Paying more taxes is Patriotic?

^^^This is called "Maverick" thinking and it usually comes from spending countless hours inside a tax payer funded tanning bed fighting "daylight deprivation depression."

I wonder what McCain's position is on tanning beds given his medical history.

Patriotic? Absolutely. There is no mandatory military service in this country. There's no law that says you should ever vote or give your opinion. You dont even have to have a job to live in this country. You wont starve, you wont freeze to death. Being homeless in America is very possible. It's a nation full of whiners.

I agree that there is plenty of money misused and wasted no matter WHAT section of society. Restaurants, banks, government and private. But.. what you're against is completely ludicrous.

Do you want to pay taxes, or do you want to go out and pave the roads yourself? Pay taxes? Oh damn! That's my money! I need an extra bottle of Jose Cuervo. Pay taxes? Homeless dont deserve any tax money! Bah!

What you're paying for is going to meaningful programs a huge majority of the time. You dont want to pay for the privilege of living in this society, go to Mexico. You're paying for people to maintain your own quality of life in America. Supermarkets, high speed internet connections and free porn. You bite the hand that feeds you all this?

...Ungrateful citizen that needs a year in iraq or cuba.

I don't claim to know shit about politics and taxes, but when 1/3 of my check is taken out for tzex every 2 weks, yet there's still tons of potholes in my city, as well as the closing of every city mission, library and hospital but 2, something isn't right.

Doing whatever I think is right for humanity is my goal.

I don't give a fuck about 'patriotism'.

I have seen too many people ill-treated or worse in the name of 'patriotism'.

Spleen

Banned?
Sounds like something the American government would say though.

That or "Pay more taxes... For freedom"

I believe in a flat tax. The poor pay nothing and everyone else pays the same rate.

Oh god I hate that idea lol. That would mean somebody making $50,000 pays the same rate as someone making $ 1,000,000.No taxes should be progressive with the more you make the higher percentage you pay.

And on this thing about paying taxes being patriotic.First I would say it is patriotic to not run up huge deficts and pass them on to future generations. And 2nd to anyone who supports the wars and the military budget for sure they should think taxes are their "patritotic duty".If you are willing to support sending americans to fight and die in wars you should at least be willing to pay the taxes for such things.
But for the record if I had my way everyone even the rich would pay less in taxes. It would still be a progressive tax system where those with greater wealth would pay higher rates but everyone would pay less. This would be accomplished by disengaging from our overseas wars and cutting back the defense spending from the roughly 500 billion a year(that doesn't include the wars) to about 50 billion a year saving 450 billion dollars plus the who knows how many hundred of billions the wars are costing a year. Plus we will reform the health care system to a universal single payer system which would save about 300 billion a year.We gotta stop thinking we can just waste so much money on such things forever and running up huge deficits,it's all gonna come crashing down if we don't stop.

I'm poor I barely get $9000 dollars a year and thats not even enough to live on! I'm glad I don't have to pay tax, then it would be even harder to survive.

I'm sorry you guys have to pay taxes!

About paying taxes. Why do people have so much trouble with this?

It's like paying your bills. When you get a credit card bill, you have to pay it, and that takes a portion of your income. The higher the balance, the more you pay.

When you run up about $7 Trillion in debt during your administration because of selfish motives and extremely bad judgement, you can only run off more Monopoly money for so long on your copier before people get tired of that and want real value, not bits of green paper and promises to repay anymore.

Any politician who says they won't raise taxes is either ignoring this basic fact of paying back what is owed or is crazy.

China and Japan are owed about $1 Trillion each, and so far are allowing minimum payments in dollars which lose value every time there is another investment bank bailout or week spent in this fiasco called Iraq.

Who pays a greater share of that tax is the question. Because of trickle down economics the claim has been, when big business makes more profit, they expand and employ more people at higher pay putting the money back into the economy. But that doesn't happen. Big business owners typically keep more for themselves while shipping jobs overseas, and laying off workers at home that used to fund the economy.

The only other scenario to not pay and get away with it is build a bigger military and telll the rest of the world to go screw when they come to collect. That seems to have been the promise of people running for President like Mitt Romney and Rudy Giulani, and up until about last week, both George Bush told us that people didn't get it, the economy was in great shape and McCain promised the fundamentals of the economy are sound. Now they say it's not! After maybe everyone else knows how bad it is!

