It's the godam prices that have me all twisted !
About a year and a half . . two years ago, I'd average about 4 bags of groceries for $50- !

Today I'm lucky if it's over two bags ! :dunno:
I sought some relief, as I wanted to have more disposable funds to spend on "fun stuff" / to place under the mattress (rainy day $$).
There's all sorts of ways to save !
1. Pull the grocery / drugstore ads out of your local Sat. paper and go out and buy what's on sale. If you're lucky, most all of
these stores are no greater than a couple miles apart.
If the specific item you want isn't on sale, buy a substitute or wait 'till next week, as most of the regular items that I purchase are, in fact, on sale approx one week a month.
When on sale, buy a month supply.
2. Shop at a Bakery Thrift Store ! Everything's always fresh at my local outlets. In the spirit of the thread, these are the places where you'll likely find all sorts of interesting goodies. Savings run about 50 - 55% cheaper at these Bakery Outlets, as compared to my giant monopoly chain superstores.
Many feature more than just bakery items to boot ! Milk, eggs, Orange Juice, condiments . . . check 'em out ! I regularly save about $2 - per dozen eggs when compared to the monopoly stores' outrageous price of $3.49 / doz.
3. Take a peek into your local "Big Lots" stores. While not terrific in the food & beverage areas, you'll find bargains on i.e. - 6 pack dial white bar soap B.L. - 1.59 ! monopoly grocer prices - $4.69 / 6. Dishwasher crystals - big f'en box B.L. - $1.99 monopoly chain - $5.69 !!
Now you have some extra cash to buy the specialized goodies as chef has mentioned.
