Isn't that sort of similar to what the New England Patriots use now? I think the spread offense has characteristics that are good, especially in college ball.

The Pats run the spread?:1orglaugh Not even close. Have you seen Tom Brady run the ball? Try never. This season...the Pats seem more like they're running the Hawai'i Fun-n-Gun with all the passing yards/TDs they're piling up....

The spread is fun to watch...Florida runs it well with Tebow, less so with Chris Leak last year (though they won it all last year:dunno:)...LSU seems to be running it this year...I don't think they did last year with JaMarcus Russell as QB...

I think play action passing is deadly in college...and so is the 5 wide spread. If Ohio State is going to have a chance against LSU..they're going to have to play in 4 or 5 WR sets. If they think they can push LSU around with the ground game...it will be blowout city.

The Georgia/Hawai'i game is a total joke. Did anyone really think Hawai'i was going to give Georgia a game? This is embarassing. BCS blowouts are actually embarrassing because they prove that the BCS Committee people are greedy shitbirds, for the most part. The Rose Bowl wanted a Big10/Pac10 matchup so the game would sell out...but the reality is that Illinois did not belong on the same field as USC. Everyone wanted to see USC/Georgia...and the Sugar didn't want to get stuck with Hawai'i versus a non SEC team...so basically...quality matchups get blocked in favor of sellout/blowouts...

they should have a playoff with all the winners of the bcs games and decide who the real champion is..

No way. Include Hawaii and Illinois but leave out Missouri just because of the BCS? A much better idea is to totally scrap the fucking BCS and just go by one of the polls (I prefer the AP poll). The top 16 teams in the nation would qualify in a 1 vs. 16, 2 vs 15, etc. single-elimination playoff format. The entire playoff would take 4 weeks....virtually the exact same amount of time that teams are now completely idle while waiting to play in what is usually a meaningless bowl game (unless you are lucky enough to be one of the teams chosen to play in the title game). You could use existing lower-tier bowl games as early-round playoff games and keep the more major bowls for the ensuing rounds. The championship game could be rotated annually between the Rose, Fiesta, Orange and Sugar Bowls. It would be easy to implement, wouldn't sacrifice the money made by the existing bowl system (and, let's face it....money is what is driving the reluctance to go to a playoff) and would undoubtedly produce a consensus champion. Can you imagine the TV ratings if each bowl game had playoff consequences rather than simply awarding some bogus "trophy" for winning the game? And the bowl games left over? Go ahead and still have 'em if you want! They just wouldn't count in the playoff (just like it is right now!). It's a no-brainer.

When LSU or Ohio State is crowned champion next week, will Georgia or Oklahoma or USC fans be convinced? I don't think so. Neither will I. The BCS sucks....bring on a playoff.....NOW!

I think that the most annoying thing about the bowl system right now is "awarding" 6-6 teams with a post-season bid. Way to man up and get to .500! I, too, would like a play-off system; every other sport has a play-off/tournament, and Division 1 football should be no different. But money talks and logic walks in this case.

^^^ Yes to the 6-6 joke. That's simply awful. A "good season" should at least be 8 wins or better. 10 of the Bowl games should be completely eliminated right now.

We can make compelling matchups between 2 8-win teams. We simply need to break up all of the "mandatory conference selections"...the SEC can not be guaranteed 8 teams every year...the ACC is having a horrendous bowl season and should not be guaranteed 7 or 8 slots whatever it is...

All bowl games should be "free agents" able to pick the best matchups they can get. Or there needs to be an overall *committee* of ex-coaches and media types who can set all the matchups and make a true attempt at making attractive competitive matchups...

Is anyone geeked over a pending Oklahoma destruction of West Virginia? Oklahoma/USC/Georgia just got $100mil worth of free PR and recruiting for their programs....Hawai'i just got flushed down the toilet. It will take Hawai'i years to overcome the negativity being heaped on them today....

