2010 Olympics in Vancouver thread

This is the thread for all things Winter Olympics related.

I love the Olympics, and I'm a Canadian, so this is a double dip for me! Vancouver has struggled to get ready, I hope they get everything done.

I think the Canadian hockey team looks mighty good. I think the American hockey team is underrated, but they will struggle against Canada, Russia, and Finland.

Discuss your favourite Winter games!

33 days until the events begin! Here are some resources:

I bet Canada wins more medals than USA.

I can't wait to not be able to go outside because of how fucking busy it is. I don't really care about the Olympics at all to be honest but that's just, like, my opinion man.

I can't wait for it to start. USA USA USA. I think Team USa hockey will surprise people since they are not being given a Chance at all.

Damn, I used to live in B.C. It must be crazy busy out there with all those tourists coming
out to see the games.

Well, since we were awarded the games, we've been investing heavily in our athletes (for once) with the Own the Podium campaign...we need to show up when the show is in our backyard.

We usually get a few golds, some more silvers, more bronze ... and if they handed out something for 4th (copper, maybe?) we'd be killin' it. I doubt we'll own much of anything except all the cost over-runs and un-forseen budget increases...debt rocks, gotta love the Olympics

Thing is, Vancouver will be burned to the ground if we don't win the gold in hockey. We are SORE losers in Vancouver, and the '94 Stanley Cup riot will look like harmless fun if you Yanks or the Russkies (or Swedes) steal the gold in our home and native land.

Go Canada go!!

If the Yanks win the gold in hockey, the team won't make it out of GM Place alive.

I really hope that th swedes can defend the gold. :D
There is at least going to be a medal.
I am also hoping for medals in crosscountry skiing and biathlon.

The winter games are one of my favorite things to look forward to every four years. I can't wait to watch some Olympic downhill events. :)

I hope the frenchies would get some medals. They aren't among the favorites but they are quite good and in good condition...
So sad that Granger got a big injury.

The Winter Olympics are the ugly step-child of the Summer Olympics (no apologies to those offended). I don't watch very many events because there is a good chance that the Americans won't be winning. I could care less if a downhill skier from Norway just won a gold medal.

That being said, I watch the ski jump only because there's a chance for someone to be horribly disfigured. And I watch Curling because I'm amazed it's considered an Olympic event - it's shuffle board on ice with some housekeeping thrown in for good measure. Then there's the biathlon where you ski for awhile and then shoot a gun at a target. If you happen to be an Alpine sniper, then I suppose this event has relevance. Otherwise, what the fuck is that about? So bring it on. NBC has been hyping it up for months now. Yesterday, Chris Collinsworth said he was going to be there to call some of the action. That pretty much ensures that I'll be tuning in as little as possible. GO (meh) USA!

You are 100% right about the fourth place - it is like the Canadians are trained to come in fourth so as to not offend anyone.
