Has Auburn become the laughing stock of college football or what? Chizik? Are you kidding? I am just glad we haven't lost Charlie Strong yet. We already lost Dan Mullen and we got to get someone to replace him. It doesn't look like he will be calling the plays in the championship game. Hope that doesn't hurt us. GO GATORS

Yes. Their fans are pissed. It's been a great year to be a Bama fan.

why don't they let the teams like Richmond or James Madison play for the National Championship? They can get more players of the roster if they had to.

Yes it has.. You said your dad is auburn fan right? My parents are big aubs.. They are really pissed at the ad at auburn. Dumbest decision ever.

The only way there is going to be anything close to a playoff is a plus one(which is basically a 4 team playoff). It will still make the regular season matter and we would still have a 11 game season.

They will never do anything to BCS bowl games because of amount of money it generates.

Personally, I'm with titsrock....the BCS may suck for some people (especially Texas and Texas Tech, and possibly Boise State), but based on the current system of 12-team major conferences and conference championships, it's the best we have for now.

My preferred idea would be to use the existing New Year's Day major bowl games with the traditional rivalries (Big Ten vs. Pac 10 in the Rose; SEC vs. whatever in the Sugar; ACC vs. Big East in the Orange; Big 8 vs. whomever in the Fiesta) to jerry rig a quasi-playoff. From there, we could have the winners meet in a Final Four-type event the week of the NFL conference championships, and the championship game either the week of or the off week before the Super Bowl.

It protects the big conferences, allows for flexibility in selecting at-large teams (that is, Notre Dame would NOT get a free ride and teams like Boise State would still have to prove their merit, while teams like Texas or Texas Tech could get at-large consideration on merit rather than being pushed out), and much easier for the players.

Plus...keeps New Year's Day busy for us couch potatoes; I'm not so sure that folks would want to go through with only ONE game on NYD.

BTW...the D1-AA playoff isn't necessarily totally universal, because one of the conferences -- the Southwestern Athletic -- doesn't send a team to participate due to the scheduling of their championship game. Also, because the Bayou Classic game between Southern and Grambling falls on the first week of the D1-AA playoffs, those two teams cannot participate at all even if they win that conference's championship...and given the revenues and the publicity that the Bayou Classic gets as compared to the pittance they would receive if they moved their game to accomodate a playoff system, it's in their best interest not to participate in any playoff system.

The only way that a March Madness-type playoff would be feasible for D-1A, in my view, would be if the conference championships were eliminated and split divisions in major conferences were somehow eliminated. Given the 12-team conferences, and the need to play 12 games, the possibility of that happenning is, like, never.

In short, get used to the present system, cause it's all we will have.

Yes they are the Clown College Football Program now. I thought when they didn't go with Leach they were going to go with Charlie Strong. Chizik will be to Auburn what Paul Hackett was to USC (before Pete Carroll came).

You mean like a Heisman trophy winning QB going in the 5th round of the draft the year he wins it? :1orglaugh It's things like that, that make me say the Heisman trophy is about worthless anymore.
The Heisman is a worthless NFL predicator now. Jason White won it for Okie and he never even got an NFL tryout:rolleyes: BUT..the Heisman is supposed to reward the best college player. I think the Heisman relies on stats too much and discounts BIG GAME PERFORMANCES. Back in the leather helmet days the Heisman winner was basically an automatic NFL prospect because there wasn't much competition and position specializing like there is today...

