I'm not going to shoot someone for robbing my apartment. Or stealing my car, if I had a car.

It's not that I don't think nothing harmful will ever happen to me. I've been harmed in the past. I will stand by my opinion, no matter what You Might say, and I have no desire to try to sway you to my side. Own a gun if you want, that's your personal choice. Not everyone needs to own a gun. If I don't want to own a gun, then I don't need to own one.

Sam, you are missing the point. As Harley points out, it is not that I think that bad things will not happen, I just feel that waving a gun about could cause worse things to happen. Even highly trained, you do not know how well your assailant can handle his firearm (if he has one), or what will happen to you if you shoot and kill (however right you may be) another human being.
Guns for sport is fine, and I'm sure can be great fun, but for protection I feel could cause a bad situation to become worse very quickly.
