It's funny how people bound by the chains of physical, mental, and social limitations everyday feel somehow free rejecting the idea of God. Everyday life is a microcosm of everything they stand against.

When these people go to work, they have a boss, who has a boss, who has a boss, who answers to somebody whom you (the employee) has never seen. The only way you'll ever get to see this person is if you follow the company rules to the letter, move up in the company, and continually spread the word on the successes of the company you represent. This goes on for years, and maybe... just maybe... you could run your own business successfully so you can be at the top of the totem pole. Even at this lofty position, you still answer to even higher powers and their regulations. All the while, finding it okay to answer to almost everyone but God.

All of this, only to eventually lose it all in death. Where, by the way, there is a damn good chance you still will have to answer to somebody. Time wasted chained down by your own addictions and ego, all the time living the answer you run from. People living structured lives inside of a structured world with structured boundaries that totally refute the idea of an architect??? Yet someone sharing the level of enthusiasm for their religion as you do for much less is labeled a nut or fanatic.

Okay.

That logic is fucking retarted. You see the evidence when you get paid! You may have to answer to a God of another religion did ya ever think of that? And what architect creates a world full of dangerous weather, animals, and natural disasters? I see even a porn forum lacks knowledge of a title that's against an institution that looks down at this very site.

Atheism is no different than religion. They all gather to listen to someone go on about something they are against. Man's religion judge other people; atheists judge God and/or they judge the people of man's religion that they grew up around throughout life. They all come together under a idea that they are the right ones and are better suited.

Just two different sides of the same coin.

Er no. Many people who would class themselves as Atheists do not gather to listen to someone go on about something they are against. They don't gather at all, they just don't believe in god. :hatsoff:

what the fuck you lookin at?
all religion is bullshit. Hard to see how this sold out. They could have had a million tickets and sold out.

2,500 people? Oh wow. Quite a "global" movement there.

I'm sure atheists at this convention are going to discuss more than the mere non-existence of God

Yeah, like how to once and for all put an end to Christmas, to get deity off currency, and moreover, how to make the rest of the world as miserable as they are with their hollow, lifeless, worthless existence in this pathetic life. :)

I have attended a similar convention. We did not try prove that there isn't a god because that cannot be proven. The religious discussions basically showed the flaws and contradictions of all organized religions and how believers don't actually believe. Most discussions were about rational thought and the dangers of believing in anything without proof.

A world without *god* is unimaginable.

Who would watch a movie with Abe Via on the cast list?
Or a monster flick with Zilla?
Chinese villagers would build wacky paas.
Estragon and Vladimir would have to wait for Ot.
Iron Butterfly's biggest hit would be a distorted track called "In a da vida"

No. No. No. What a terrible thought! We need *god*

So to have a mass discussion about something that does not exist in their minds? Is that not the whole point not to have religion in their lives?

seems strange a bit!

I agree 100% without "god" there'd be no wars.

Clearly you're bound by the fear of what comes after death.

The worst kind of mental limitation there is.

A lecture theatre full of people listening to a speaker is not *quite* enough to qualify it as a religion.

Generally you speaking you need barbaric texts, bronze aged 'morality', a bunch of extraordinary, unsubstantiated claims about the origins of the universe and embrace of totalitarian rules that man should be governed by.

Atheism is about rational thought, free from the chains of religion. They get to talk about their personal ideas about politics,
...

seemingly always marxist / leninist ... free from chains eh ?

All told, I'm completely on the side of those who wish to peaceably assemble to worship a deity or not, it's just that when either of the two want to hold me up on a sidewalk or remind me of their particular belief structure, via message board postings, I get '':flame:''.

To each his or her own I Don't CARE !

No it's what I already explained in my previous comment. It's a group of people standing for rational free thought against oppressive religion. They share one idea, so that gives room for conversation. What would a churches convention be for, how about helping put a blind eye towards the evidence against their belief?

oppressive religion ? Who are the ones being oppressed ?

^^This.
I've no beliefs in any gods or higher beings that created everything and controls everything. And while it is quite cool to meet others with the same beliefs, I do not actively seek out nor assemble with those of like mind. These are my beliefs. They are very important to me. And I do not need the opinions of others to reaffirm my own.
Meanwhile, thanks for your concern, but I do not need to find a god nor turn my thoughts over the Jesus. I am quite pleased with my life, one with little conflict, one without its wars and hatreds, one without the fear of death, one without the fear of judgement. If you believe you need your god or allah or whatever you need to go from day to day, then that is your right as another human being.
However, I am quite all right with my own beliefs, thank you.
