Gaya Patal... not really Indian?

My girlfriend and I were debating this back and forth over the past few days... after a few play by plays from her video, I think I've fully convinced her that I'm right - so I figured I'd register here and see what you guys think of my case.

My argument: Gaya Patal, who's ubiquitous in the world of web porn as an 'Indian porn star', isn't really Indian at all. If you watch video clips where she talks pretty extensively, she has a Central American accent. They dress her up in saris, glue-on 'jewels', etc. to the point that it's ridiculous because if they didn't, it'd be even more glaringly obvious that she's most likely Hispanic. Some sites (which have galleries of her in the freeones index) go another direction with it, and market her as Middle Eastern.

I don't particularly mind the dress-up fantasy of it all, but I think it's interesting as far as it relates to the laws of Supply and Demand in porn-land; Hispanic girls in porn are easy to find, Indian girls are not. Simply taken on her looks alone, Gaya Patal is middling, and she'd be just one more mediocre porn actress if she didn't find a 'niche'. Pretending to be Indian gives her that niche, and presumably makes her and whoever runs her website a good deal of cash.

I assume this is widespread in the industry -- Does anyone have any good, clear-cut examples to offer of people being marketed as an ethnicity that they're not? (Closest thing that pops to mind is that French-Vietnamese or Vietnamese-American porn stars are routinely given Japanese porn names, such as Katsumi and Tia Tanaka)

Well, she doesn't really *look* Indian at all, either. Which is why they always put her in saris and jewels and stuff like that. (By contrast, a model who's unambiguously indian, like Rakhee of Rakhee's World, doesn't need that crutch) And her accent is distinctly Hispanic. Most Indian-Americans don't have any accent at all, much less as Hispanic one.

i always thought those were funny.

i never heard of her but when i looked her up, she doesnt look indian at all. at least not india indian. the last name patal is like the smith over there so its a pretty easy name to pick.

Being an East Indian, I offer these points against her not being India:

1.) Not hairy enough
2.) We don't have the sexiest accent, it doesn't fit well in porn. She is a porn star, clearly a mismatch.
3.) Not hairy enough.

All that being said, I'm just fuckin around. She could or could not be. A lot of Indian schooled english speaking East Indians have an accent that can be seen in a number of ways. I wouldn't base my judgment solely on tat.

Well lets see the link. I am getting convinced, not cause of the accent, cause I don't think that is a factor. It's her look.

There is a lot of fake advertising of girls in porn. And if they the role it doesnt make a difference. She looks like an indian and that's all that really matters. Unless you have some really weird fetish this wouldnt really spoil anything.

Well where is colonelf40? He is usually the the expert on indians of maybe all kinds, casino and curry types. Now does is really matter? Its just like going to a site that promises only redheads and end up seeing a blonde getting lezzy with said redhead.

i'm of Indian heritage too. She doesn't seem Indian to me. There's a vid when she speaks and her accent definately sounds south american.

just a little note on this, I'm not entirely convinced of the argument that she's not Indian, but in terms of accent, she does live in montreal, Canada (as I found out on the Canadian show webdreams 3rd season) so she may even speak french, further messing with her accent.
