I'm sure that all England fans out there can sympathise with Argentina (forget about the Falklands for a bit guys). Going out on penalties is probably the worst thing that can happen during the World Cup, after all England have been there on numerous occasions and I have been gutted every time.

Saying that there is no excuse for being a bad loser. The Argentinians obviously don't know about the "stiff upper lip". It was a disgrace. They all need a good slap as far as I'm concerned, preferably with a wet fish round the face.

That's my :2 cents:

England, please win from Portugal, the Portuguese deserve a punishment after being so unsportive against Holland. i support England and Brazil at this championship.

Germany will defeat England in the final 4-2, thanks to a dodgy goal given by a linesman. Any Russian officials left?

In all seriousness, Germany have been the best team at this tournament, Argentina secnd best. Scrap afterwards ws brilliant. let them go at it.

I actually think Portugal will win the cup now.

Dunno why, but I think England will beat Portugal....

Woohoo! :nanner:

Lehmann finally got the opportunity to show his skills for the first time in this tournament. Great job, Jens!

Go, Germany!

FIFA probe after Argentines lose game . . and the plot

FIFA's disciplinary committee are set to investigate the scenes of violence which marred Germany's quarter-final victory over Argentina last night.

At least one German player was left lying on the grass after being kicked while there was also widespread punching and pushing following the end of the quarter-final.

Relations had soured during the shoot-out itself and spilled over at the end as players and officials from both sides clashed and FIFA should confirm today that it will investigate.

German midfielder Torsten Frings condemned Argentina's behaviour after the final spot-kick. "It was typical Argentinean," he said. "They are bad losers and the pictures just show it. They completely lost their minds. We tried to calm them down but I just saw them being all over [German defender] Per Mertesacker.

"It just shows they are bad sports and are badly behaved. I hope their players get suspended."

Argentina's Leandro Cufre, an unused substitute, was shown the red card by the referee for his part in the melee after he was seen kicking Mertesacker. "They are no choirboys, that's for sure," said Mertesacker ruefully. "One of their players attacked me even though I did not do anything, and he got the red card. I have three or four red marks on my thigh and then he kicked me again in the groin.

"I cannot understand that it turned into so much aggression. He behaved very unsportsmanlike and I asked him why he did that and then he completely lost it again."

German team manager Oliver Bierhoff, caught in the middle of the melee which immediately followed the penalty shoot-out, said he had intervened after seeing Mertesacker targeted.

Bierhoff said: "Per was angry about what was a very unsporting thing to do and the players started going at each other. I saw that and wanted to put myself between them so the players didn't do anything stupid."

Meanwhile, Argentina coach Jose Pekerman resigned following the defeat with criticism being aimed at him for taking playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme off against the hosts with 18 minutes of normal time remaining.

Well, about half an hour to go....and my stomach is already in knots....

COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Another game going to overtime...

It wasnt very good in the first 90-something minutes, in fact, right until the red card it was a snooze-fast, but after Rooney got sent off for his cheap shot the game woke up.

Good game by Ashley Cole and Hargreaves so far.

Time to whistle "The Great Escape" for the next half-hour......

The defensive players, Ferdinand, Cole, Hargreaves, Neville and Terry, have been very good. Going forward, England have been disappointing. Even though I would rather they lose (I have a bet on), I kind of want them to score in extra-time so that Motty goes crazy.

BLOODY PENALTIES....AGAIN!!!!

Ricardo is a good goalie, maybe even better than Lehmann in penalty kicks.

The only English player who scored was Hargreaves and he's the only English player who deserved to score, that boy ran all game long like his life depended on it, whereas the "pros" (I mean you, Gerrard and Lampard) did nothing.

Good job Portugal.

deja-vu..

BTW...(and this is not just sour grapes) what a bunch of cheating bastards the portugese were, especially Ronaldo...you twat.

No!!

Ricardo is a a very good penaly kicker, but overall I don't find him a very strong goalie at all.

No, I think I have no choice but to support Germany!?

We already knew taht. Great acting. But this was a good referee who didn't fall for the tricks, so they seem to gave up on it during the match.

I want to post before all the England fans start to party here about how Portugal cheated, Ronaldo is an ass, they were robbed yada yada yada.

England sucked every game they played, they didnt have ONE FULL GAME in which they played well, they dont deserve anything in this cup and once again they disappointed. England sucked, you could blame Eriksson, even though he let Lampard and Gerrard a chance to do what they got and they didnt and he let Rooney played and he didnt do much either, blame him, blame the ref, blame the world, point is you didnt deserve to win, accept it and move on.

All in all, it really is meaningless since next round they meet Brazil who will beat both teams.

Ditto - and if I was Ronaldo, I'd hire police escort around Manchester....cheating git (and to a Man U team-mate)

The referee was exceptional today. Although if he did send Rooney off for the push, that was wrong. The ref didn't look like he reacted to the stamp, but then reacted when Rooney pushed Ronaldo. If that was the case, it was a poor decision, but overall today, the ref was good. The portugese, I can tell you, cheated a fair amount in this match especially Ronaldo but there were worse teams so far in the competition. And, as a neutral, I feel that Portugal deserved to win anyway. This is MY OPINION btw...
