No, and I never fired a shot.

I did fire ONE shot when I was 12, with my uncle's gun. I thought I was awesome but I was just a kid...

Now, I realised firearms bring more problem than they actualy solve problems
(Sam, this is just my opinion, I know you disagree, we've been talking about this about 100 times, we'll never agree with each other so let's not go through another arguing, OK ?)

Fair enough.

No and No. I did build a bow and arrow out of a tree branch and a shoelace when I was a kid. Arrows were made out of bamboo plant stakes with a nail inserted in the end backwards and two playing cards at the back. Wouldn't kill any one by any means, but could easily shoot it a hundred feet straight up and take out an eye or two.

I do have a 9 mm pistol loaded with hollow points.

Sorry Supa, but I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.

Where I lived, there WOULD have been problems. But everyone knew we had guns and knew how to use them too. As it was, we never had a problem in the 20+ years I lived there.
20+ years is a lot of problem solving in my book.

That is the dumbest arguement I´ve ever seen....

30+ years without a gun and no problems either... that tops your measly 20+ years, hence having no gun is safer.

How did you survive w/o a gun in Sweden? Or did some moose bull make you his bitch?

I have a few.

I have fired when I was in the army ... and at the moment I've got a small caliber weapon ... between my legs.

I'm seriously not trying to start a debate, but your point only looks good on paper. Several months ago there was that family that was everything you describe above. House broken into, Dad beaten, Mom raped, kids killed.

A gun, a couple of guns, mom and one or both kids having some familiarity with them could have prevented an atrocity.
and there again, it could have meant the death of all of them.

I don't own one. I thought about it seriously a couple of months back after I got robbed for the second time but given my temper, me having a gun would probably be a bad idea!!
At least you have the intelligence to recognise that. Gun + Anger = Real Problem

I would rep you for this, but I have just neg repped you on request. :dunno:

Personally I have never even held a handgun. I have shot .22 rifles at a range and shotgun for clay pigeon.

For those of you that have disagreed with my previous post, how about this. When I'm 40, I'll come back to this thread and let you know how my life has panned out without having owned a gun.

No matter how many stories you tell me of particular families or individuals getting robbed, raped, murdered, whatever, and they didn't have a gun to protect themselves, I will still stand by my opinion on the matter. We all have different ways of doing things, different opinions, different lifestyles, different perspectives. Think what you want, believe what you want, do things the way you want. Neither opinion is correct. We just have different ways of living.

I highly doubt I will ever need a gun. Ever. If I ever get raped or robbed or taken hostage, perhaps I will come back here and say, "Ok, maybe having a gun would have helped me." But I seriously highly doubt it will ever happen. Well, I have been raped before, but would a gun have mattered? Doesn't matter now. Sure, bad things have happened to me, but I still don't think that a gun would have been the answer.

That's the way I've always seen it. Having a gun is more likely to get you killed than get you out of a bad situation.

I have everyone's post on pros & cons and they are all valid. The one thing I will say if you are not sure about being a gun owner, don't own one. If you are interested join a club and you can rent one. You can also keep it at the range so now there is no issue of accidental shooting. After that, if you decide it's not for you, at least you know by personal experience. If you like it, welcome to the club. Also whatever side you are on in the firearm debate, there is no stat or story that will sway that person to your side.
