Xman That won't happen either. it is over a year until the mid terms. an eternity. They may take a hit in the house but not by much. As for congressional poll numbers, everybody hates the congressman they don't vote for but loves theirs. Obama is for all intents and purposes a lame duck. And historically second term president doesn't make huge gains for his party. Obama has bucked a few trends but it is not going to be the asskicking in .14 that they say it will be. if Obama gets his poll numbers back in the 50's then maybe. He is in the 30's which is typical with 2nd term presidents.

I wouldn't hinge my hopes on "unskewed polls", like Sam did in his epic fail "landslide" Romney predictions. What I'm saying is that the Tea Party scorched earth policy is going to end up burning the GOP if they don't reign it in. Do you see me suggesting that they reign it in? I don't predict a 352-80 split in the House, but it could certainly be a much more solid majority than the republicans have right now. If Obama has an heir apparent it won't matter if he's a lame duck.

In 1991 GHWB had a 80 approval rating and was thrown out 18 months later. The dems were in disarray and had people like Paul Tsongas and Jerry Moonbeam as presumptive front runners. Then some dude from Arkansas that was booed of the DNC stage 4 years earlier takes the country by storm. Anything can happen in a short time. and i can guarantee you have watched fox news since i have. I never post WND and CNS stories or polls. I don't make predictions. I read tea leaves and give opinion.

Bush 1 got fucked because he did what he had to do. he said "read my lips no new taxes" then had a war and had to raise taxes to be logical. they crucified him and handed Ross Perot 19% of the vote.

Again Mariah is wrong Perot didn't cost Bush the election. Even most liberals agree that Clinton would have won without Perot in the race. And a lot think that Perot cost Clinton more votes than Bush. Research it.

I get the feeling this is all by design. Is this working to plan? The House leaders no long have control over the members. The rules favor minority interference over majority rule. Certainly a balance against the tyranny of the majority, but not quite democratic.

There is an element in the Republican party that would very much like to see the government humbled. Is that what is happening now?

Obama isn't negotiating with the House. Who can blame him? Still its a failure. Public opinion is with him, the Republicans are asking for too much, and some say he already made concessions. Still this is on his watch.

Like Boehner or not, he has little control of a party that is being driven by the loudest voices. That is a failure in leadership as well.

I can't help but think this is exactly the outcome some want.

(Not to mention the debt. Forget about the issue of raising the limit or not...the debt is an issue nobody is actually spending time on.)

well considering the west put Saddam in power and then turned on him so abruptly I had to dig a little further into desert storm and I what my research lead me to was the fact that before desert storm, Saddam was taking payment for his oil shipments in dollars (that was one of the main arrangements that was setup in order for him to stay in power), Saddam after taking payment in dollars for so many years, decided that he was going to start asking for payment for oil in euros, furthermore he was asking to be paid at a cheaper euro rate as compared to us dollars and that is a big NO NO, dollar INC must remain king throughout the world, hence IMO this was the main driving catalyst for desert storm, that "highway of death" was the road that Saddam was using to ship his oil out to the countries that were paying Iraq with euros and one of the main targets that the US military took out was that highway, the main reason it was destroyed IMO was so no more oil shipments could be made in exchange for euros, yup it always come back to the damn money SMH

Don't get me wrong Mike. I like you and I like Peter King but you certainly sound a lot like the perfect Peter King constituent.

They asked for a 1 year delay and more cuts. There is also misinformation being thrown out there that it is only the Tea Party doing this when even moderate Republicans are wanting these cuts and delay also.

The way I see this mess, from the outside, is that the Republicans are not trying to get a 1 year delay at all. They are starting with a 1 year delay so that they can continue to work on removing ACA from the statue books altogether.

You never addressed larss' point. Remind us why republicans want a 1 year delay.

They know that the ACA is a lost cause. They are really after the cuts. Like when I recommend a 401k disbursement in a divorce settlement. I am really after something else. 401k will make a person vapor lock.

So would you characterize it as game playing by the Speaker of the House?

I would characterize it as a game called a rock and a hard place. Dude politics is a game. And as they say, it ain't beanbag.

The game that is really being played is Obama's. But Boehnor doesn't realize it. When you suffer a loss in your personal income you have to prioritize. Obama is playing the game more than anyone by claiming that default is imminent, it doesn't have to be. We have enough receipts to pay the interest.

At any rate, the current budget is at GOP sequester levels. What you're saying is that the Republicans are being greedy and trying to do an end zone dance. Tick tick tick, that grenade at the feet of the GOP is bound to explode.

Look it up yourself. Try OMB. Then calculate the interest on 16.7 tril. George Will had the numbes the other day. I first priority should be paying the interest of 20 bil a month even if the debt ceiling is not raised. Just like yot may ask for the bank to allow you to make interest payments on your mortgage if you were in a tight. It would top your list.

I know you hope so. A quick question, since the ACA is the law of the land and all, has any other laws of the land ever been repealed before? I'll hang up and listen.
