Concerning the finals: I think the French will take it. Offense wins the game, the defense wins the championship. Nobody beats Vieira and Thuram, even not Cannavaro.
Hopefully Inzaghi, the old frog, will stay on the bench.
I agree with a little correction. It's not a ideological match against defence and offensive teams, but a fight Team x Player. That teams are on final worked better as a skillfull team, when the others works better as a individual skillfull. See Brazil, nobody can disagree that Brazil has the major number of brilliant players and he got out pretty earlier. Btw, today's France works very poorly on individual skills, but as a team was good enough to make the final. I saw the game against Portugal, if you freeze the image anytime France is getting a Portugal's counterstrike you can see clearly, two lines of four player perfectly aligned. That show they didnt make nothing brilliant, but they follow the ABC they trained everyday. France and Italy isn't the better team in defense, probably Switerzland is, got out without taking one single goal in the regular and extra times, but still missing works like a hole and complete team (Where the offensive?).
Well, Pele's Brazil worked 'cause wasn't "Pele's Team", it was "Seleção Canarinho". Well Pele is well known as the best player of all time and him didn't do all the job, why 36 years later gonna be diferent?
That difference for today's Cup is: I never saw a Cup with so many star players and no one star team. Brazil was a team with a lot of star player, not a star team.
My opinion, agreeing with daschok, a player can score goals and beat weak teams with that, a great team can win a cup.
P.S.: I can put Portugal on the same size of France, they didn't got out fairly. I dont like their formation 4-4-1-1 (isn't 4-4-2 as the most think, Ronaldo isn't full offensive, he is the connection between middle field and Pauleta, you can see he changing the side of play in the middle of the game). I agree about Portugal's team could play more and fall less, but I wont judge them. Since 1914, that's the second time Portugal got there, on the semi-final, experience should have some value there, dont you think?
