The issue of the surge came up last night and in the McCain / Obama debate too. The fact is we were sold a list of falsehoods to get us there, and it's been handled and mismanaged to grow from liberation in Iraqi minds to a major disaster. Bush recently stated the lesson of Vietnam was, "Don't give up". According to all the books I've read on Iraq the only reason for the surge was to fix the extreme damage to the "cause", due to that mismanagement. So a lot of work to put out the fire they threw gasoline on called the surge becomes the sticking point, that McCain wants Obama to agree was successful. What successful? They screwed up royally again, and so fixed some of it. In Obama's mind what has that got to do with being in an unjust war anyway? The bigger point is we shouldn't be there.

Lots of people in Darfur can use the US military's help right now.

Vietnam's lesson was dont give up? If he meant the South Koreans should not give up, sure. If he meant America.. WTF? That was was so hated it wasnt even funny. The lesson there is stay the fuck away from other people's fights!

Are they fapping? It almost looks like they are. Are those campaign managers or perverts that snuck in?

The lesson of Vietnam was stay out of other's fights particularly when you claim, freedom, democracy, and justice and all those other inspiring words, and then delibrately go with the wrong side because of your own interests. Just like Iraq. High speed in the wrong direction against the wrong people and look at the mess. Yes, Darfur needs the help but is ignored. If they had oil, the US would be there to fight for freedom, democracy and justice and all those other inspiring words.

Begs the question of why the US supports Israel, IMHO.

The Saudis simply for the oil and military presence.

Maybe someone should ask Palin about Isreal.

Two reasons (imo).
- an INCREDIBLY powerful Jewish lobby
- ignorant neo-cons that still think America needs Israel

Why? Since the Katie Couric interview, her 'people' probably won't
allow her to publicly utter an original thought until after the election.

Though I assume you already know my above points.

The latest accurate census count of Jewish Americans ranges from 6 million to 6.4 million. Many Jewish Americans are barely practicing Jews, so you just throw out the same propaganda used worldwide for centuries to justify the specific genocide of the Jewish population...I assume you have researched the facts behind your statement?
For instance, how many Christians are in the Evangelical Lobby? Evangelicals want all the Jews there are to return to Israel to bring about the "End of Days".
How many lobbiests are there in the Jewish Lobby? Who are they and why do they have so much influence?
What is the overwhelming American interest in Israel?
How many American citizens are there in Israel?
Does the United States recieve any benefit from association with Israel?
Have you used your cell phone lately?
Besides Israel, what other country is an active working ally of the USA in the region? Any working "Democracies", any countries that haven't participated in killing American citizens both past and present? Besides Israel, I mean...
Do you advocate leaving the country of Israel to fend for itself, and begin supporting the monarchies and repressive religious and totaltarian regimes that compose the majority of the Middle East?
Or do you believe in sucking up at all costs to keep the oil flowing so you can keep working and driving around in your car?
These are serious questions, I would love to hear the rationale behind such a powerful, specific statement.

[Old Jewish joke...in light of your post, not so funny:

After the assassination of Tsar Alexander II of Russia, a government official in Ukraine menacingly addressed the local rabbi. "I suppose you know in full detail who was behind it."

"Ach," the rabbi replied, "I have no idea, but the government's conclusion will be the same as always: they will blame the Jews and the chimneysweeps."

"Why the chimneysweeps?" asked the befuddled official.

"Why the Jews?" responded the rabbi. ]

How many lobbiests are there in the Jewish Lobby?
I was mistaken. I should refer to it as the Israel lobby.
A simple Google search should answer your other questions.

As for leaving Israel to fend for itself? Absolutely. Just as I believe America should let ALL countries fend for themselves; outside of humanitarian aid.
The exceptions being things like WW1&2, the Korean War and Desert Storm 1.

Let me type slowly...you believe the Israeli Lobby is hugely powerful, a country thousands of miles away with absolutely no oil, a population of around 6 million (many of whom are Christian, Muslim, and various other religious and cultural groups)...these people have a hugely powerful lobby that controls American interests in a specific way?
Can you tell me how this happens...even in a general way? Where does Israel get these superbeings, and shouldn't we be listening to such awesome people if they can wield such a major influence over the American government with no real power, no real bargaining chips, and no actual billions of Dollars in petroleum?
Or are you just jerking out collective chain with unsupported statements, put forth by various anti-Israeli groups knowing there will always be those who believe the negative, without any checking the facts?
I mean...there are so many benefits from the US asociation with Israel, but these seem to be unknown to you and others posting on this board.
You should take your own suggestion and use Google, check on the history of Palestine (a recently created name for a non existent place, and a non-people); actual orign of the Palestinians (Jordanians mostly) and population history of the area now called Israel (and for many thousands of years).
How many technilogical contributions have come from Israel, and how much have the Islamic countries given to the world (outside of oil and wholesale murder as a political tool)?
You seem a bit dogmatic on the subject, and a bit undereducated.
That seems to be the fashion in this silly season, dogma replacing contemplative reason and rational discourse.

Well, for a start (off the top of my head), check out 'Israel lobby' at Wikipedia.
Yes, this site is not always a solid source. But in this case, I think it's a good start.

And btw, I am neither pro nor anti-Israel.

