My God has a bigger dick than your God!

In the Bullshit Department, a businessman can't hold a candle to a clergyman. 'Cause I gotta tell you the truth, folks. When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time...But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!

George Carlin did say it best, Unfortunately not enough people will listen to reason. They believe in a thing called faith, they think it makes them special and strong. Its this very concept all religions seek to bolster as it helps propagate it.

Its also connected to the concept of a void, The void that people strive to usually fill with the material those that reach a limit to their capabilities for acquiring material gains or those who have it all yet feel empty or incomplete in some way then try to plug it with religion.

The void is ingrained in nearly every culture and is probably a by product of religion so in a way religion still to this day works well as an apparatus of state and societies. Keeps the whole thing on the go. Only through technological might will we evolve past such shit and then perhaps even the material will not be as important though I find it highly likely we will implode or become extinct before reaching such a pinnacle.

It's also connected to a hatred of humanity and disgust with the human body, at least as far as the middle eastern religions are concerned.

That's why there's all these weirdo cleansing rituals, hysteria about sex and an obsession with the idea of purity which says humans are born as filthy, wretched scum and must spend their lives in submission to make up for it.

Basically they're just a bunch of haters.

Yup, their entire agenda is based on excusing their god for creating death, suffering and "evil". Making up shit is natural when you're lazy and fear reality but it's also natural to believe in things that can be justified. This is exactly why most theists are ignorant and the educated theists still can't defend their beliefs in the same way they do for beliefs that make sense.

^^ Well, to some religion can make someone feel strong. And some take that to the extreme and they think they are invincible.

To others, religion makes a person humble, and know there is something out there greater than him. Then there are those who prey on them and make them feel weak, and guilty.

The first in those groups are okay, IMO. The others are not.

I have my faith and beliefs, but can definitely see how religion can be dangerous.

Those Jainists are a crazy, life-loving bunch of screwballs!!

They're right.............and it does. In time you'll agree.

But faith in what? Genocide? White supremecy? Gender superiority? Faith is blind and subjective. It has no evidence and so you might as well call faith ego.

Faith in something beyond, in something greater that we're a part of.

All organized religion is a crutch for weak minded people!:stir:

If one person has an imaginary friend, he's called crazy. If a bunch of people have the same imaginary friend, it's called religion.

Heelarious!

Have anyone ever noticed that the people who are most vocal about their religious beliefs almost never want to hear about yours?

Their effect on society is a negative:

Societies worse off 'when they have God on their side

RELIGIOUS belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today.

According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems.

The study counters the view of believers that religion is necessary to provide the moral and ethical foundations of a healthy society.
