How come the grass season has to be so incredibly short? Is it only because the cost of maintaining the courts a lot higher?
With so many top players losing so far, I'd think they wouldnt mind more preparation :dunno:

i agree. Too damn short for so funny surface, like Rafa said this week...

2 grand slams are on hard courts (Oz and US), 1 in clay and 1 in grass.
6 masters 100 are on hard courts and 3 on clay (Monaco, Rome, Madrid)... and no grass??? i would love a grass Masters 1000, right before wimbledon (instead of Madrid could work), and start the clay season a little earlier.

yeah, grass may be the solution for him: he faces Roger in Halle final tomorrow. It's his first final in the last 14 months, his 2nd in the last 3 years!

if i were a raFAN/FANadal, i would be worried:
- he has played too damn much since Montecarlo
- he lost against... Feliciano Lopez ??? c'mon.
- his body is giving bad signals. Again.

I'm gonna dare to say that he's NOT the favorite at SW19 this year. Not above Roger, at least. My bet is for a QF or maybe SF. No final. Sorry.

Fernando González is gone for 10 weeks with a knee injury, that means he misses Wimby + a Davis Cup tie :crying:

very, very, very bad news for us all latinamericans. Sorry for Gonzo and all fellows chileans. Good thing they get into FIFA's world cup and into Libertadores SFs. Hope they get into the final over Chivas.

4 posts in a row, I feel like lechepicha :helpme:

 :rofl2:

i know what you're feeling, brother.

Maybe if you were a raFAN/FANadal, you might consider :
- He has played too much recently, this early loss will give him some much needed recovery time.
- Its not like the other top seeds are making a big impression either. Roddick, Murray, Djokovic, Cilic(maybe not top right now), Davydenko etc. all lost as well. A few of those were to worse players than Lopez too. Other guys like Soderling are unproven on grass.
- He has still made the finals the last three times he played at Wimbledon, so he knows how to win there. There is the 'Fed factor', where even though Roger might not be playing great leading into a GS, he still manages to win, 'because he is Roger Federer'. Nadal kind of has that ability too I think, at least on clay and grass. In 2006 and 2007, he had similar big winning streaks going, then lost at Queens in the QF both times. He went on to make the final at Wimbledon afterwards both times too.

Roger should be favourite, he is 76-1 on grass since 2003 after all. But who is going to beat Nadal? It wont be easy for whoever wants to take him out  We will have to see if the bad signals he might be showing are serious or not.

Just keeping it fair and balanced :D

76-2 :(

he lose today against Hewitt in the Halle final.

he ended a streak of 15 loses consecutive against Roger.
It's his 28th career title, first of the year, first in 14 months.

Very nice for Lleyton, very bad for Roger.
Lleyton gains momentum for Wimbledon, Roger continues his deep, deep slump since Oz (only 1435 points). I'm sad to say that maybe, just maybe, this is it: this is where Roger starts to slowly fade out. Wimbledon is going to be a turning point, no doubt. If he wins it, he will prove he's still the man (along with Rafa) to beat. But if he falls in 4th round or QF, it would be the begginning of the end. I mean, if he loses in grass, where he has been so dominant, he's in trouble. :(

Sam Querrey won the ATP 250 in Queens, London. He beats countryman Mardy Fish in the final. It's his 3rd title of the season (2nd of the tour, behind only Rafa) and his 5th career title.
It's his fourth title in the last 11 and a half months. And his 9th final of the last 12 months. Wow. Spectacular stat. He looks very, very strong for Wimbledon. A QF wouldn't be such a surprise.

who is going to beat Nadal? It wont be easy for whoever wants to take him out

of course. No easy, definitely. But let's see: Soderling, Querrey, Hewitt, Roddick, even Murray. All those are capable of beating Roger in grass.

Just keeping it fair and balanced :D

yeah, of course. No worries, mate ;)
in fact, you're right in your statestments :hatsoff:

Wow. Lleyton won? Incredible. Maybe all is not lost for him afterall. This must feel like one of the biggest of his career for him. :hatsoff:

Also a helluva congrats to my guys Mardy Fish and Sam Querrey. Superb!

a big motivation, yeah.
best of his career? maybe not because of the title, but for beating Roger after 15 straight loses. And also because it was after his hip surgery.

Also a helluva congrats to my guys Mardy Fish and Sam Querrey. Superb!

yeah. Like i said before in this thread, i think Sam Querrey is the next best thing for US tennis.
I've been following since last year winning in L.A., and this wimbledon will be no exception: i would love watch him reach his first-ever grand slam QF. And the best part it's that doesn't look THAT unlikely these days.

Congrats to Hewitt :glugglug: Very timely article above--the Hewitt Dilemma ;)

I'm not too worried about Nadal or Feds. Nadal is primed though for a big run at Wimby. He hasn't played a lot of 5 setters lately. ;) I don't see Feds going out early at Wimby. He could play his first and second round opponents left-handed and still roll over them..:yesyes:

It's nice to see Mardy Fish popping up late in various tourneys. He and Querrey are on a roll now...maybe they are going to make some noise at Wimby.

The player who's in trouble at the moment appears to be Murray :o

Federer's chase for the No. 1 record
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/te...ns/story?columnist=kamakshi_tandon&id=5282635

Long way back for Fed :helpme:
Will he make it? What say you? :hammer:

not this year, i have to admit.

but next year, definitely. Think about it: if he mantain as no. 2 or a close no. 3 after Oz 2011, he will have few points to defend (no Dubai, bad Indian Wells, bad Miami, bad Rome, SF estoril -he should won-, F Madrid -well, this one isn't easy-, bad Roland Garros and F Halle)

and Rafa? no dubai, SF Indian Wells, SF Miami, win in Montecarlo, Rome, Madrid and Roland Garros (OUCH! that's more than 6000 points!). Even if Rafa win all that again, he would have no extra points, and roger should have a ton more (especially in IW, MI and RG)

so, after Roland Garros 2011 (or earlier), i'm pretty sure Roger will be No. 1 and will get that record. But until then (almost a year), it would be all downhill for Rafa...

Nadal, Federer to focus on football ... briefly

go Switzserland!!! ;)

McEnroe: 'Murray will win a Slam – but not this year's Wimbledon'

I disagree. He definitely have a chance in THIS year US Open. Hell, maybe Wimbledon next week.

I agree, Wimbledon will be too much for Murray but he has a chance in the US Open if his hard court preparation goes well. I think people have forgotten he has been there before and was a finalist in the Australian this year too.

I bloody hope he breaks his duck and gets his maiden Grand Slam, otherwise I fear it will start to hang over him and inevitably lead to pressure from the press.

Go Andy!!

it's already hangin over him, and the press is already pressing him...

i would love to watch a Murray-Nadal in SF...

If Nadal is seeded 2, and Murray 4, then they would both have to make the final to play each other right?
SF is potentially 2 vs 3, and 1 vs 4.
Its easier for Murray to get past Djokovic, so the seeding probably works out for him, if they get that far.

nope. It doesn't work that way.

it's 1-4 and 2-3 OR 1-3 and 2-4

Murray and Nole CAN'T PLAY IN THE SFs.

That's why it doesn't matter much if you're 3 or 4 in the world. Or 1 or 2, for the sake of draws, but of course, the prestige of being the no. 1 it's worth enough. Or even 5-8 (QFs)
