The Most Beautiful Song Ever

I've been asked many times and I have an entire garage filled with beautiful lovesongs or harmonic melodies. It's hard to put a poll on this one but for me the vote goes for...

John Newton's legendary Amazing Grace

other songs from my "mile high"-list
Louis Armstrong – What a Wonderful World
Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah
Wham! – Careless Whisper
Prince – Purple Rain
John Lennon – Imagine
Ben E. King – Stand by Me
Paul Anka – Oh Carol (the original, I think, he does it best)
Unchained Melody (the Elvis Presley and Righteous Brothers versions)
The Beatles – Let it be
Johnny Logan – Hold Me Now
Dolly Parton – I will always love you (the original) och Heartbreaker
Simon & Garfunkel – The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Water
Michael Jackson – Man in the Mirror (masterpiece)
Celine Dion – Pour Que tu M’aimes Encore, It’s all coming back to me now (eeh... I prefer all)
Richard Marx – Right here waiting for you, Hold on to the night
Bette Midler – The Rose
Stevie Wonder – That’s what friends are for
Mylene Farmer - Dechechantée
Motown Originals – What Becomes of the Broken Heart (any version is fine)
.......

Acoustic Little Wing by Hendrix
Stardust - Coltrane
It Never Entered My Mind - Miles Davis
Mull of Kintyre - Wings

Guess I'll update more later. Hard to decide in terms of "beautiful songs", if I should list the ones that bring out the most extreme emotions in me, or if I should list a certain category of soft melodic tune that makes you nostalgic and mellowed out.

There are many songs I could say each of them to be the best...

First, I love medieval and renaissance music in particular, here are some of my favourites:

Nel mio parlar by Iacopo da Bologna
Under der linden and Palaestinalied by Walther von der Vogelweide
Flow My Teares by John Dowland
Greensleeves by king Henry VIIIth
Three Ra'ens (England - 16th century)

Concerning the music of recent decades, I'd like to mention the following:

Child In Time and April by Deep Purple
Stairway To Heaven and Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden
Layla by Eric Clapton
Aqualung, Heavy Horses and Whistler by Jethro Tull

and many more...

Ah, how could I forget about Stairway? As overplayed and popular as it is, it truly is one of the best and deserves recognition.

Jagger69

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Crying by Roy Orbison.

Don McLean did an awesome version of this song as well.

My favourite would be "Thugz Mansion" by 2Pac and Nas. I don't know if it's a beautiful song, but it's som good lyrics!

[Intro: Nas]
I want you to close your eyes
And vision the most beautiful place in the world
If you in the hood on the ghetto street corner
Come on this journey
The best journey
Acres of land and swimming pools and all that
Check it out

[Verson One: Nas]
I'm capable of anything, my imagination can give me wings
To fly like does over the streets watchin' many things
Kids walkin' home from school on drug block missionaries
Pass out papers that read: Love God
See faces, cases, judges, juries, masons, lawyers and cops
I watch because every thugs face is my mirror
But this was one in particular
This kid he was the vintage stick em up pro
16 years old, did his jail sentence, nowhere to go
Every mornin calls his comrad to come and get him to smoke
He insane, already gone mad
Blames himself for his setbacks
Dangerous street corners where his sets at
Slang from dust to dawn, detectives act like they maniacs
Chasin' him, his ass was flarin'
Smokin' like a chimney, on really, of course he not carin'
He need a place to go to keep his mind expandin'
I give him a helpin' hand, bring him out to Thugz Mansion

[Chorus: J. Phoenix]
Every corner, every city
There's a place where life's a little busy
Little Hennessy, laid back and cool
Every hour, cause it's all good
Leave all the stress from the world outside
Every wrong done will be alright
Nothin but peace, love
And street passion, every ghetto needs a thug mansion

[Verse Two: 2Pac]
Dear momma don't cry, your baby boy's doin good
Tell the homies I'm in heaven and they ain't got hoods
Seen a show with Marvin Gaye last night, it had me shook
Drippin peppermint Schnapps, with Jackie Wilson, and Sam Cooke
Then some lady named Billie Holiday
Sang sittin there kickin it with Malcolm, 'til the day came
Little LaTasha sho' grown
Tell the lady in the liquor store that she's forgiven, so come home
Maybe in time you'll understand only God can save us
When Miles Davis cuttin lose with the band
Just think of all the people that you knew in the past
that passed on, they in heaven, found peace at last
Picture a place that they exist, together
There has to be a place better than this, in heaven
So right before I sleep, dear God, what I'm askin
Remember this face, save me a place, in thug's mansion

[Chorus]

[Verse Three: Nas]
A place where death doesn't reside, just thugs who collide
Not to start beef but spark trees, no cops rollin by
No policemen, no homicide, no chalk on the streets
No reason, for nobody's momma to cry
See I'm a good guy, I'm tryin to stick around for my daughter
But if I should die, I know all of my albums support her
This whole year's been crazy, asked the Holy Spirit to save me
Only difference from me and Ossie Davis, gray hair maybe
Cause I feel like my eyes saw too much sufferin
I'm just twenty-some-odd years, I done lost my mother
And I cried tears of joy, I know she smiles on her boy
I dream of you more, my love goes to Afeni Shakur
Cause like Ann Jones, she raised a ghetto king in a war
And just for that alone she shouldn't feel no pain no more
Cause one day we'll all be together, sippin heavnly champagne
What angels saw, with golden wings in thug's mansion

[Chorus]

Moments in Love - Art of Noise

I think that there are many beautiful songs, and I really like a good deal of those already posted here.
I'll pick a song that I find very beautiful too. It's heavy metal, since I really like that genre, and also to add something a bit different.
I think that it's a very emotional and also kind of sad song. I've liked it from the very first time I heard it, and it just keeps getting better.

I Died for You by Iced Earth
I can't belive this now
This isn't what I planned
I lived and died and now
I just can't understand
With all the love I feel
I could never leave her
No matter what the cost
My soul's the price to see her

Chorus
Oh how I love you
The pain won't go away
Oh when I need you
You're always so far away
I cry for you
Leaving myself to blame
I died for you
I gave up everything

The pain was just too much
When I finally saw her
She's happy and in love
In love with my best friend
What makes it hurt so bad
Is that I love them both
And they will never know
For love I sold my soul

Repeat Chorus

there are so many beautiful songs out there, but to mention
two recent songs, that nearly make me cry everytime i hear them
are from the recent tool album "10.000 days".

the songs (well it's one song split in two, really) are
"wings for marie" and "10.000 days".

these two songs are an hommage to singer keenan's mother
who died in 2003, if i remember correctly, after being
paralized for more than 27 years or 10.000 days.

these two songs are simply brilliant and ulimately sad.
the whole album is a masterpiece. if you like tool, you
will love this album, if you hate them, then , well....
