What a great driver Vettel is.

Seriously. Kimi pulling thrugh inside, creating a block there, the corner coming closer, Vettel thought he could pull ahead and prevent Verstappen from going first by moving into him? Did he so much misjudge or believe Max and Kimi would let him go and pull back?

We'll probably never know, but Vettel is just way too arrogant, it appears.

He obviously did not realise that Kimi had got such a great start so assumed that Max would give way. I would love to heap all the blame on Seb but it was a racing incident. He probably shouldn't have pull over quite so aggressively and he got his just desserts in the end. It's Alonso I really feel for this time as it looked like he could actually have had a good race this time out.

I agree, people are too quick to jump on Vettel for driving dangerously when just about every driver who's sat on pole has moved over on the guy who qualified 2nd in recent years. I firmly believe that he thought he could squeeze Verstappen all the way to the edge of the left side of the track but had no idea that his teammate was there. This could easily have happened at another race to different drivers it was just unfortunate for Ferrari that it occurred now.

Definitely a massive blow to McLaren that Alonso got collected, 4th was a very realistic result if he had gotten through unscathed. Not bad for a GP2 engine.

I agree with your assessment, dpantski. I don't think that Vettel knew that Kimi had made such a blinder of a start and was outside of Max. But still, that was a pretty aggressive move across, especially since he knew who it was that was beside/behind him. But I'd still call it a racing incident, although I'd give Vettel the most contribution to the incident.

On another board that I'm on, I don't know when I've seen the word "karma" used so much. And I can't disagree with that either. Vettel has led something of a charmed life, avoiding FIA penalties for his actions and words over the past couple of seasons. Seems like Karma caught him and slapped him hard to even the score in this race... and probably the championship.

Hamilton said he needed a miracle on Sunday, and that's exactly what he got.

I thought Ferrari/Vettel was nailed on for the win this weekend and that still may well have been the case if it wasn't for what happened at the start.

Based on how things had been going in practice though, I expected Ricciardo to be on pole and go on to take the win.

Another retirement for Verstappen - just not happening for him his season. He's someone with the potential to have mounted a challenge given his abilities in wet conditions, so we were robbed of seeing that at turn 1.

His engine would probably have expired with 1/2 laps to go so it probably saved an even greater degree of heartache!

Sums up my own opinion perfectly

I didn't see Vettel's apology about Baku as being sincere. If I was him, I'd pen a letter to Karma, apologize most sincerely and sign it in blood. Otherwise...:cthulhu:

And how did the Mercedes boys find that much speed?! Looking at Bottas' time, I know a major part was Hamilton's right foot. But still, he was no where earlier in the weekend.

Formula1 Youtube has shared the full race at Malaysia , I think this is a first. Sadly or gladly, this is - at least for some time - the last one. It has been a nice race, all in all

Oh, Seb! Great race getting through all that traffic to get to fourth, only to screw it up on the cool down lap.

He might be creating a new nickname that way, if he keeps getting into crazy crashes ^^

I don't guess we'll know whether or not Seb damaged his gearbox until the Japanese weekend starts?

Looks like Vettel came out okay, after all. Practice and Qualifying in Suzuka was highly entertaining, if you are into slippin' and a-slidin' - and Hamilton came out very much on top, setting a new track record.

Here is the starting grid:

Hamilton and Vettel in row 1, with both Red Bulls in row 2? Next, in row 3, there is Ocon and Bottas.

I predict some nice racing, and some work for the stewards to decide on nasty situations, again
