Virus protecction

i forgot this... If your paranoid like me you can also get an anti-trojan program.. only one that is free is a2. It also helps to have a good firewall like; zonealarm, sygate, kerio, or outpost... etc.

Anti-trojan Programs:
Trojanhunter 3.8 (one I use resident/on-demand)
TDS-3 (resident/on-demand)
BoClean (resident scanner only)
a2 (on demand only)

here is another good place to look for software (freeware and shareware stuff).

Install and run Norton SystemWorks and have it "auto-update" and run stuff FOR YOU in the background..you'll probably never have a virus again. Make sure you set it up to protect your e-mail program(s) as well. It's not hard to do. Just keep your virus definitions fresh, DAILY, and you'll probably never have to worry, unless you're one of those people who opens every mail attachment they get. LOL

Natural Selection of PC users...LOL What a concept...

P.S. Download and run Ad-Aware. It will tell you if you have junk and spyware shit on your PC. And for God's sake's DO NOT run "GATOR" or other shit like "WEATHER BUG." Those are LOADED with cookie monsters and adware....

I've had a virus that turns of my McAfee virus protection. I had to uninstal and reinstal it - runs fine now. I have that with a firewall and anti-spyware. I still notice a ton of shit that slips in.

The worst is the ISEARCH tool bar that got instaled on my computer. I looked into removing it but they want $30 for the uninstall software AND it has spyware built in.... what the fuck! 1 week I will save my important files on CDR and erase my entire hard drive.

I downloaded "spyhunter" and it scaned my HD and found "119" spyware files,,, but after deleting my cookies I only had 3. When I said DELET them they gave me an ad to buy the software... now I cant delet the original "spyhunter" software and I opted to pay for the McAfee program.... ugggghhh

SNEAKY BASTARDS!!!

I'm learning - thanks for the help

I use MaCafee from the university and a spyware defense called spybot from download.com works well for me! Good luck!:hatsoff:

i use norton and for spyware, ad-aware.

it's really nothing more than one big-ass arms race.
although i've grown up with, and spent most my life on windows based computers, i'd say get a mac.

why? cuz to the hackers and shitbags who write spy/adware, it just isn't worth it to write programs for only 4% of all computer users.

Actually ActiveX is a major cause of viruses and spyware installations on Windows, not the fact that it has 90% of the market.

Get a Mac. It's great for porn! (Although PC's are too... haha porn is great all around... except if you run Linux... jk).

Linux is great for porn. The major browsers are all tabbed and popup-blocked. No virus threat. One media player for all formats (mplayer handles WMV, Quicktime, Real, and all the older stuff.) And wget absolutely rules for sucking down webpages from the command line. I've been porn-surfing with Linux for ten years and it's been great.

According to the teachers at my certification school, the best three spy/virus software is Adaware, Spybot, and Avast. Put those three on and you should be safe from just about anything.

AVG 7.0 Pro is all I've ever used.....haven't been infected yet!
Sygate Personal Firewall 7.0 Pro
Spyblaster, Spysweep and Spyware S+D.

 These have already been mentioned before in this thread, but here's the direct links to some of the software already mentioned. If you're new at browsing (or an old hand without them), make sure you're protected:

Zone Alarm (Free or Pro firewall)

I use the Pro version (paid), but the free version's much the same without a privacy guard. The site also offers a free online spyware scan - very useful.

AVG (Free or Pro Anti Virus)

If you're after the free version, look down the left hand column.

Spybot - Search And Destroy

Scan your computer for infection, 'immunize' Internet Explorer and more.

Panda Online Antivirus Scan

Useful if your own Antivirus software's been hit

Pest Patrol Online or Purchase

Does offer a free online scan (top right)

Only other tip is to keep your operating system up to date. I run XP, patched to Service Pack 2, and this includes a pop up blocker and active x protection. A lot of hacks are only based on old security flaws, so update now and stop them getting through.

Norton Internet Security, Norton System Works, Spybot, Spyware Guard, Spyware Blaster and Ad Aware are my recommendations.
