I've gotten used to wearing a mask, I don't even notice it anymore.
Everyone looks better with a mask on, except for Trump he still looks like an asshole.
The only reason Trump doesn't wear a mask is because he feels self conscious and doesn't like how he looks in a mask.
Because of Trump's narcissism, the idiots who blindly follow him and don't wear masks have spread the coronavirus to countless millions of Americans and caused most of the deaths.

Did you see the cover of The Week magazine? This is the beginning of the next Civil War. It will be two-pronged: the young vs. the old, like in Logan's Run...and the liberals vs. the conservatives, with race being a prominent factor, like in Let That Be Your Last Battlefield from Star Trek TOS. It all started with the virus. It didn't need to be a virus that ***** everybody for a lot of people to die. It's when a society values life LESS than personal freedom or economy, that our times on this planet can begin to be counted down.

Odds are there won't be an effective vaccine for years, maybe decades.
If there is, and because viruses mutate, a new vaccine will have to be made every year, just like the flu vaccine.

My friend got infected again with covid-19 about 4 months after his first infection.
He got better in about 2 weeks this time, the first time took 6 weeks. He's not sure if it's because the second time he knew what to do or his immune system got rid of the virus faster, or maybe it was a combination of both.
Both times it started with a sore throat then his lungs were burning and chest was tight, but the second time his kidneys hurt a bit.
The first time, because he didn't know what to do, it was a week before he started deep breathing exercises every 30~60 minutes and using a cold/flu medicine with expectorant every 4~6 hours..
It's been about a month since he got better, but like the first time he still has ***** lingering pains.
So it's possible that anyone can get reinfected about every 3+ months when the antibodies are decreasing, for years to come, until an effective vaccine is made.
Daily deep breathing exercises may also help prevent an infection taking hold in the lungs.
Breathe in thru the nose, hold for 10 seconds, then out thru mouth. Do this 5 times every hour.
I guess anything that makes you breathe heavily is good.

I think there are a number of basic steps that have to taken starting asap.
Boost the Federal Institues for Handling Pandemics. Stock up their staff numbers, at least double them. Quadruple their funding.
Push labs to be better able to develop vaccines, and not only when the world is on fire.
Build up gigantic stocks of medical requirements and the machines.
Prevent federal states having to push prices by having to keep offering more money than other states. That is money burnt with zero use.
Build up hospital, build up hospital personnel
Make vaccination mandatory.

I would add to that list almost totally socializing medicine, but those seem like good ideas. Unfortunately, they all require people agreeing to inconvenience themselves or sacrifice for the common good of all. They require incentivizing the health and well being of their fellow man over maximizing profits. They require admitting that in the modern world there are some problems so extensive, systemic, and interconnected in a country or even the wrold as a whole that only socialism has any hope of fairly and ethically solving them.
I don't see it happening that easily where I'm at, and if it does it will be a long and drawn out with too many people and corporations kicking and screaming to their dying breath trying to resist it as they try to disguise their own selfishness and callousness as a perverted form of "freedom".

I agree with you in theory, but in practice your plan would be difficult to implement and the approach has some limits. Most importantly: We do not know what the next pandemic will look like, but we would be well prepared for the last pandemic.
Will the next pandemic be bacterial, viral, or fungal? Will it be spread through contact, air, bodily fluids, food, etc.? The type of pandemic would determine what supplies are needed. Having an excess of ebola supplies would not have helped us battle coronavirus. It may have a little, but not to the extent needed to have a meaningful impact.
The same constraints apply to the vaccine. It would be difficult to proactively create one. Unfortunately, the world being on fire is necessary.
Labs have the financial incentive to develop vaccines. Imagine the profit going to the lab creating and manufacturing the first coronavirus vaccine. I'm not sure making the first round of vaccines mandatory is a great idea. It will take time to see what the long-term effects of any vaccine. What are the unintended and unforeseen consequences? I would get one in short order, but I would not want to be first in line.
The most valuable contribution to the coronavirus response would have been a coordinated effort by the politicians and the scientists; between the federal, state, and local governments and responsible agencies; and the populaces. The infighting distracted us from the real problem.
PS - China being a little more cooperative and transparent at the start would have been helpful.

Any other time before 2016 a pandemic would have united the world, but ahole Trump is using the pandemic to divide Americans for the sole purpose of getting reelected. Trump doesn't care how many people die, he only cares about himself.
China could have prevented the pandemic, but as always greed is the deciding factor.

This was the dumbest mistake he made during his presidency (and there were LOTS). Dubya was a lost cause upon election, but he was able to use 9-11 to get the entire country behind him and rode his way into 2 terms. twump's base would have stuck with him even if he appealed to the entire country, so he would have had little to lose. And with it being an election year, this could have been the issue that put in back in office.
When somebody is such a dumbfuck and his existence on this Earth is such detriment to good people and rational thinking everywhere that he's loathed even more than before despite what should be a "Rally Around the Flag Effect" helping him you know that person is a piece of trash.
You know what's really bad is that Trump isn't even a good con man. We're not taking about some evil charismatic super genius here. He's not even an average one. In another life where ***** didn't tax fraud him hundreds of millions of dollars he would have been at home being the crappy and blatantly shady used car salesman that everybody would laugh at and ridicule, and rightfully so. In some ways that puts his supporters as a group of people in a category that's even dumber than Trump is and as equally loathsome, because if somehow that shady used car salesman fooled people dumber than he was every once in a blue moon no sane person would suddenly jump up and say, "Look at how smart he is now." No, they would point and laugh at the people that were so amazingly dumb they somehow got fooled by even him.
It's just too bad the world doesn't operate in a fair or rational way. I don't know what the future is going to hold. I don't know what's going to happen after the election. If the world operated in a rational compassionate manner I could be confident he would lose, but it doesn't. I quite frankly lost my faith in humanity a long time ago, way before Trump came around. It's just even much worse now. I always knew things in my our country were really bad under the surface, but I never thought so many people would totally abandon both sound logical scientific thinking and compassion and caring needed to be decent people at the same time in so quick a fashion. All it took for so many to follow somebody like that was to be lead by uncountable blatantly obvious and easily verifiable lies and for that person to **** the same people they did.
Trump might not be the most evil person ever. Not like let say Hitler or Stalin (then again that might only be due to him not thinking he can get way with things to the level they did, not that he wouldn't want to do it), but he might be by far the dumbest person in anything close to modern history that has been in as relatively powerful of a position as he has. One would have to go back to the most foolish and decadent Roman or Chinese emperors to get to a relative level of destructive power they could inflict by their own stupidity and mental defects.
And...this is on us as a country. Not only were we never glorious or had any real American Exceptionalism, but when we were put to the test and had the sheets over our face ripped off this turned out the be the real us in so many ways. We were found wanting. If in the future we and others look back and shame us over this we will have deserved it as a people.