Another well written but dishonest article by someone earning a paycheck.
I mean...what is the percentage of any country's kids who know non-relevant stuff like number of representatives in the government, or where any specific country is? I know a lot of stuff, but not everything.
How does that relate to Sarah Palin being popular?
Obama has been overtly dishonest about so much...but he's a viable candidate 'cause he's popular.
All of us know about things outside of our neighborhood, and after travelling and living in many countries and American states before now, how is it that I can't have an accurate opinion on somewhere other than where I live? That is a big point in the article...ignorant people being swayed by their feelings instead of agreeing with the author's point of view.
Good read, but not to be taked seriously.

1) I agree with Philbert that as a westernized democracy with nuclear capacity Israel serves us very well as an ally in that region.

2) LBP is correct that AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committe) is one of the nation's most influential lobbies.

It is about a cultural atmosphere that has come to be disdainful and to distrust those who sound educated. And it is about the danger of illiteracy for democracy.

There's a lot of truth in that. A large segement of our society all but sneers at intellectuals (and diplomats) these days. The dumbing down of America is a reality. Dan Quayle and Dubya exemplified that in some ways. In some quarters it almost seems like it's cool to be stupid. And the author's right; that's a dangerous formula for a democracy.

Great point bodie!! I would like too know how all these Dumb fucktards like bush get too be the president of the USA when they act like, and speak like they are as dumb as a sack of rocks??

With all the politicians having had the luxury of attending such prestigious schools as bush and all of his cronies?? how did all of these DUMBASS politicians get so dumb and out of touch with the poor middle-class Americans needs???

I am completely mortified that our government is run by the old whiteboy network which rules and dictates the government landscape??

I think the government should be comprised of middle class citizens *(NOT MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES)* who have never worked or suffered a day in their greedy fuckin lives, unlike the rest of us Americans who know what it feels like to be the unlucky people who catch and drowned in all the RICH peoples :bs: that's forever raining down on us??:eek::dunno:

Bush isn't an intellectual, but at the same time I don't think he's stupid. Narrow minded and willful, yes. But not stupid. The fact he's a horrible public speaker makes him come across that way, and doesn't set a good example.

I've got nothing against the wealthy, so long as they aren't unprincipled bastards like those AIG execs who took a taxpayer-paid luxury vacation in the midst of a financial crisis.

Can't believe some people don't realize how much the Israeli lobby is driving our disastrous foreign policy in the Mid East. Within two(2) days of being named VP nominee Palin had to have an audience with the very powerful AIPAC :

Imperial Hubris (by Michael Scheuer ex CIA head of 'Bin Laden unit') can shed much light on this subject.

Has anyone noticed how hot she keeps looking when she comes out in those tight dress...nah most of yah are into Hillary's pant dress and her short hair thingie with her big momma's ass.

Some of these conservatives women are very freaky on the bed I think Sarah's got a hot brunette bush (no pun) down yonder

I certainly DON'T SEE what everybody is going NUTS over? Sarah Palin is NOT hot, pretty, or remotely attractive, she is NOT even kind of hot IMO! :2 cents:
Who cares about that stuff, you stupid he-bitches.

Sarah Palin is sex on legs.

I don't fuckin get it!! ::CONFUSED:: I think she is pretty nasty!!

I'd fuck Sarah Palin. The porn star FRIDAY kind of resembles Palin, especially when Fridaywears eyeglasses. If Friday is smart, she'd jumpstart her salabiltity by dressing conservatively, wearing glasses and styling her hair like Palin's. Watching Friday in that guise, take on a big black cock would be lik watching Sarah Palin going black!

Does the entire nation / world? have beer goggles on or something? :wtf:

I am pretty damn stealthy when it comes too pointing out sexy girls / women and Sarah Palin DEFINITELY doesn't fit that bill either!!<<( PUN DEFINITELY INTENDED!!! LMAO) IMO she pretty much equals!!! :pukey:

Read Imperial Hubris.

If you recall, one of Bin Ladens reasons for the attack in NY was the US involvement in Isreal. If the US is anywhere it's for strategic reasons and has little to do with God, humanitarianism or conscience.

I've said many times this is culture that prides itself on goof ball stupidity in culture and education.

The only thing I think Palin is capable of negotiating is a discount on seal meat from the local butcher in Nome, Alaska.

Two online films concerned with the dumbing down of America;

Newswar
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/newswar/view/

In a four-part special series, News War, FRONTLINE examines the political, cultural, legal, and economic forces challenging the news media today and how the press has reacted in turn. Through interviews with key figures in print, broadcast and electronic media over the past four decades -- and with unequaled, behind-the-scenes access to some of today's most important news organizations, FRONTLINE traces the recent history of American journalism, from the Nixon administration's attacks on the media to the post-Watergate popularity of the press, to the new challenges presented by the war on terror and other global forces now changing -- and challenging -- the role of the press in our society.

Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992)
http://www.moviesfoundonline.com/manufacturing_consent.php

"This film showcases Noam Chomsky, one of America's leading linguists and political dissidents. It also illustrates his message of how government and big media businesses cooperate to produce an effective propaganda machine in order to manipulate the opinions of the United States populous. The key example for this analysis is the simultaneous events of the massive coverage of the communist atrocities of Khmer Rouge regime of Cambodia and the suppression of news of the US supported Indonesian invasion and subjugation of East Timor." -imdb.com
