The Dark Knight broke the all-time opening

is it really that good of a movie?
not just a review of heaths performance?

Yes,it really is,although i do think that Aaron Eckhart's performance is being a tad bit overlooked.

^^Yup. He really was a complex, interesting character. The coin imagery nailed him for me. My only quibble is with his character was actually not with his character but with Maggie Gylenhall. She and Eckhart just had ZERO *HEAT* between each other...they didn't look or convince me that they were deeply in love. I don't blame her, she just didn't measure up to the role.

I have no problem discussing future movies and cast choices. Shit. I started doing that in my first post here after seeing the film. I was already primed like a Pavlovian dog to see another film....

The Dark Knight finally met its match on Wednesday with the stronger-than-expected debut of the stoner comedy Pineapple Express which grossed $12.1M in its opening day more than doubling the $5.1M tally for the superhero sequel which was in its 20th day in multiplexes. Starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, Sony's Pineapple claimed the biggest Wednesday bow ever in August, although the final month of summer is not known for major films launching midweek. The R-rated action-comedy now stands an excellent chance of winning the weekend race and preventing The Dark Knight from fourpeating thanks to young men looking for a funny new film to shift their attention to.
The Batman film's tally on Wednesday saw a 42% drop from the same day a week earlier and pushed the cume to an eye-popping $410.8M. It remains at number seven on the all-time blockbusters list and looks set to sail past the $423.3M of 2006's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest on Friday. Knight had been number one every previous day since its record-breaking launch except for last Friday when The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was king for a day.

Take a Hit, Spunker!
See it a second time and it will all come together.

Second time hell!!! I got it all on the first viewing. Speaking of, I'm going to watch it again in a few minutes here.

People complain that Robin is too outlandish to be in the next movie, yet people still talk constantly about the Riddler and Catwoman. I'll never understand it.

DEfinitely one of the best movies I have seen. Ironman was good in a simplistic super hero movie kind of way. Dark Knight was great for portraying an unconventional dark humanistic batman. Superb movie

Moviegoers once again drove The Dark Knight to the top spot as Warner Bros. grossed an estimated $26M in its fourth weekend to boost the 24-day total to an unbelievable $441.5M. The Caped Crusader continued to reach new milestones. Down only 39%, the superhero sequel shot up to number three on the list of all-time domestic blockbusters and sits behind only Titanic which grossed $600.8M during one theatrical run across 1997 and 1998, and Star Wars which took in $461M from multiple releases over different decades.

Of course, ticket prices were much lower during those years and Knight is not likely to match those films in admissions. The new Joker film has sold roughly 62 million stubs which puts it on the same level as 2003's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King which grossed $377M and sits at number ten on the all-time list. Coincidentally, the final Frodo pic was the last movie to spend four straight weekends at number one. Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ hit the top spot over four non-consecutive frames in 2004 including its first three sessions as well as its seventh outing which was the Easter holiday weekend. In today's crowded marketplace, especially in the summer when even megahits like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Transformers, and The Bourne Ultimatum only spend one week at the top, The Dark Knight's feat is truly incredible.

The new Batman movie also smashed the $700M barrier in worldwide grosses this weekend. Overseas audiences in 56 markets spent an estimated $35.1M allowing the international total to soar to $263.1M while the global tally climbed to a jaw-dropping $704.6M. Opening against the start of the Beijing Olympics, Knight saw stunning first-place numbers in Korea with $6.9M in five days which already puts it ahead of the lifetime gross of Batman Begins. The turnout was not as bright in Japan where it bowed in second place to $3M beating the opening of Begins by only 11%. The Dark Knight now looks set to reach the neighborhood of $520M from North America and more than $900M worldwide.

I wouldn't say that Robin is too outlandish,I just can't envision him in this version of Batman without seeming like there's too much going on in the story,or being too much like Batman Forever.Besides,it's still way too early to even think about bringing Robin in.Bruce is still in the infant stages of actually being Batman and learning what in truly takes to don the cape and cowl. And on top of all that,Robin's kind of a lame character anyway, but that's just my opinion.

Riddler could be done good if they make him really smart and methodically twisted. If you think that the jumpsuit singlet wearing Riddler is stupid for this franchise, well of course he is,but if you think that's the way that Nolan and Goyer would do him, well think again.

As far as Catwoman goes,I personally don't see what purpose she would serve in the next movie other that eye candy. All of the fanboys want to see her but don't take into account that her introduction doesn't flow with what the writers have already established as far as the story of Batman and Gotham City are concerned. Now Black Mask, that makes total sense. And a big thumbs down to Bane as well.

Next movie, either Black Mask,Riddler, the return of Two-Face,or Talia, gets my vote. These are really the only characters that I feel can keep the story flowing well and not seem like they are just arbitrary characters introduced just for the fanboys.:2 cents:

I dont think they will bring robin back. Nolan is alot smarter than that.

I would like to see Bain or a really good Riddler. Maybe even a Hush storyline.

Yes, Bane. That would be great. A villian who is only a threat because he has a unrealistic drug that gives him superhuman strength. I can never see Nolan doing that. If he tried, and simply changed it to steroids, Batman would still be able to take him down. Don't matter if he's super-smart or not.

they could introduce Venom (the drug that Bain uses) into the story. I don't see that as any more far fetched than Scarecrow's poppy seed fear-inducing powder being dumped into the water supply because ninjas want to destroy the world.

I don't know why people seem to confuse realistic with lame. nothing about batman is realistic, it's a guy that dresses up like a bat and fights a clown. come on. it doesn't have to be realistic, but it can still be done good if it keeps the same tone and story formula of the other movies.

it wasn't a lack of realism that made the late 90's batman movies suck, it was bad writing, casting and sets.

They could, but it would seem pointless and arbitrary.

The League Of Shadows weren't hell bent on global destruction for no reason.

For all intents and purposes, they were terrorist, but with the ideal of restoring balance to society. So even though it was misguided, they did have a purpose, and as Ducard said,it's the way that it's been done for hundreds of years.
