Canadiens got Tanguay, nice reinforcement.
Is it just me, or is Sundin reminding everyone of Brett Favre?
The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired restricted free agent defenseman Andrej Meszaros (AWN-dray MEHT-zahr-ohsh) from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defensemen Filip Kuba and Alexandre Picard as well as San Jose’s first-round pick in 2009 (previously acquired), executive vice president of hockey operations Brian Lawton announced.
Meszaros is a great pickup for Tampa. good job new owners

Eastern Conference
1.Philadelphia Flyers(most deep roster in the NHL besides Detroit)
2.Montreal Canadiens(not second best in the East, but their division sucks)
3.Washington Capitals(Theodore will be the difference)
4.Pittsburgh Penguins(not as good as people think)
5.New York Rangers(forwards are weak, but Lundqvist and D bumps them up)
6.Tampa Bay Lightning(Goaltending is suspect, but lineup has firepower)
7.New Jersey Devils(People are in for a surprise with this team, they're good)
8.Ottawa Senators(Jason Smith was a quality addition, great leadership skills)
9.Buffalo Sabres(Could see a major rebound year from these guys)
10.Carolina Hurricanes(Good young team with talent, just not enough)
11.Boston Bruins(Goaltending won't be good enough)
12.Toronto Maple Leafs(Lucky they outrank anybody)
13.Florida Panthers(Who's going to score? D is good, but no O)
14.Atlanta Thrashers(Kovalchuk and nobody)
15.New York Islanders(Really bad team)
Western Conference
1.Detroit Red Wings(Back-to-back Stanley Cups is an inevitability)
2.Calgary Flames(It all depends on Kiprusoff)
3.Dallas Stars(Very good team, expect a good year here)
4.San Jose Sharks(Their D looks improved and formidable)
5.Colorado Avalance(I expected big things last year, but maybe this year)
6.Anaheim Ducks(Could be better if Selanne decides to play)
7.Phoenix Coyotes(Gretzky is a very underrated coach and Jokinen is huge)
8.Chicago Blackhawks(Very impressive last season, hard to predict)
9.Minnesota Wild(Losing talent year after year)
10.Edmonton Oilers(Want them higher, but would be wishful thinking. GO OIL!)
11.Nashville Predators(People expect more, but I don't think so)
12.St. Louis Blues(Eric Brewer is a shut-down defender, but team is weak)
13.Vancouver Canucks(All that cap space, all that room for improvement)
14.Columbus Blue Jackets(Love Rick Nash, but team is not good)
15.Los Angeles Kings(Horrible team only got worse in the offseason)
Stanley Cup predicition is Detroit vs. Philadelphia and, of course, Detroit winning it all.
Where is the love for my Blue Jackets? They should be much improved.
My prediction for the cup is Detroit winning it vs Pitsburgh again this year .
Toronto Maple Leafs! End of discussion!![]()
Even though I am diehard REDWINGS fan it is extremely hard to win the stanley cup two consecutive years these days in the NHL!!
DETROIT COULD WIN AGAIN! but it will be hard to do considering other teams have improved and there are so many variables to consider in the run for the cup, upsets, good and bad matchups as far as what team you have to play, injuries, playing your best when it counts!, goaltending etc..etc.. I HOPE THE REDWINGS WIN THE 2009 STANLEY CUP!!!! but we will see??
Dallas, San Jose, and Anahiem will have a say in the playoffs! and I write this because I am trying to be as realistic as I can about the chances of 4-6 teams having a shot @ winning the west and advance too the cup finals! :hatsoff:
and that being said I DON'T think the PENGUINS will be the team representing the EAST in the cup finals! the PENGUINS will not be as lucky or as good as they were this past season!! I think they lost too much, and HOSSA leaving them is HUGE!! penguins are good but will suffer IMO!
Montreal is gonna be really good, ottawa should be better! the flyers are either good or very bad we'll have to wait and see which team shows up in regard to the flyers! the DEVILS always seem to be in the hunt! the capitals might be on the verge of making a run again! the east is really a toss up!! but when the dust settles I think MONTREAL or OTTAWA will be the EASTERN CONFERENCE WINNER! :hatsoff:
As for my hometown Oilers, they could honestly be a good dark horse pick. Kevin Lowe had a good offseason, acquiring Erik Cole and Lubomir Visnovsky. They had a surprisingly respectable season last year and were able to give some up-and-comers some valuable experience, which saw some pretty excellent results. If they can stay healthy, and Roloson and Garon play alright, then I can see the Oilers making the playoffs.
I, personally, would LOVE to see the Oilers make it to the playoffs and play Dallas. I remember around 2000 they would always play each other in the first round, usually with Dallas winning. That was one of the lone NHL games I ever went to, Dallas at Edmonton. We all had big foam sticks called 'Belfour boppers'. Edmonton sure knows how to make a hockey game fun.
Based on what? All they added was Huselius, which kind of cancels out losing Zherdev anyway.
don't forget, they also added R.J. Umberger
