I wrote the following in another (non-porn) forum about England:

Many people are critiscizing Sven-Göran Eriksson and he deserves criticism. But a few of our so-called "star players" also failed to live up to the hype, and we need to realise that our supposedly best players do not automatically make the best team.
Don't get me wrong, I think we have the basis of a decent team - but we also need to say goodbye (and good riddance) to the *********, WAG photo-shoot era. The team needs to focus on the real job.

Next: Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. Regardless whether Rooney's stamp on Ricardo Carvalho was by accident or design, his temperment makes him a liability. If Rooney doesn't realise that defenders will continue to provoke him each time he steps on a football field, then for all his talents he's a fool. As for Ronaldo - yes, I thought his actions towards Rooney were shameful. But judging by some OTT comments in the press, I half-expect him to sprout horns and shout a sinister "Nya ha ha!"
Obviously some fans will blame either Rooney or Ronaldo (or both of them) for England's exit from the competition and you can be sure the media will continue to provoke the situation between both players, as it sells newspapers. It's easy to create a **** figure (just ask retired Swiss referee Urs Meier), since it diverts debate on the real problem that some of our "superstars" aren't really that super.

Finally, we need to get away from the mentality that England are good enough to win everything in sight. We are not world beaters. We don't have a divine right to win the World Cup and/or the European Football Championship.
Let's be blunt - since 1966, England have only reached two semi finals (1990 & 1996) and no finals. We are not a footballing superpower and haven't been for 40 years, so we should get realistic when judging our chances of winning a major football tournament.

Great post om3ga.

The press before the competition saying we had the players to do it were deluded. As much as we can blame Sven (and he has made mistakes) the players aren't good enough when it comes to the very top level.

The only competition I really blame Sven for was Euro 2004. Against Portugal he had Scholes on the left, then took him off and played Hargreaves on the left, took Gerrard off for Phil Neville :dunno: and worst of all when Rooney went off, he brang on Vassell who is a carbon copy of Owen and we had no link between midfield and ******. Absolute awful management.

We will only do well in Euro 2008 (2010 is far to long away to start planning) if McLaren has the balls to pick the best TEAM and not the best players. What manager on planet earth would pick Gerrard and Lampard as a midfield pairing? One of them should be dropped, preferably Lampard.

As for Ronaldo, I'm actually hoping he stays now just to stuff the words of the media down there throats. He's obviously out of order but the reaction he has got is nothing short of scandolous.

It's good to be the king...
Wayne Rooney has been suspended for two matches and fined £2,400 by Fifa following his red card against Portugal in the World Cup quarter-final.
World football's governing body found the 20-year-old striker guilty of violent conduct as a result of his stamp on defender Ricardo Carvalho.

The Manchester United star will miss England's Euro 2008 qualifying matches against Andorra and away to Macedonia.

He will be available again for the home game against Macedonia on 7 October.

Go France GO! :p beat the cheaters :p lol

i am happy that Italy and France are in the Final and not Germany or Portugal.
the Portuguese are not very sportive, cause they fall every time an arm or legg touches them. The germans play quite well, but the Audience was whistling against the Italians, that was not very sportive and i didn't like that so much.

I don't think I'll predict who'll win the World Cup....each time I been a score or 2 short...lol

Congrats Germany on 3rd place!

This is my first time watching any form of soccor, as an outsider I thought that I would not like it but I got into it. Two games stand out the most to me, the France vs Brazil game and the Germany vs. Italy game, IMO the better teams THAT DAY won...it might be something different on other day. I am routing for France myself cause I would like Zanedine get a world cup to retire on. He played amazing in that Brazil game and was the reason France won. France deserves to be there cause they beat Spain, Brazil, Portugal 3 count them 3 tough teams. Italy on the other hand upsets me with all the diving and crap, the diving is one of the things I **** the most in this game. I mean come on, man up you pandsies! Which is why I like the Germany vs Italy game, that ref HAS to do the final game, he was awesome! An Italian player took a dive he looked right at him and said GET UP!!! It was great, I mean lets face it... if it wasn't for the dive in the Aussie game they might not have made it this far. He made Italy earn that win and they did, MAKE THE PLAYERS EARN THE WIN!!! That is way I look at it...

Dang Portugal lost...good showing being in 4th place...placed better than Argentina,England,Brazil and many many more great teams...nothing to be ashamed of

Except that there is no official "forth place" - to the best of my knowledge there's the winner, runner-up, third place...

And that's it.

While on the subject of Portugal though, according to the BBC, Cristiano Ronaldo says he wants to leave Old Trafford.

"I think I should get out of Manchester as the circumstances are not right to keep playing there," he's been quoted as saying.

"Nobody stood up for me, although I did not do anybody any harm. In two or three days I'll decide where to go."

Ronaldo has three years left on his United contract and boss Sir Alex Ferguson said last week he expected the player to report for pre-season training.

Germany played really well last night to beat Portugal 3-1. I was happy to see that Klinsman had given Khan a farewell game as well. Considering he's 38, he managed to play a belter of a game. The one goal he did concede was a scorcher, no-one would have saved it.

On the other hand, Portugal played a wee bit badly. How they managed to get this far in the tornament is anyone's guess really. I have calmed down enough now to admit that Ronaldo plays well, especially against the Germans, as he wasn't falling around all over the place. Figo played really well too, he is probably the best player in the Portugal team.

I'm looking forward to the final now, after losing interest after England got kicked out. Can you imagine what it would be like to be Zidane, winning the world cup when it is your last game of professional football ever? I think it will be a close one, but hope that France win it.

I hope it too...france must win this WM...since Italy kicked out our super team, i don´t go to any italian ice caffees....the two goals at the end of the 119 minute were just luck...the temperature was very high, the condition of the german team was at his limit...and all expected a 11meter end...anyway, i hope france will beat italy...

to the english fans...what do you think, how long ronaldo can survive near Wayne Rooney....hehehee

I'm sure even now, that Portugal are having a special commemorative trophy made with the inscription:
'Fourth place in 2006 world cup - so much better than fifth, but not quite as good as third'

Hopefully Ronaldo with get his 'Big-Cheatin' bastard of the tournament award, very soon...

Oh Zidane, what were you thinking?

so the world cup comes down to penalties... what a fucking waste

Agreed. Zidane lost luster on that stupid ass headbutt.

The Cup should go back to "Golden Goal", because...the most important games are being decided ...on PKs? Not good.

OK....this was the chanc efor France to show one of two things. Either they would show that their strength went beyond their captain, or they would show just how much Zidane meant to the team......unfortunately, they showed the latter. :******:
