I think I'm going to have to go with Nightmare for me. The storyline isn't as good as the original, but overall the movie seems darker and grittier. Maybe it just feels that way to me because I think Freddy looks the creepiest in this one. You can barely even make out his face most of the movie.

So I was trying to think of a poll for Halloween, and since best franchises and monsters have been done already I decided on this. I'm not talking about which sequel is better than the original, just which one you liked most.
