The trophy and what it stands for is not a joke, but over the years, the voters have lost sight of what it's supposed to be about. It is supposed to be awarded to the best player, not a decent player on a team that hasn't lost a game. I said it before, Paul Hornug won it in 1956 for Notre Dame and his team only won 2 games. Even so, he deserved that trophy. He played all sides of the ball, offense, defense, special teams, and he excelled at every one. The only problem was the rest of his team wasn't worth a shit. Keep this in mind and you realize only 1 player deserves that trophy. This year, and it pains me to say it, but that player is Johnny Manziel and no one else is even close.
Also, just because you're a Tide fan doesn't mean thast whoever Saban puts under center is a great player and you have to worship him like a messiah. I'm an Auburn fan and Nick Marshall is truly awesome as a running quarterback. Even better than Johnny Manziel. Yes. That's right. I said it. Better than Johnny Manziel. If you don't believe it, look at the rushing stats for both. Marshall has about 130 yards more on less attepmts. Does that mean I think he's the greatest quarterback in the country. No. Actually, my opinion is that Marshall needs to be sitting on the bench, or put into the running back rotation. Marshall is not a good passer and if Auburn has any chance of beating Bama, they're gonna have to mix in the pass. They may be able to run on Bama, but they're not gonna be able to do it all day long like they did against Tennessee. So, if Malzahn knows what's good for the team, Jeremy Johnson will see some playing time, and he will run that wildcat offense more than they have all year.
