The 2011 MLB Thread

Hey Philly. Not 1 run?

Any other Jay fans feel that pit in their stomach? That pit of rage. That pit of what could have been. Fuccccccccccccccccccccccccccccck.

Who is ESPN going to root for now that their two favorite teams are gone? :D

They will just forget about baseball and talk about the Steelers, Jets, etc..........but no team west of the Mississippi.

2 of the best games I've seen this year.......

My Dbacks lost but I sure had fun at the 2 games in Phoenix against the Brewers.

I hope Ryan Howard is OK

I'm looking for the Cardinals and Tigers in the World Series

Cards are in trouble now, they are really going to miss their ace.
But I figured their season was over before it started, so to just be playing and making more money is a plus.

Sadly i Think Ryan Howard Tore his Achilles, that means 1 year missed.
With the other free agent questions i think Philly takes a step back next year.

Cards win,Cards win!!!!!!!

Yeah baby! What a classic game. Hats off to the Phils. They played their asses off but last night Carp was unhittable. Go Redbirds!

What in the world are you talking about? "Miss their ace"??? In what way are they "missing their ace"? :dunno:

If we can take out the Phillies I don't think we're too intimidated about anyone else at this point. No one thought we'd even be here so the pressure is all on Milwaukee. Great series win by the Brewers so congrats to them....should be a helluva series.

Chill, I'm a cards fan but in a 7 game series its nice to have an ace pitch twice. Carp doesn't pitch till wed. and it depends which bullpen guys show up. The Brewers are a better hitting team at home than the Phils and they are on a big high now.

Carp will pitch twice. He'll go in game 3 and game 7 if it goes that far (and who else would you want in a game 7?). The way the Cardinals are playing right now, you have to be confident against anyone, Brewers or anyone. You honestly think the Brewers lineup is scarier than Philly? I know they had out number this year but all bets are off in the postseason. No disrespect meant to Milwaukee but they are not better than the Phillies....especially on the mound. We'll be fine.

The offense of the Phillies wasn't the only hurdle that the Cards had to leap, it's the Phillies pitching staff that was the real boulder in that series. The Brewers are a very good team with good pitching, but if the Cards made it through Halladay and Lee they sure as heck can play well against Gallardo and Greinke. The Cards are playing great baseball at the right time and that's what really matters.

Rangers and Tigers deadlocked in the 10th. Great game. I'll be flipping back and forth now that the Cardinals-Brewers game is coming on. Really great action in the post-season so far....too bad MLB allows football to intrude on what should be its glory time. I'll bet more people will be watching the Lions-Bears game than the MLB playoffs. That's a shame.

Baseball needs to find a way to win back a generation of potential fans who just don't care. In the meantime....hopefully the Redbirds bounce back tonight and gain a split heading back to St. Louis.

Jagger you may disagree but I really think setting a cap in baseball would be great for the game. I know its been discussed until everyone was blue in the face but the lack of classic great franchises competing such as the Orioles and Royals has really hurt baseball. Sure you can produce a good small market team into a winner through the **** system but due to the ridiculous salaries that the players are getting those small market teams can't hold onto them and they go elsewhere. Being a Cards fan I'm glad I've never had that issue but I've always had that concern just as a baseball fan. The game deserves better ratings then its been getting and I think parity among all the teams would help big time, just like the NFL! MLB just isn't fair and thats why a lot of fans walked away from it.Just my opinion!

I think some of the disinterest in baseball right now is still due to the strike that cancelled the World Series. There are still a ton of fans who have not come back to the game from that, the imbalance between have's and have-nots is a contributing factor, but it doesnt hurt when small market teams that fans actually care about (sorry Tampa Bay Rays, you dont count) succeed in the imbalanced structure. Salary cap id be okay with if its an NBA cap, i dont want to see the Yankees or the Red Sox cutting half their team, but the money they pay for the luxury tax would help the leagues competitive balance.

I do not disagree at all. Having the Yankees and Red Sox being in it every year is fine as long as other small-market teams are competitive. Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Seattle, Baltimore....these teams have no shot and this must change if the sport is to survive and thrive IMO.

Also, Bud Selig is an idiot. He has maintained the status quo through the steroid era into the present with a set of blinders on. Bottom line is....baseball is a fantastic sport....my favorite when it comes right down to it. However, MLB has remained oblivious to the changes that have taken place in the past 2 decades which have reduced it to a little ******* to the NFL. The lack of foresight from a marketing standpoint have placed in a very bad position and I don't see it improving anytime soon. What a shame....baseball is America as much as anything is and to see it fade into the shadows is bothersome to me. I fucking LOVE baseball.....America's game.

Go Redbirds!!!!!!!!!!!!!