Hey titsrock,

Congratulations are in order and I commend you for not rubbing it in after USC won yet another Rose Bowl. It's nice to have mature, adult members who take wins and defeats like men. I mean here and I thought ALL Southern Cal fans were just a bunch of latte sipping homos. ;):D

I don't know what's sadder, the fact that Leinart looks like he dwarfs Leshay or the fact some singer like Leshay's has arms that are larger than a professional quarterback's who beats him in height by about 8 inches. :1orglaugh

Maybe if Hawaii was a recruiting powerhouse before, but I never thought they dragged in a lot of top people so I don't know how much will change.

yes!! I hope west virginia can hold on.. I picked them in a upset over oaklahoma.

 LOL!
I remember the 90s when USC was irrelevant and Ucla was the LA power so I keep the talk somewhat limited. There are plenty of johnnycomelately SC douchebags, no doubt...the thing is..let's go with "Southern California"...not "Southern Cal"..KungFu you won't get laid by an SC hawtie if you drop a "Southern Cal"...in LA or around campus...like at the 9-0.

Where have you been boy? I'm currently watching West Virginia makin' me eat my words from above...they are kicking the crapola out of the Sooners...

That's music to my ears...

After my team took a beating (Arkansas), I'm glad to see my western neighbor get beat as well.

I think Missouri and Georgia got the shaft in the BSC bowl games... Georgia should have gone to the Rose Bowl (at least it would be a better game) and Missouri should have gotten a quality opponent for the Sugar Bowl.

The BCS blows.

Oh, I've not been out having a life. You know how it goes around the holidays.

I'm currently enjoying this West Virginia/Oklahoma showdown too. Forget the game though, I mean the accents of all the people have had me in stitches since the kickoff. I score it West Virginia back water accents in a landslide!

Nick Lashay actually doesn't bother me. I think he got railroaded by Simpson and the Media. The media wanted her to be unattached and free to bang whoever...tabloid press is pathetic. She was dumb enough to listen to them and trade Nicky in...

Leinart is going to be the future stud of the NFL next year...

I think for the next two years ESPN is going to lead any Hawaii highlight with some comment about them getting their asses handed to them by the Dawgs..

Which university could supply the nation with the best porn? Would the cowpokers from Okie have a girl who could squeal her way to the top or would a WVU moonshine mumble her way to our hearts...(and dicks)??

Leinart is going to be the future stud of the NFL next year...

Unlike a lot of people I do think he has room to improve, especially if a couple of parts improve on the team. I think one of the things they said about him coming out of school on the other hand was the fact that he was nearly NFL ready but might also be one of those players that were already close to his ceiling? Then again it isn’t like Vince Young tore it up this year either let alone Jay Cutler, Jamarcus Russell, or Brady Quinn for that matter.

Bowl Recap!

INDEPENDENCE BOWL
Alabama 30, Colorado 24
The overall speed of the Crimson Tide was incredible in this game...

ARMED FORCES BOWL
California 42, Air Force 36
The Golden Bears salvage a once sparkling season with this win...

HUMANITARIAN BOWL
Fresno State 40, Georgia Tech 28
If there is one way to fuck up your television, it's the blue of the football field...

SUN BOWL
Oregon 56, South Florida 21
The Ducks suddenly remember that they have more weapons than their fallen QB and break the Bulls' heart.

MUSIC CITY BOWL

Kentucky 35, Florida State 28
The Wildcats win, but they shouldn't have had that much problems with a decimated Seminole team, right?

INSIGHT BOWL

Oklahoma State 49, Indiana 33
Didn't see the ironically named Insight Bowl that was only available on the rarely seen NFL Network.

CHICK-FIL-A BOWL
Auburn 23, Clemson 20 (OT)
Awesome game and probably the best bowl matchup this post-season.

OUTBACK BOWL
Tennessee 21, Wisconsin 17
The Volunteers squeak out a close game against the Badgers. What a finish!

