I have to admit if it wasn't for USC today where would the pros get enough first round draft picks that turn out to be underperforming disappointments.

Yeah, Clemson will be fine, they just came into the Alabama game a little too sure of themselves and Saban had his team ready to play for blood. I still say Clemson should play for the ACC title this season.

Jason, I feel for ya, my dad went to AU... lucky for me he's not too rabid. I went to many AU games growing up, but the first time I went to Tuscaloosa, it just felt like home to me. FYI, my little sister is getting a grad degree at UF right now... and I certainly remember the UF-UA battles when I was in school in the early 90s for the SEC!

lol.. thats cool.. I might see her some time. How old is she??

Ohio State won 26-14, but I think the next poll will have them out of the Top 5. Of course, how far they drop depends on how the rest of the games play out tonight

Na.. They wont drop out. They still won the game. Style pionts don't matter much. I can't wait for the Gator game 2nite.. Anybody on here a U fan? Go Gators!

Well let's give this year's crop a chance to play a game or two before we make this assessment:(

I am shocked that MAtt Leinart has had trouble. Did we all forget his Monday Night debut against da bears where he tore them apart? Reggie Bush is also another mystery. He really should be clowning the NFL..if not this season, than never I'm afraid...:(

It seems that these guys either get distracted in the NFL or they realize that the college game offers a much better quality of life than the Pros.....

Ohio State's crappy performance today is not indicative of how well they will play next week. I'm pretty sure along with the Ohio U infopak the coaches passed out to the players last week, they passed out an even fatter USC infopak and the Luckeyes spent too much time studying those Trojan handouts...

Notre Dame on the otherhand....yikes. How crappy they really are...the game turned on a "suspect" goaline fumble for the Aztecs. I think ND is about a 5 win team and Fatty McWeis will be packing up his office in December...Jimmy Clausen is the next Ron Powlus. It's true!

No doubt you're right about them looking ahead, but I still think your Trojans are going to beat them pretty handily.

Omg they're horrible :1orglaugh

If this keeps up I might actually start to feel a bit sorry for them, which has heretofore been an unfathomable concept :D

When does their contract with NBC run out?
Not soon enough for the network, I'm sure :1orglaugh

Well it's more than just those two though, but they are the most noticeable ones at this point. At least Carson Palmer has come out like expected. I have seen a theory on why USC people might underperform that made sense when I read it though. I think the person who said it stated that USC in recent years has really had a ton of legitimate 2 and 3 round players all on one team at the same time year after year, more than most teams. Football is one of those sports where how well players perform is highly influenced by other members of the team and how well they do. It's not like baseball where how well the guy hitting behind somebody doesn't really impact that person much. In football the linemen, QB, back and receivers all help each other and if they are all together it makes them better than the sum or their parts and makes individuals seem better than what they are. So guys who would normally be third round draft choices get to look like first rounders with all the talent around them. I don't know if that's the case with USC, but it's believable. Then again other dominate programs didn't always seem affected by that. For example, if you go back to when Miami seemed like an invincible powerhouse and was practically a NFL factory, sure they had people that didn't cut it in the pros, but they also had a good number of people that became what people thought they were.

Mike Williams is another example of a USC Stud/NFL Bust...and I admit that I didn't think he'd be a bust. He was SOOO dominant in College. He just clowned every opponent and (arguably) put USC on the map, singlehandedly. Most Pros thought he'd have to play TE in the NFL (which he didn't want to do, for some reason) and he was not "highly" recruited as a WR ---Florida wanted him to play Safety. USC let him play WR.

Lofa Tatupu and Troy Polamalu and Carson have been the only Trojan Pros who've really lived up to the hype. Even guys like Sean Cody, Mike Patterson, Steve Smith, Dominique Byrd have not exactly made fans cream...for a porn-appropriate metaphor.....

There are some interesting players to watch this season---Keith Rivers of the Bungals(?), Sedrick Ellis of the Saints....we'll see what happens.

Miami players, FSU players...generally do live up to the hype. I'd have to say Meatchicken and Ohio State have a pretty decent record of turning their stars into NFL stars too...

Congrats to the Buckeyes on their impressive win over the Bobkittens of Ohio U!! :D

Actually, I'm looking at the finals from yesterday. OSU will drop. Florida ought to bump up to 4 because there's was the more impressive victory IMO. OK beat Cincy handily but gave up 27 points. Georgia gave up 17 to CMich and I bet didn't cover. Missouri's win was also impressive against a weaker opponent. We'll have to see Monday.

Ohio St. should definitely drop in the poles after their performance against Ohio.

^^
Or the country of Poland might be able to field a squad that could wipe the field with this season's buckeye team!

The Buckeyes played like shit and deserved to drop in the rankings. I think they were CLEARLY focusing on the SC game. They will not play that bad in LA. I am still thinking a USC 27 OSU 19 win seems about right...it'll be a close, good game. Beanie should be back.

What???

Auburn just got past S. Miss. Alabama did not play well against bottom feeder Tulane.

I agree it was not at all a fine game by the Bucks, but they did win by 12.

7 of those points were earned near the end of the game on that punt return.

I think that if a ranked team, especially a top 10 team, has a "close" game against a completely unranked, no-chance-in-hell-of-winning kind of team, then they should either drop in the rankings SIGNIFICANTLY or end up not being ranked at all. IMO.
