Hippopotomus or Hippo is a chain restaurant in France comparable to our TGIF. The food is waaaaaaaaaay better checkout the steaks on their site and you'll see
I have had cheval burger before without knowing it at first but it turned out to be very tasty. We sold horse meat for food here in the US until the late 70s I think.
While driving around yesterday I stumbled upon an estate sale. These people were clearing out their father's house since they had to put him into a home and sell the place. I hit the kitchen and it was a jackpot. A huge collection of cast iron and I had been looking to get a set. Skillets and pots of various sizes with lids. A griddle and grill too. Nearly 20 pieces. Several pieces of that old metal enamel coated bake ware with the white speckles. 3 sizes of the same style roasters with lids.
I gave them a bullshit story that I was burnt out of my house and needed to restock my new kitchen. "What can I get for $100?" All of it. They also threw in these nifty old utensils, an old meat grinder that clamps onto a counter and a meat slicer that both crank by hand. They just wanted to get rid of the shit.
The cast has rust but that can be restored with some work. I've got a small kitchen with little storage so I bought an assortment of decorative hooks to hang this stuff from my walls and ceiling. Once I get that cast cleaned up I'll be cooking shit I could never do before.
Cool. Sounds like a gold mine and good stuff. (Cooking with other people stuff...no big deal for me...just clean it, which I suspect you did. I enjoy eating out and that strikes me as similar)
"I gave them a bullshit story that I was burnt out of my house and needed to restock my new kitchen." Why give them a bullshit story? Would they not have sold it to you if they didn't think you fell upon hard times? ...or is it the extra $50 that you saved for sympathy? I'm a fan of yours, Bobjustbob (sincerely), but if you're in NYC and have the time, I want to invite you to a lecture I give during a Business Ethics class I teach (although you're welcome to audit the course). (...now that I think of it I should make that into a podcast ) Not preaching. I respect you for what I've seen you posting here. Just challenging your thinking on an offshoot of your post. I'm sure you could challenge mind if I was lucky enough.
That household could have used those pots and pans in some sort of piss orgy... that's all I'm saying! - Always buy brand new.
Well... It wasn't like a hard luck story per say. I've done flea marketing and garage sales for many years. There are many ways to bargain in different situations. Here was a lot that I wanted just for the cast. The other items were nice but I could take them or leave them. If I started cherry picking them for what I wanted then that turns into a back and forth thing. Offering them $60 off the top for the cast might have been a sale or put them off. With that, they still want to move as much stuff as possible in a short time and the rest of the kitchen stuff they would have a hard time selling. $100 bucks is far more than they would have gotten for the cast and a chance for them to move some more stuff out. My fire story wasn't a cry for poverty. More like "this would be a nice one stop place to get lots of stuff at once."
Don't you wish you still looked like that? LOL
I apologize. I was on my high horse for some reason. Would you except an excuse of too much (damn good) coffee and a virtual handshake as an apology?
Went to brunch on Sunday and it was outstanding! Plantation on Crystal River
