team and hopefully they can go all the way...PORT-U-GAL...PORT-U-GAL...

Deluded I may be but I thought when on right wing A. Cole had him in his back pocket. On the left hand side he was better and did have sucess against Neville.

Gentlemen, I am happy today. I've seen football (or soccer, whatever), not just an Adidas TV spot.

You're right, man, today is Zizou's day.

Vive Le France

Being over 40, I'm old enough to (dimly) recall a certain day in 1966, which gives me the excuse to add the following pic.....

Oh well, Que Será, Será.....come on Les Bleus and wipe that smile off a certain C Ronaldo!!!

BTW:

Beckham resigns as England captain

David Beckham resigned today as England captain following the team's quarter-final defeat to Portugal in the World Cup.

Reading out a prepared statement, Beckham said: "Having been captain for 58 of my 95 caps I feel the time is right to pass on the armband as we enter a new era under Steve McLaren. I want to stress that I wish to continue playing for England. I came to this decision some time ago but hoped to announce it on the back of a successful World Cup."

He added that "our performance in this World Cup has not been good enough and all the players are hurt by that more than people realise." He thanked all his England managers and the fans, and said: "I am extremely proud to have worn the armband and been captain of England."

That's 1 plus for England. Beckham only resigned the captaincy because he knows he shouldn't even be getting a game.

Ronaldo got Rooney sent off to make his position at Man United untenable so he can get his move to Madrid - quite intelligent if you ask me.

Finally Brazil is out. They deserved it with their boring play on this tournament. It can't go on forever that way.

Ronaldo denies he got Rooney sent off
1 July 2006 by AFP

Cristiano Ronaldo denied Saturday he got Wayne Rooney sent off in an incident that put his Manchester United colleague among an infamous group of England players to see red in the FIFA World Cup™.

Rooney let his fiery temperament get the better of him just when he needed to keep his cool, stamping on Ricardo Carvalho in the 62nd minute with the quarter-final against Portugal poised at 0-0.

He made the matter worse by shoving Ronaldo after the Portuguese winger waded in to protest with the referee.

A stunned Rooney, who joined David Beckham and Ray Wilkins as the only England players ever to be sent off at the finals, was eventually led off fuming.

Beckham was given his marching orders against Argentina in the second-round clash in 1998 by Danish referee Kim Milton Neilsen, while Wilkins was sent off against Morocco in the 1986 finals.

Down to 10 men, England battled on but lost on penalties with Ronaldo hammering the final nail into their coffin by converting the match-winning spot kick.

Ronaldo denied though that he encouraged the referee to give Rooney his marching orders.

"People will say that the referee gave the red card because I spoke with him. This is not true. I spoke with him to say it was a foul, but I only said it was a foul, not a red card," said Ronaldo.

"I think the English press will say Rooney was sent off because of me but it is not true."

Ronaldo was seen winking at his bench after the incident but refused to comment on why.

Gary Neville, who is Rooney and Ronaldo's captain at United, said the England striker was heartbroken but would get over it.

"He is a colleague at club and international level and we hope the sending-off won't be as bad as it looks," he said.

"I know Wayne is a strong character and whatever comes of it, and he is heartbroken, there will be people around him who will have been through it all before.

"But tonight is not about about Wayne Rooney being sent off, it's about England being out of the World Cup."

It was a deja vu moment for England.

They were leading 1-0 in their Euro 2004 quarter-final against bogey team Portugal when Rooney departed with a broken metatarsal, a game-turning injury in a match also lost on penalties.

Before the game Rooney had declared himself ready for anything Portugal's tough-tackling defence could throw at him, but it was the volatile 20-year-old who lost his head, plunging his teammates into crisis.

His dismissal came just as England were taking control of the match as they attempted to reach their first FIFA World Cup semi-final since 1990, and barely 10 minutes after a tearful Beckham went off injured.

In response, Sven-Goran Eriksson took off Joe Cole and replaced him with Peter Crouch, with little other choice.

With Michael Owen out injured, the only other striker he had was 17-year-old Theo Walcott who has never played a Premiership game let alone a stormy FIFA World Cup quarter-final.

Rooney has been a marked man since returning from injury to boost what had been England's flagging campaign, and had been targeted in the three matches he has played in the tournament.

The FIFA World Cup has already had a taste of his temperament.

When he was substituted in the 2-2 draw with Sweden, he greeted the move with a spectacular touchline tantrum.

Rooney was replaced by Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and was far from happy, hitting the dug-out roof and throwing his boots to the ground at the premature end to his first start since breaking his foot in April

i hope that shitstirring ladyboy  Cristiano Ronaldo doesn`t come back to england to play for man utd i blame him for Wayne Rooney sending off

C. Ronaldo did nothing wrong. He seen his mate get stood on and he went to try and get what he seen as justice. From the angle I seen at first I thought the same as the ref. The replay made me have a less harsh view of the incident. Rooney walked because he shoved Ronaldo and started mouthing off, thus eliminating any doubt the ref had on whether the stamp was intentional.
