The "Where are you from?" Thread

Re: The "Where are you from?" Thread

I assume you were going for "weisst du ihn," since wissen only becomes wisst in the plural, and in connection to knowing a fact, not a person. E.g. "Wisst ihr wo ich wohne?" - do you (plural) know where I live?

To answer your question, I've never been to Vienna, nor have I met any of Sacha Baron Cohen's fictional characters. I assume that's the Bruno to which you refer.....

:sweep:

LOL, great acter and great movie.

arab money goes to city, american goes to united, russian to chelsea, so only arsenal remains english, that's why i like it.

Fair enough.

I support City as I was brought up that way, it's in my blood. Also live and grew up in Manchester.

I totally admire your knowledge of the German language, my BRITISH friend. :) But it's "kennst du ihn?" ;) Oh and when you use the word weisst in a sentence then we have this funny little letter that looks like this ß that we use in this case. So it's spelled weißt.

Everything else you said was right.

There is only one team in Manchester. And they're wearing red jerseys!

Incorrect. Manchester United don't even play in Manchester, Old Trafford is in Stretford which is in the Trafford Borough of Greater Manchester.

Manchester City are the real Manchester club. Majority of mancunians support City.

I'm very cross that I forgot kennen. Probably because I was livid at not being addressed as "Sie."

I know what a scharfes S is, Leberknödel. I just couldn't be bothered going through the character map or Googling it every time I want to say Straße or fließen.

Both grounds are equidistant from Manchester Town Hall i.e. the centre of Manchester. And they were founded (2 years before City) in Newton Heath. It doesn't really make a lot of difference though, does it? Villa Park is in Witton, not Aston, for example. Nobody cares. Tiresome argument that nobody outside of fans of the two clubs gives a shit about.

Having lived in Manchester for 6 years, I can confirm that this is utter bollocks. I met and befriended far more Reds than City fans, the City fans being mostly from shitholes like Beswick and Ardwick.

Leberknödel? Really? :1orglaugh

Almost nobody uses the term scharfes s anymore. That thing is called Eszett. ;)

So, how come you speak ze German so well? :)

Did it for meinen Abi, school trip to Remagen, just never really got out of the habit. Shouting at my subordinates was more fun in German than English. Plus I used to look after the finances of a certain German footballer once of Man United, now of Hannover, so I got to practice on him. His English was better than my German, obviously.

The team lovingly refer now to my time in charge as "The (Stiffy) Regime." Although my tough line when it came to vocal abuse was offset by my inspirational totem on the desk at all times... the Green Power Ranger.

p.s. "The Peoples Republic Of Mancunia" is a wonderful phrase.

Why is that then?
Well if ManU aren't in Manchester....

They are a vile football club. Cannot stand them and the majority of their fans. Most arrogant fans in the wrold, they think they have a god given right to win everything.
I'm not a real ManU fan, I hated them for years for that lucky, undeserved win against Bayern in '99. (Yes, I'm a Bayern fan) But even I like them more than City.

How come?
It's a cool word. I love cool and funny sounding words. Like gibberish or shenanigans. :D