COTTON BOWL
Missouri 38, Arkansas 7
WOW. I did NOT expect The Tigers to beat the living hell out of the Razorbacks this badly!

GATOR BOWL
Texas Tech 31, Virginia 28
The Red Raiders edge the Cavaliers in a game I barely watched... :o

CAPITAL ONE BOWL
Michigan 41, Florida 35
OMG. I didn't give the Wolverines a chance in Hell to win, but they were more than up to the task in this slugfest against the Gators. Kudos, UM, kudos!

INTERNATIONAL BOWL
Rutgers 52, Ball State 30
I just watched this game, and The Scarlet Knights and RB Ray Rice can be so unstoppable at times, its scary. I really hope Rice can do his magic in the pros.

THE BCS BOWLS (so far...)
ROSE BOWL
USC 49 Illinois 17
Jesus, what a beatdown. It got to the point where I was just watching for the USC Song Girls more than usual. I hope NOW the Rose Bowl committee picks the best at-large team available next time.

SUGAR BOWL
Georgia 41 Hawaii 10
The Bulldogs basically raped this year's Cinderella team, and like the USC Trojans, made a case for being #1 in the country.

FIESTA BOWL
West Virginia 48 Oklahoma 28
Sure, the Mountaineers didn't have a head coach or Steve Slayton on the field. BUT we allllllll forgot this was a Bob Stoops team playing in January...and that means Another Blow-out Sooner Loss.

ORANGE BOWL
Kansas 24 Virginia Tech 21
Mangino obvious tilted the field in favor of the Jayhawks! And they proved that they belonged in the BCS series as much as Missouri proved it, too.

One more game to go in this great season!
LSU Tigers vs THE Ohio State Buckeyes

No real preference for me in the title game. Way back on September 8th when LSU absolutely destroyed Virginia Tech they looked like national champs to me. But they've stumbled twice since, and though I give them the edge I wouldn't be surpirsed if OSU wins.

So many "what ifs" this year it's amazing...including Missouri missing a dream season by one game.

I'm no USC fan, but I almost feel sorry for them. Granted they're loaded enough to continue contending for national championships, but this is the second year in a row that one highly unlikely (especially this year) loss has kept them out of the championship game.

Great recap Satyr...I think L.S.U. is going to win. I think they will pull away in the second half. Ohio State hasn't played a game in about 2 years it feels like..they will be rusty. They need to really come out and surprise LSU, but I don't think this is as talented a Buckeye team as before.

My team, USC, layeth the smaketh down nicely...I wish we had an SC/Georgia Rose Bowl...that would've been incredible. I'm not bitching about not playing for the NC this year. SC lost to Stanford. That's still a bad loss which no spin can justify...what has me worried is that SC isn't cleaning up in recruiting this year that I'd like...:( It seems only a chosen few want to be Trojans next year...

I think LSU will win big on Monday.

I'm going with LSU ftw! They were #1 on My unofficial polls many more times than anyone else, even My fave, USC. But I think that if the BCS system is still in place, w/o a playoff system, then the selection committees for each bowl had BETTER select more intriguing match-ups; after such an amazing season, where there were MANY great games...having 3 of the 4 BCS series games played thus far be complete and utter blow-outs is not good. In some respects, yes, a better team will kick the Hell out of another team...but these are the top-tier of teams and the games should have been closer or teams matched up accordingly. Does that mean Hawaii being out of the mix? No, not any more than Illinois or Oklahoma, two other teams that were blown out. I think that the bowl selections should be televised; not after they are selected like is shown but the actual selection process with a rep of the committee explaining why a team was picked to play in the game.

And I think Hawaii will be out of the BCS mix for a while: ESPN is reporting SMU is close to finalizing the details of a contract for former Hawaii coach June Jones and he is expected to be introduced at a press conference as soon as Monday, a source close to the situation said Sunday.