1 Sam Bradford, Oklahoma (R-Soph) Nation's leader in both touchdowns (48) and quarterback rating (186.29). After two seasons as a starter, Bradford's 84 career touchdowns set a school record.
2 OT, Michael Oher, Ole Miss Oher (6' 6" 320 lbs) has all the tools to be a pro bowl tackle. He slides very well, finishes his blocks and has a nice punch.
3 QB Matt Stafford, Georgia (JR) Stafford is one of the top QBs in the nation, he doesn't throw on the run very good, but has a cannon for an arm while in the pocket.
4 WR, Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech (Soph)
The top receiver in the nation is a draft eligible sophomore. He won his second straight Biletnikoff Award. Crabtree caught 18 touchdown passes, and has 93 receptions for 1,135 yards.
5 LB, Aaron Curry, Wake Forest Curry is just flying up the draft boards. He is a very explosive, talented linebacker with nice size (6' 3" 247 lbs). Winner of the 2008 Butkis Award.
6 DE/OLB, Brian Orakpo, Texas A pass rushing specialist and at 6' 4" 258 could also play some linebacker. Orakpo won the 2008 Bronco Nagurski Award.
7 OT, Andre Smith, Alabama (JR) Smith is huge at 6' 4" 330 pounds. He won the 2008 Outland Trophy. Smith reminds me of the Cowboy's OG Leonard Davis.
8 DT, B. J. Raji, Boston College Raji is a monster at 6' 1" 325 pounds. In 2008 he recorded 11 tackles for loss (TFLs) and 6.5 sacks. A great nose guard prospect that creates havoc on the inside.
9 OT, Jason Smith, Baylor Smith is a super talented offensive lineman and can move in and start right away at left tackle. Smith has the best feet of all the O-linemen in this draft.
10 CB, Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State I was surprised Jenkins didn't enter the 2008 NFL Draft, where he would have been a top 20 selection. Jenkins won the 2008 Jim Thorpe Award.
11 LB, Brian Cushing, USC Cushing (6' 4" 255 lbs) had a great senior year. He lead the top ranked Trojan defense with 10 tackles for loss TFLs), 2.5 sacks and 6 pass break ups.
12 LB, Rey Maualuga, USC Maualuga (6' 2" 260 lbs) battled injuries this year, but when healthy he is as good as it gets. Winner of the 2008 Bednarik Award.
13 LB, James
Laurinaitis,Ohio State Laurinaitis won the Butkis Award in 2007 and could have been a top ten pick if he would have entered the 2008 NFL Draft.
14 OT, Eugene Monroe, Virginia Monroe (6' 5" 315 lbs) has great feet, but doesn't stay on his blocks as long as Michael Oher or Jason Smith.
15 FS, William Moore, Missouri Moore didn't have a great year in 2008, but he is still an elite prospect with nice size at 6' 1" 215 lbs. In 2008 he recorded 83 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 1 INT and 5 pass break ups.

i didnt take time to read all this
i just looked at the names

in my opinion...Andre Smith is every bit as good as Michael Oher

Rey Maualuga is the best player on that list. The RAAADAHS should select him. I think Detroit has to go QB with the first pick.

I just read that Boise State was passed over for inclusion into the Mountain West when that conference selected TCU instead. Hmmm. That matchup just got a lot more bitter and tastier.....

Yeah he is... he isn't surprised though, the morons running their program have been there for a while and they have been looking for an excuse to get rid of Tubby, and they got it. But WOW, what a bad hire! And now they are losing a lot fo their recruits... it's like self-imposed probation down there!

The sports talk buzz today is that Auburn didn't hire Turner Gill (Buffalo) because he's a black man with a white wife.

It that's true it speaks volumes... :(

Let's take a minute and congratulate Minnesota Duluth for defeating NW Missouri State 21-14 to win their first ever Division II title. Well done team.

It was Charles Barkley who said it, and I tend to believe him. Although, would Turner Gill (or anyone) really want to take the Auburn job after the unprofessional, sadsacky, keystone koppish way they've gone about this process? Who runs the Auburn football program--the School or the Alums?

Turner Gill has resurrected a zombie of a program in 1 year...but I do think he should have a second season in Buffalo before he goes to "Big Ball University." I read a report that says Turner Gill models his coaching after his mentor --Tom Osborne. WHo the heck WOULDN'T want that for their program? Osborne kept Nebraska in BEAST MODE for 30 years.

There is a problem with how most colleges go about their hiring/firing processes. The SEC is the worst of the worst. I guess all SEC schools think they should win every game by 100 pts. Hmm. Is that realistic for the majority of their programs? Steve Spurrier hasn't done "squat" for South Carolina. When's he going to get the heaveho? They haven't risen into the top tier. They're just a middle road program.

It was Charles Barkley who said it...

I think it's funny, but Mike Wilbon said the same thing. He also made a good point on PTI once, when he talked about how it has become a trend for teams to announce their current head coach's predecessor before they even leave the team and he felt that the reason teams do that is so they can avoid interviewing black candidates. I don't know if I 100% agree with that, but it certainly makes a hell of a lot of sense.

I heard that the many of the Auburn faithful are very displeased about the decision to hire Chizik. You have to wonder....he was 2-10 at Iowa St. this past season. How well do you think Chizik will do going against Nick Saban for top recruits?

As for the racism conjecture.....well, it is Alabama after all. What a shame.

I don't think it was because Gill is black... It had more to do with the powers behind the "throne" at AU wanting a HC that was an insider whom they could control. If fact, I heard through the grapevine that Gill said no to AU. Take Barkley with a grain of salt... always. One person said it was because Gill had a white wife, which doesn't hold water because one of the assistant coaches there right now is black and has a white wife.

Some people should not be so quick to judge, nor make generalizations about 5 million or so people.
