The "anti-God squad"

The National Federation of Atheist, Humanist and Secular Student's has been formed in the UK as every religion has a group on campus in the universities except for the atheist's.

Chloe Clifford-Frith, 22, who has just graduated from Oxford University and will be dealing with the federation's public affairs, said: "We live in a world where religious governments execute adulterers and homosexuals, deny women and minority groups basic freedoms, and circulate fraudulent claims about contraception and scientific research.

As an Atheist myself it's good to see that now we actually have a voice to defend ourselves from the religions who try to ***** their beliefs upon us and together can actually say we believe in the science and facts not the faith and beliefs. And that people believe that the government should be neutral and not have strong belief in one religion to back it up.

Although i am an Atheist i do respect all other religions and have no problem with others who wish to believe in their own religion, neither is this thread supposed to be an ****** on any religion.

All i wan't to know is what are your views on Athiest's uniting and campaigning for a more neutral living condition for our multi-cultural societies?

Well, I don't know how religious the government in the UK is, but it seems alot different to me here. Last I checked the U.S. government wanted to get God out of public schools. Nor do they want God to be associated with the government. I heard somewhere a while back that they were going to take "In God We Trust" off the new currency. Does anyone know if they're still planning on doing that?

I have no problem with atheist.

Just because we have different views in life, that doesn't make you a bad person.

I just read the article and saw the buses that read "There's probably no God, now stop worrying and enjoy your life." I wonder when they'll come out with the buses that say "There might be a God, if so, you're probably screwed." lol.

The Previous Prime Minister Tony Blair was apparently very strongly religious but he didn't openly express it.

Don't know, but a majority of official oaths end with... "so help me GOD" doubt they will get rid of that, so why not leave it on currency.

Because ...

Because it wasn't added to currency until the Communist scare. I find it an insult to God. Then again, they put Jackson on the $20 bill, which is an insult to him as well. ;)

So, is this against all gods, or just the only one that matters?

That you would be. ;)

The Atheist bus campaign as it's called in the UK is a counter campaign of a Christian advert on buses that basically threatend non Christians with eternity in hell and all the other religious crap. The reason why probably is in the line "There's probably no God, now stop worrying and enjoy your life" is cause we can't prove there is no God at all and also it will cause less offense. Funny enough there have been about a hundred or so complaints from Christians about that bus slogan although the most likely possibility is that it's the fundamentalists are the ones complaining which considering that the more famous Christian fundamentalists groups here in the UK are Christian Voice and the Christian Institute. A couple of Christian groups have come up with counter campaigns but theirs were deemed offensive, one had something from the bible about calling nonbeleivers fools, one had one called "The is definetly a God, Join the Christian party and enjoy life". Now these ones received many complaints cause:
1. There is no proof that there is a God so they should have used "probably" in their line just like the Athiest one did cause after all we as atheists can't prove there is no God.
2. Calling non-believers fools is more likely to cause offense not just to Atheists and Humanists but also people of other relgiions too. These guys don't think at all do they? Most likely cause these groups are fundamental groups. :1orglaugh
3. It shows that they are getting desperate for new followers.

I think it's just the one that is in the more bigger religions but if I was going to be starting my own campaign I would use something like "God and/or Gods are probably myths" or something like that.

I think this is just as bad as having all of the religious groups screaming at you. First we have a bunch of groups who are going on and on about their particular religion and now we have a group going on and on about being Atheists. I've got an idea, why don't all of the groups no matter what they believe just shut the fuck up and let people live their lives.

This is some the most important work on the planet. Dismissing religious superstition help people to think rationally. If anyone has not noticed irrational, illogical thinking is accepted as normal by the herd.

I find people of that way of thinking to be intellectually dishonest about themselves. To apply probabilities to something it's inherent that you have some sort of evidence in the first place to account for why you think one circumstance is more likely to be true than the other. Considering there is no evidence, there is no way to make an accurate determination. It's even more ironic considering there are a lot of atheist or agnostics out there that like to claim the intellectual high ground. People somewhat expect that line of reasoning from some that are frantically religious.

I guess they know this because they have been to the other side...

They might be surprised if they did see the other side.

Bashing religion is as bad as hating someone just because of who they are.

Everybody interested in this thread should watch the "Go God Go", and "Go God Go Xll" episodes of South Park.

Even the Atheist broke off into different sects and fought each other.

This is pretty much the way I see it. In all honesty Atheism is the very thing they are "fighting against". A religion. Like other religions Atheists are trying to convert people to their way of thinking. Also like other religions they have absolutely no proof that their way of thinking is the right way of thinking. Like I said before all religions (and this includes Atheism) should just shut the fuck up and let people live their lives and believe what they want to believe.
