I get the feeling this is all by design. Is this working to plan? The House leaders no long have control over the members. The rules favor minority interference over majority rule. Certainly a balance against the tyranny of the majority, but not quite democratic.
There is an element in the Republican party that would very much like to see the government humbled. Is that what is happening now?
Obama isn't negotiating with the House. Who can blame him? Still its a failure. Public opinion is with him, the Republicans are asking for too much, and some say he already made concessions. Still this is on his watch.
Like Boehner or not, he has little control of a party that is being driven by the loudest voices. That is a failure in leadership as well.
I can't help but think this is exactly the outcome some want.
(Not to mention the debt. Forget about the issue of raising the limit or not...the debt is an issue nobody is actually spending time on.)