Is this good judgement? Insight? Or, public relations people trying to create a new image for this guy, so he gets his own interest groups back into the money? :dunno:

I used to feel that way.
But now I believe that we should all be taxed equally. Why should someone who is good at making money be punished for that skill?
The only exception being for those who make over $1 million a year in income. They should be taxed much higher.

Yea that's what we have continued to do under the Bush administration and we have seen where that has gotten us. Actually no, I think we should stick with the same economic plans that have gotten us in a recession.

This one we probably won't get out of. But they probably thought that in the early 30's also, and even then, fortunes were made for a few. Within 15 years, WW2 boosted the economy.

Water.

Nestle Co. pays a local Florida government $150 a year for a permit to take water from a natural spring. They bottle it and make millions of dollars, while Florida remains in a water crisis situation, with a lack of clean drinking water.

Yea you would think like in the past of American history war has boosted the economy but not this stupid ass war. I think we should do what pubs want and eventually are money will be worth basically nothing.

As you say I think most historians would say the US was never really out of the depression until we got production going for WW2.Too bad we can't have another good big war, damn nukes!

Give him a break. He's been trying. He only has a few months left to do something incredibly stupid, or has to have McCain take over and fly the plane. (Oh, I shouldn't have put it that way).

I say we take over mexico and canada. Mexico first, though. Stem off those dang border jumpers! lol

After working our way down to the border of South America, we build a huge wall right there and start throwing down towns, forts and bases. Maybe put down some miniguns and build a chronosphere...

Then we take out Canada just cuz. Dang canucks. Then Alaska can be part of the CONUS! I mean like.. really part of it. Build some minimalls, start moving in the illegals and make sure their governors are actually prepared to govern something besides friggin' ICE CUBES!

This message brought to you by: Stereotypes. Just run with it, it's funny.

Some of that has been proposed albeit in a film I posted a link to, that had to do with taking over N. America.

Now to be fair, what has the US done in Asia, Latin America, South America, Europe, and the Middle East that hasn't been in the name of democracy and freedom? Nothing!

No one answered my earlier question why if the invasion of Iraq was temporary, did the US build the largest by far military base ever on the banks of the Euphrates?

And on taxes, current and new: Who wants credit card charges for things they didn't need and didn't want, showing up on their bills?

Keep the freaking Joint Strike Fighter, and give me back my 38% tax on income!

:dunno:

I hear ya,just think of the multitude of benefits. As you say no more border problems with mexico. Then we could when we got to nicaraugua do what Edward Teller (the father of the H-bomb) proposed. He wanted to blow open using H-bombs a replacement for the panama canal, operation plowshare he called it.We could use that as a new wider canal that the super tankers would fit into as well as a natural wall of water against the people south of it.
And on Canada our going up there and conquering them is already in the cards I think. When due to climate change our grain belt moves north into Canada we will have too.flylicker

And since neithier is a nuclear power what could stop us? Plus both have oil ,man thats a helluva of a good idea Torre!!!:hatsoff:

Why thank you. It only took me 3 minutes to think of, and then lay out the simplest plan. But simple plans work, complex ones tend to fail.. so yeah! :D

I believe we're marking our territory. Pissong on their trees, taking a dump in their front yard. That's the American thing to do. Install a democracy, (yeah right) then make sure there's a nearby base in case we need to reinstall windows. I mean a democracy. *PAGE FAULT, REBOOT DICTATOR*

Well, actually the $700 billion carte blanche to give the economy announced today on top of the $900 billion already there to bail out the very wealthy financial corporations I think will bring that total to 1.6Trillion in debt that wasn't there at the beginning of this year.

Printing more green paper will help temporarily but as I've said, this won't last, particularly because all those great US manufacturing corps. have moved production overseas. Don't worry, don't worry, the people who did the moving will make the big bucks, but seeing that Chinese people now want the, (soon to be old), luxury lifestyles of Americans, those cheap goods will probably quadruple in price in the next 5 year as it's their turn to move into the city, and drive BMW's and wear Rolex watches. Don't, don't worry. The Walton family will survive this, and I am sure layoffs will be minimal.

Paying more taxes is only good if you are a big fan of a fatter more bloated federal government. I'm not against taxes, I just don't really trust the Washington politicians who handle the money...

True...but I trust CEOs and the wealthy even less with it.
